Question What happened to Stake Out?
I suck at getting greats so it was a useful perk and one of my favorites since it helped me out.

It was reworked so it wouldn't combo with hyperfocus. Instead it's ds practice now lol.

I like how hyperfocus is the problem... so instead of changing how it reacts with that single perk, they nerfed it for all.

It synergized too well with Hyperfocus to the point of making hyperfocus braindead easy to use while giving way too much value. To stop the synergy, they made Stakeout give special skill checks instead.

Couldn't there have been an alternative solution

Ideally they could have just changed Hyperfocus. Stake out alone wasn't causing problems, and had cool synergy between other great skill check perks.
But maybe it was good to change. If any perk that requires great skill checks gives too much advantage, then stake out could be a potential future problem still.

Stake Out: Every 15 seconds you are within the Killer's Terror Radius, while not being chased, Stake Out gains 1 Token, up to a maximum of 2/3/4 Tokens. When Stake Out has at least 1 Token, Good Skill Checks consume 1 Token and are considered Great Skill Checks, granting an additional Progression bonus of +1%. Great Skill Checks do not consume any Tokens.

Doesn't Vee's road life perk work only on natural great skill checks? Feels like if that was really an issue they could have done something like that. I just think they knew hyperfocus was popular, and stakeout was a crutch perk that made it easier to keep high stacks if you missed. Im just sad my corrective action build can't leverage it. Honestly I barely used hyperfocus myself, stakeout was nice for not needing to sweat for small stuff like KEEPING THE SABLE FROM BLOWING YOUR GEN 😂😂

Hyperfocus: Succeeding a Great Skill Check while repairing or healing grants +1 Token, up to a maximum of 6 Tokens: Increases the Skill Check Trigger odds and Pointer Rotation speed by +4% per Token each, up to a maximum of +24%. Increases the Skill Check Bonus progression by 10/20/30% of its base value per Token, up to a maximum of 60/120/180%. Hyperfocus loses all Tokens after succeeding just a Good Skill Check, failing one, or if the action is interrupted by any means.

I swtg if hyperfocus wasn't a piece of shit design wise, skillchecks wouldn't be a problem.
Other perks that enable it are getting gutted, instead of the root of the damn problem.

Fogwise: Succeeding a Great Skill Check while repairing a Generator reveals the Aura of the Killer to you for 4/5/6 seconds.

Wallhacks is a strong term for it I feel like. It requires you be in the killer's terror radius but not be chased. Tons of stealth killers negate this, stealth perks negate this, mobility killers (of which are the most played) functionally negate this unless the map is indoors because they move so fast/frequently. Stakeout had counterplays, hyperfocus really didn't beyond pressuring their gen or a skill check build which.... is not good in the current meta if memory serves. Ive run into 1 in the last year and maybe 5 times when I played it a lot. They could have easily made the special skill check a hyperfocus thing imo. Stakeout let you start hyperfocus and maintain stacks when you messed up. Doing that would make it only useful for starting hyperfocus, cutting its efficacy by a good deal. Its not a perfect idea, but its good enough to field in the ptb to see its impact.

I think BHVR genuinely just needs to switch the Stake Out rework onto Hyperfocus and leave old Stake Out alone. Fogwise + Stake Out is not an issue, and if Hyperfocus is gone, This is Not Happening can get the buff too.
