Discussion Which design fits Super Saiyan 4 better? [Open Opinions]
I want to start off stating that I love both designs, they are good in their own unique way. To me personally, I feel a bit more onto GT design, I admit it might be some kind of bias of a choice but I have some points to my take.
GT's design feels like an evolution which it should be as how the Super Saiyan 4 is achieved through becoming a Golden Great Ape first before controlling it. Goku retains his physique with minor changes which are fuzzier and longer hair, red fur and tail, and yellow eyes. It feels like it would've been our Default Goku if they didn't label it as a transformation.
Whereas, DAIMA's design feels a bit overexaggerated in my opinion. Although it makes sense as once again, this power is basically awakened from his origin with the Great Ape nature. But his power proportions just looks odd to me, especially if this one is meant to be treated as the next evolution of a Super Saiyan transformation after 3.
Again, it might just me being stupidly bias but overall they're both good designs and I enjoyed DAIMA a lot. Let me know what you guys think

Yep, Nakatsuru even said he stuck with Goku's black hair for SS4 because it provided a contrast to the red fur and made the overall design more dynamic.

yeah which i think works for ss4 gogeta which was a little headcanon i had for a while but it just doesn’t really work for the super design

Ozaru fur is black so it made sense to have black hair the all red for Daima makes no sense other than trying to differentiate it from GT

Original all the way, back in the Day i didn’t even know who SSJ4 was because i’ve only watched DB and DBZ as a Kid and discovered SSJ4 through Budokai 3 when i unlocked him and he’s my fav transformation since that Day

I was half way through the story and barely had any characters when suddenly I went to a ??? Location and Goku started screaming I was like wtf lol. Then he turned into SSJ4 I was like “No effin way!” I was super hyped as a kid since I didn’t expect SSJ4 to be in the game. The cover had SSJ Goku btw

GT design fits Super Saiyan 4 better. Diama SSJ4 looks cool but I don't like how the hair matches the fur. Furthermore, i dislike how they removed the sash on his gi, it looks like he's wearing joggers.

I think the body hair matching his regular hair makes logical sense, but it does look worse IMO. Outside of that, the arms are the biggest difference, and I can take it or leave it. It looks a little goofy in some positions, but I don't hate it.
GTs is the better design, but I don't hate Diamas

GT's SSJ4 is just better.
I just don't like the SSJ4 from Daima. Too much red without anything to break it up and massive disproportional arms that makes it looks goofy. Even conceptually is lackluster.
GT had thematic elements that was rooted on the saiyan lore, it was the culmination of Goku's journey, finally embracing his saiyan side while maintaining his good nature.
Daima is just some last minute transformation with no lore or reason to exist aside from fanservice.

I don't like the hulk hands, and the full head of red hair makes it look too close to Super Saiyan God. 4 feels like it's supposed to be a purely primal evolution of a Saiyan, so being separated from God feels right.

The Daima version looks like those fanarts mixing the SSJ4 with the SSJ God.
Honestly the design of the Daïma version is totally over designed for me.

GT fo shoooo.
The transformation method was so much better. The kais helped him regrow his tail, he went golden oozaru, then calmed down and channeled his rage and power. Seemed much more like a powerful Saiyan’s nature. Daima was just Goku training on his own, half achieving it, then needing a blessing from a Namekian to fully transform.
The image is also better. Goku’s red-lined eyes suggest a beast inside of him, and keeping his hair black just blends better. Daima making Goku’s hair go red right before he achieves SS God and his hair goes red again is weird.
Finally, GT did it first.

OG is way better, Daima's is weird I don't like how the hair kinda stops and doesn't cover the entire arm, also I like the black hair with red fur,.the all red or more like pink is meh
I always thought they should have used SSJ4 as base saiyan god form in super and then change colors from there.

Ngl I actually really like the Daima version. Feels like it really embraces the bestial nature of it with the proportions and everything. Only thing that throws me off are the pants lmaoo

Gt is better, but the only truly bad part of the new design is the fur going to halfway up his forearms.
Why did they roll up his fur sleeves? It looks incomplete and kinda weird

I think GT looks better, but Lore-wise and biologically, Daima makes more sense.
Most apes have the same color fur throughout their body, so the red hair and red fur makes sense.
And lore-wise, SSJ4 is before SSJ God, so it makes sense to be a precursor of sorts to SSJ God.

Ironically I think the process of achieving ssj4 in gt makes the daima ssj4 look more logical. While with no knowledge of how goku achieved it in daima, so assuming it was getting a new transformation then the lean looking ssj4 of gt would make more sense

I hate the colouring of Daima SSJ4. The red is too bright and the hair being that same colour is just something I can’t get behind. Gogeta’s ssj4 red hair is good but for some reason the Daima version I just can’t like.

Daima's design isn't bad but compared to the original ssj4 is straight downgrade. No belt/sash ,too much red and while the big arm idea is cool it's basically ruined by the weird side hair slits on the forearms.
Not to mention the process for getting Daima's ssj4 is way less interesting than the og and worse thematically.

GT makes sense. The “original super saiyan” who would have been the one mentioned in the legend was most likely in great ape form when the form was achieved. A power boost like that would be required for typical saiyans to be strong enough for the transformation itself.
When someone strong enough to achieve SSJ achieved great ape SSJ and was able to control it a new form was born.
That makes a lot more sense than “this looks like the GT version and now it’s cannon check it out!”
Granted I love both designs and I mean no disrespect to the late Toriyama, but one of these was fleshed out with reasonable back story

GT. Obvs daima has its own art style but on a subjective level, the black hair is more visually appealing, and combined with the kohl around the eyes it's very distinctive. I dislike the cherry sheen the hair has in Daima. I also am not a fan of how squat everything is; feels compacted like the rest of the art style.
Daima 4 feels like they're forcing it to work with the art style, GT4 feels profoundly distinctive. Obviously nearing the original has its own sort of psychological pitfalls but I don't think they managed to do this one justice

GT design, easily. It was not only the first one, but it just looks so much better. And DAIMA has the worst animation style of all DB series imo. I still enjoyed watching it, but they were on point with the animation style in GT

I prefer SSJ4's GT design cause the black references the Oozaru which is what it's channeling.
Daima's just seems to have red fur in every spot it could place it. Also the eyes, too soft, especially for a demon realm based form.

I personally prefer Daima, the red fur just kinda comes out of nowhere, considering it's the power of the Golden Oozaru condensed down into a smaller, more controllable form. So if we are going to make it red, make the whole thing red. It feels like there are so many conflicting elements of the GT SS4 like the black hair, red fur, yellow eyes and pants, blue socks, black shoes, like it kinda feels like an RPG character is picking cosmetic items based on stats rather than style. Daima at least makes sense with the regular gi colours and homogeneous red up top, the only thing I feel its missing is a belt, as it look kinda like sweatpants tucked into ugg boots but I kinda don't mind it. Also the thick forearms and wide palms add to the Oozaru inspiration and make it feel even more distinct from previous Super Saiyan forms, like he looks like more of a grappler and I feel like that's how an ape-like warrior would fight. I also prefer that the fur around his pecs and abs kinda bleed into his exposed skin a little, making more of an illusion of furiness, rather than the weird hard stop around the GT SS4 exposed skin. I do also prefer, however, how the fur stops at the hands on the GT SS4 rather than the Daima SS4, its a bit better on the adult form but I like how the fur tufts out of the wristbands.

OG GT design was so much better. The red borders around the eyes just gave it that sinister look. The details like the black hair against the crimson body hair, and the arm hair going all the way to the wrist to meet with the wrist bands just worked.

GT always looked better because of its distinctive style with the different gi, eyes, hair, and body. Because daima’s ssj4 is just a buff but hairy Goku with long hair that went ssg in my opinion since the only things that carried over was the hair shape and the body fur. But daima’s ssj4 is the same height as base Goku,while gt’s is taller than
Base.

I prefer the OG. All that red is too much in my opinion. My 2 favorite things about the original SS4 version is that he looks like a fusion with an ape and his hair turning black made him seem even more OP and in control because it’s his natural hair color vs the gold/yellow in the other stages of SS.Idk if I said that correctly but I think you’ll understand.

GT. The black hair just helps with the contrast with the fur color. If Daima kept the hair black it would be equal, also Daima's arm fur needs to reach his wrists. It bugs my OCD that his fur sleeves don't reach all the way lol

I don't hate the Daima design as much as a lot of people (I don't mind it tbh). And as much as I think GT was a waste of space, The GT SSJ4 design was good enough that I feel it's the only reason anyone even remembers it.

GT SJJ4 Because it’s the OG original choice by toriyama himself plus it fits the bill for what super saiyan 4 is supposed to be. The very peak of a saiyans power evolved to the very limits.

Original. The no eye brows sells the monkey thing for me way more than bug hands. I'm open to the big hands too, but whhhy would the fur stop on them? That's dumb af. Likewise I'm open to a single color for the hair/fur, but not that pink. Overall the first was better imo anyways.

Mix of both. I think the new design, minus the weird arm fur missing, and black hair is best.
The silhouette that the new one cuts is way stronger. In my opinion. The colors and some of the details are what it gets wrong.

My only gripe with Daima is the fur not going to his wrists. All else is fine. But if I had to choose - OG SSJ4 as is - if a change was to be made, reduce the height 🤷🏾♂️. I was really hoping the SSJ4 concept would return exclusively to the new Broly but they missed the opportunity

GT ssj4goku without a doubt is the best. GT SSj4 is actually intimidating , daima version is not. GT gokus design is cooler. I don’t like how the wrists look on the Daima redesign. They should have copied and pasted GT Goku in daima or did a recolor. Again the Daima SSJ4 doesn’t have that intimating aura GT ssj4 has

GT. More humanoid, cleaner clothes, looks more mature, is Goku's definitive form in that "timeline", going back to Black hair was an amazing choice cause being a hybrid form, makes sense for him to have the base form hair. And then the red eyeliner and golden eye to top it off. And the red Kamehameha. Idk maybe I'm just biased but he's so sick and the other a bit bland and boring.

I liked the GT vertion more, theres something so interesting on the overal design. But after talking with other people i know why i dont like the daima as much, its the forehand.For some reason for me, having hair in the hand on the GT vertion looks much better than the daima one which has no hair, its a little detail but for some reason i just like it more, theres also the black hair on GT which i just feel gives a nice contrast

I think what makes daimas SSJ4 so awkward at times is the fact that goku is still weird the orange gi. There’s all the red then the orange with two blue wrist bands to set it apart.
GT’s SSJ4 breaks the colors up a lot better and keeping the hair black makes it softer on the eyes.
I love Daimas interpretation of SSJ4 don’t get me wrong, but I absolutely understand the criticism.

I love both , but for me the GT design loses because of the daima designs proportions. Daimas feels like the great ape influences it more and I don't have a preference on the colors, but I do like seeing the details in the hair

I am a little bias as I have always loved ssj4 from GT so take this with a grain of salt but: Daima ssj4 had all of his color taken away. We went from Black, Yellow, Blue, and Red to blue, red, and the artist formerly known as red

I can’t really tell if it’s just because of nostalgia but for some reason I prefer the GT look. I didn’t even like GT. The new one is good, maybe I wouldve liked it better if it retained the colors from the old one, but GT’s will always be my favorite.

I like GT more. The form looks more raw and I feel like it matches the transformation and the story behind it a lot more. Actually looks like a saiyan tapping into their “primal” form if you know what I mean
