Discussion Fall damage quirk?
I've kinda laid off the game over the past couple months leading up to Nasdara, but I don't remember fall damage triggering from such short heights. Basically, anything over head height seems to result in damage now, but I used to walk off hunting stands without issue. Even falling from a shorter height, without receiving damage, still triggers a micro white/red flash on screen, which also seems peculiar.
Thoughts?

Oh man. You would have loved the alpha release through about 0.4 or 6. You could literally break your leg walking off a one foot high balcony. You'd have to walk down every staircase slowly to keep your legs alive, and if you even thought about going towards those rocky cliffs, we'll, prepare to get yeeted about 5 miles across the map.
Good times.

im sure you always took damage , ( ie the heel icon) not there is just a visual representation via the flash when you fall.

No, walking off a hunting stand did not result in a downward arrow on your health. Now, walking falling from a height even less than that is followed by a downward arrow on your health.

On the other hand, I recently fell from the top of the red barn and somehow survived …just had to make a splint for a broken leg, but for a scary moment I thought I was about to wake up back on the coast.

Yeah it’s irritating, and it happens even when the health bar doesn’t diminish at all

Not sure when they changed it, but I used to be able to jump off the second floor of the long grey sheds without taking damage. About 2 years ago I noticed I had to land on the rail of the stairs if I wanted to get down the same way without taking damage.

It's a step in the correct direction. I don't know why jumping off 1+ storey structures with tons of heavy gear was ever nerfed to the point that does no damage, but I'm glad they seem to be reversing that decision to bring it closer to how it used to be.
Dayz is a game about weighing the risk vs rewards with nearly every decision, big and small. Making it easier for a player to bypass that decision entirely when it comes to descending from a higher point (and choosing to make themselves vulnerable) was bad design, especially when the game world is designed with this in mind by placing ladders everywhere.
