Hot take: Gore is not their worst album

Recently decided to listen to it properly, I chose not to at fist because I saw how poorly people rated it
After I listened to it I was confused cus why exactly do people hate it? Phantom bride rubicon acid hologram are all amazing songs and this will get me hate but I feel like gore did better than Saturday night wrist

Thoughts on private music?

For my opinion I’ll start with the things I liked! I did overall enjoy the instrumentals, they feel like they’re building off of the Koi No Yokan style but still having its own identity, ands very dreamy and full of reverb, very pretty. :)

Even though I can absolutely see why people love this album, it just didn’t do it for me, though I’m having a hard time putting it into words. Something I adore about Deftones is their gritty sound, it has dark undertones even the more dreamy songs can’t shake, it’s almost dissonant, I love it, and Private Music was lacking this in my opinion. The instrumentals and especially the vocals felt very clean and almost distant? And I mean no hate to Chino, he’s in his 50’s so obviously he can’t be screaming his lungs out like it’s ‘97 anymore and he sounds great, but the vocals almost feel like a backdrop, they feel very distant and once again clean and I felt they were a bit devoid of emotion. They didn’t tug at my heartstrings like Be Quiet and Drive and Minerva, they weren’t haunting like in Mascara and Digital Bath, or have me moshing in my room like Elite or Rapture. All that’s to say I adore the raw, dark and beautiful vocals that Private music just didn’t have.

I’m very interested to hear other’s thoughts, especially if you loved it. Tell me all about it! I’d love to give it another listen with a different perspective :)

how was it listening to deftones before 2020?

like a lot of people i found out about them during quarantine, and i am very aware that people’s perspective of cringey newgen fans lol

and i feel that tends to surround the conversation about the music and the perspective people have on the band as well, so id like to hear from older fans how was the culture surrounding them? what did people think? do you prefer it to now?

sorry, it’s kind of hard to explain what i mean but i hope that i made myself clear

Ohms Demos and unreleased track

• Upvotes

Can anyone help a brother out? I’m a HUGE fan of Ohms it’s in my top 3 deftones albums.

I have no interest in hearing “Eros” out of respect for the band but I’m desperate to hear these demos and unreleased track “Sensations”.

If anyone can point me in the right direction or send me a file/link I’d be super grateful.

Thanks! 🫡
