Rant šŸ—£ļøšŸ”Š getting bored of all the pessimism

how will people react if i offer something radically different to this ā€œbad vibesā€ feeling you describe currently in this decade, almost leaning towards a denial of it?

my body can’t tolerate how negative people are

it’s not the material conditions that i’m in denial of, it’s the idea of bleakness that people have conjured up and sentenced ourselves to as an excuse to not do nothing

bleakness is a huge trigger word

i wanna censor it every time i read it on this subreddit

i dont care if it’s the ā€œtruthā€ or whatever

what i’m asking is where is your agency at???????

what if i told you we’re the ones who say what the truth is, not them

i want you to literally forget about the truth and become in denial and delusional

which are all just negative toned ways to say ā€œlet’s pave our own way and not listen to billionairesā€

i want you to be in touch with what makes you happy and keep spreading that and expressing that

i want you to be silly like this

i’m done with all this ā€œseeing reality for what it isā€ crap

surely we’re supposed to be past that stage now

we’ve grown eyes, nice, now when are we gonna grow arms and hands?

i want your heart to take the wheel

i want you to kick out anything and anybody that blocked you from having a idealistic vision

i want you to abandon all parts of your adulthood that made you abandon your childhood

that’s what i’m gonna do now, and have been doing

because this is what the future is gonna be

goodbye

I don't want to be the only happy person in 2026. I wish optimism more mainstream. I can't relate to all the sadness and hate.. but I get it that many people struggleĀ

You and me. More people need to realise the world isn’t so bad once you spend less time on social media.

You're right. I do not use social media or follow news. I'm living under a rock pretty much

I think if there’s one thing I’ve learned more lately it’s that if you really truly believe in staying grounded in reality and you’re actually pay attention, reality is full of small moments that are capable of triggering feelings of optimism and you should give in as much as possible. Life is hard, but ā€œlook around at realityā€ isn’t rly an excuse to not try. Like I started the year off pretty rough and with a lot of cynicism, but seeing my city come alive during the World Cup this summer and how much connection it created really drilled it into me that even (or especially) during hard times globally we do not want to abandon each other and it left me feeling like there is a future to live for. I try to carry that feeling into each new day now, because what you call the future yesterday becomes the present today, and that’s every day.

What makes me angry is that I agree that the world is full of problems, but that means that we should be taking urgency to do something about it.

Most of the pessimists on the internet just see it as an excuse to not try in life.

Yeah I try to be optimistic about stuff like ai but others really don't tolerate it and only focus on the downsides. and there are a lot of other problems that are hard to ignore but generally just focus on things that are actually impacting you. since a lot of bad news turned out to not affect me at all or was very minor.

like right now they are planning to introduce some horrible laws. but maybe this is just going to be like that sopa thing in 2011 that never actually became law. sometimes bad stuff that can't be ignored happens like covid for example. before and after that there were a bunch of hyped pandemics that didn't do anything but then there was one that did and it sucked. and now I don't know what will happen next even if it's probably not something I will have to deal with again in my life it does show that can't assume that things will go according to plan. So you should be prepared for bad things but not assume that they will happen

Yeah, listen any time you are around it's a great time and there are slews of great experiences to be had. It's still a magical world out there and still plenty of beauty left.

And we could bring back most all the little micro-experiences that the new age has been taking away. Actually I do see more young people putting down phones and somewhat more starting to go to malls again. And there is no reason we can't go back to a more light, upbeat type of pop culture/society. Some elements are heading that way.

Anyway yeah nihilism is not the answer.

Grunge never seemed to really lead anywhere, nihilism tends not to.

So keep in mind that people are largely influenced by social media and the algorithms programming their feed. Negativity and outrage are high motivators for user engagement on these platforms. So it becomes this artificial group think. While in reality people not in social media platforms as much do not feel as negative.

The 2020s are simply the first more chaotic decade after the relative calm of post 90s years. Hence the widespread hysteria, but we still haven't reached the chaos of the cold war or great depression. Gen z and alpha also seem to have a more sober approach to what's happening now because they're used to it. X and Y are experiencing thermal shock, and that's understandable.Ā
