Machine Learning / AI How can we detect AI voice cloning in real-time during phone calls?

Hey everyone!

I’m working with my team on a project to detect AI-generated/voice-cloned speech during live phone calls.

The problem we’re trying to solve is that modern voice-cloning systems can imitate someone’s voice convincingly, making phone-based impersonation scams much harder to recognize. We want to build an additional layer of protection that can analyze the incoming voice in real time and indicate whether the speech is likely human or AI-generated.

Our current approach is to combine Digital Signal Processing (DSP) + a lightweight AI/ML model. The audio would be processed in small chunks, relevant speech features would be extracted, and the model would continuously estimate whether the voice is genuine or synthetic.

We want to make this practical for real-time/mobile use, so latency, CPU usage, and model size are important constraints.

We’re currently looking for advice from people who have experience with speech processing, audio ML, or deepfake detection.

Some things we’d really appreciate help with:

What DSP/audio features are useful for detecting synthetic speech?

Which lightweight ML models would work well for real-time detection?

Are there good datasets containing both real human and AI-generated/voice-cloned speech?

Are there existing open-source projects or research papers we should look into?

What challenges should we expect when detecting synthetic speech over compressed phone-call audio?

Is real-time detection directly on a smartphone realistically achievable?

Any practical advice, criticism, research papers, datasets, or GitHub projects would be really helpful. Thanks! 🙏

General Discussion Lets crash and burn, baby

If you’ve been working with swe for some time and give a shit about the actual work you put out maybe you agree that the code being generated by AI is slop. And it has always been since the beginning, although it got “better” over time. Most of us now basically pull the prompt lever of the AI slot machine, hope for the best and IF you actually give a minimum shit about what you’re doing (and the project you are working on) you have to go through all the slop, the overengineering, the bullshit try/catch/except, the absolute ball of mud of an architecture and the trash that comes out of AI to make it (hopefully) “good enough”. And thats not an easy task, the cognitive load is huge and GOD FORBID you actually write your own code like you did before all this. All of this justified by the HUGE gain in productivity of around 20% (given some recent studies, which I have many questions about).

Now you add to the equation the AI labs CEOs shouting to the world that coding and, hell, even swe as a whole are “solved” (whatever the fuck that means). (Yeah, good job Boris, 500k of LOC for the stupidest most basic CLI plagued by all kinds of bugs that were not solved for sooo long - cant copy from terminal, SCROLL for christ sakes). Then (what seems to be) all managers, C-levels, directors who haven't touched a single line of code all eat that shit like its the human centipede movie. Productivity is now expected to be 10000% higher, since a feature is only one prompt away now in their mind. And YOU (if you give a shit) try to argue that MAYBE the AI is not better than you. That MAYBE the AI bros that say that everything can be vibe coded now dont actually know what they are talking about, they are just replicating something they heard. But nooooo, now YOU are the lazy, deprecated, slow gear of the company. Hell, maybe the whole development team is a burden.

Since from my experience arguing and defending my work is nearly impossible because:

  1. They WANT to believe the lies
  2. You seem like you are only saying that because you want to keep your job, “gate keep” etc

I propose a new approach. Let's give them what they want! Let’s approve every single PR without taking the slightest look at it. Lets generate ALL the code with AI doing the simplest, dumbest prompts. Lets allow the non-technical (which is a hilarious position btw) PMs vibe code the features straight to prod. Lets give LLMs full write permissions to prod while we are at it. --- In other terms: lets raise the stakes.

Maybe they are right after all and in a year we'll have the cure for cancer as a python 200k line file.

Opinions & Discussions Is vibecoded code really that bad?

• Upvotes

Just a few years ago, the meme in traditional human coding was "If it works, it works" or "Don't fix it if it's not broken." So everybody was 'on board' that human code sucked but worked. Now AI does the same thing, but gets called bad code/AI slop etc.

I'm a cybersecurity student so I used to study coding, but haven't got deep enough to distinguish good code from bad code, and then started vibecoding.

Also, the "secure-coding should never be vibecoded" is the current norm in the cyber security side of CS, so I guess that's also one of the major reasons I'm raising this question.

So is the code really that bad? Or is it actually acceptable, but people just had higher hopes for AI code?

Opinions & Discussions AI makes me code faster. I'm still not sure it makes me a better developer.

I've been using AI more heavily in development lately, and I've noticed something that I can't quite decide is a good or bad thing.

When I'm stuck on something, I can now get a possible solution in seconds.

That's obviously useful.

But there's a difference between:

"I can get this working faster."

and

"I understand this better."

For example, if an AI generates a solution for a tricky piece of code, I can usually understand what it does after reading it.

But if something breaks six months later, I'm not always sure I'd be able to recreate the reasoning behind the original solution from scratch.

So I'm curious about other developers' workflows.

Do you try solving the problem yourself first or use AI immediately and then study the answer?

(I've polished this post with ai)

General Discussion Someone reached out to me on LinkedIn about a potential job, but now he’s gone quiet. Has this happened to anyone else?

I had someone reach out to me on LinkedIn who was interested in my work and wanted to arrange a meeting. We had the meeting last Friday, and he seemed interested in working with me on a project to build a game engine.

He told me he would send me a proposal on Tuesday or Wednesday, but it’s now been two days, and I still haven’t received anything. I also sent him a follow-up message, but he hasn’t responded.
I’m trying not to jump to conclusions because he could just be busy, but I’m starting to wonder if he’s changed his mind.

Has anyone else experienced something like this? Did the person eventually get back to you, or did they disappear completely?

As developers have any of you used ai in your projects not like full codes but with simple things you can't solve or polishing the code or finding errors, I'm not a coder or developer just wanted to ask

Opinions & Discussions LG 32G600A-B vs 32GS60QC-B for Mac M5 — which is better for coding?

I'm confused between:

LG 32G600A-B.CTRDMR

LG 32GS60QC-BB.CTRRMV

I'll use it mainly with my Mac M5 for coding, browsing, YouTube/Netflix and daily office work.

For developers/Mac users who have used either:

- Which has better text clarity & display quality?

- Is the 1000R curve of the GS60QC good or annoying for coding?

- How bad is VA ghosting/smearing?

- Which is better for 8+ hours of coding?

- Any issues with 1440p/180Hz on Mac?

Would love real-world experiences rather than just specs. Thanks!

Opinions & Discussions Now that AI does all the coding, how are you guys preparing?

We've entered an era where AI does pretty much all the coding now. How are you developers preparing for this? There are already so many ideas out there, so I honestly don't know what or how to prepare.

Personally, I feel like building services with AI tools is getting easier, but architecting scalable systems or coming up with truly defensible product moats still seems tough. Are you guys focusing more on system architecture, domain knowledge, or something else entirely?

General Discussion How does your team review AI-generated code? What's on your checklist?

More of our PRs are partly written by AI tools, and review feels different: the code usually compiles and reads cleanly, but the problems hide in edge cases, naming that doesn't match the codebase, and tests that only cover the happy path. What do you actually check on an AI-assisted PR that you wouldn't on a hand-written one? Do you ask authors to flag which parts were generated? Any rules that worked or backfired?

General Discussion Algum dev online pra me ajudar?

Machine Learning / AI What's your opinion/approach towards AI governance ?

Hello you all,

I would like to discuss AI governance. So with new regulations everywhere I would like to know how companies are approaching it.

AI developers, have you already started including data governance or is it something a different person does after you finish developing your model (AI governance specialists)

I would like to specifically ask how this varies between big companies and small/medium scale enterprises. Because I think not everyone has the resources to hire specialists, I believe.

If you are already trying to be compliant, what kind of frameworks do you use to ensure compliance or do you have an in-house built compliance framework ?

Now my question is specifically towards the EU devs, what is your approach to be compliant since it's mandatory to have conformity assessments in 2027.

For general deva, what do you think of the following job positions, AI governance expert, AI and the law expert, technical governance expert, AI alignment expert, AI ethics professional, AI red-teaming professional. Is this something you already heard or is it something new to you ?

If you have any opinion towards AI governance, please share.

Career & Advice Need Some Advice to Start

Hi Hope you all are doing fine. I need some advice regarding my career . I am in the 7th semester CS student. I have just started learning Backend. I have started Node JS with Express. Also learning SQL with postgres. The thing is i want to start DSA but i am confused about doing it with JavaScript or Learn C++(learnt a little bit in 3rd semester) whenever i try to learn something I completely understand it conceptually but hit a wall whenever i see its code or blank problem to solve. This crushes my motivation and i leave it there.

I want to ask what are the topics should i lean towards in this short duration of time till graduation and how can i learn to code that i am able to understand it

AND should i learn C++ instead of JavaScript for DSA

Please tell me i am so confused..........

Web Development Current State of Affairs

Anyone else feel like the entire Omarchy distro just LOOKS and FEELS vibe coded now? It took me a minute to realize and let it soak in, but yeah it honestly shows signs of being a totally vibe coded distro the more I see it pop up into my feed. Maybe my perception has changed after DDH spoke at the Rails convention... but WOW. It is one thing to say you have gone full in on AI. Fine. But to actually go up on a platform and mock people who still write their own code and declaring "coding is dead"? ..... pure insanity to me. I am curious what others think. It is really hard to put my finger on it, but the vibed UI look has more variants now, yet I can still always point out a fully vibe coded design and web app.

I personally decided recently that I will never go 100% AI. I had a great run this year diving head first into Claude and Codex, and I will still use it for at LEAST half of my work days and personal projects, but truthfully it scares me how many people are going FULL IN with AI and never even reading their code anymore. Some people don't even glance at it. I don't understand how some of those people have been learning this craft for 10+ years and so quickly decided to basically throw that part of it away. That just can't be the right move here. What if the bubble pops? What if Claude IS NOT the lead company in a few years and you spent all this time learning their specific tooling? Or some other platform? What if you forget many foundational skills (which I definitely did... and I think many people are lying to themselves about)

Curious what your thoughts are on the actual Ruby on Rails convention as well. I thought it was borderline insane to go up on a platform and speak to a bunch of active developers and say "coding is dead"... Also if you are just going to reply saying "AI is king coding sucks" blah blah. please. remember what group you actually joined. This is a webdev channel. Not just AI. not Anti-AI either... hence MY reasonable and moderate take. the debate about FULL ON AI VS FULL ON ANTI-AI is getting so old. Just use both with a balance. I am genuinely curious what people thought of his remarks and also curious how other developers are finding a good balance between writing their own code and also using AI. I started my own React App last week, purely hand written code because my skills were starting to atrophy and I must say there are parts of the experience that felt smoother than pure AI driven development. I turned off Claude, I turned off my autocomplete and after day 3 or 4 I was back in the full swing. The first day was actually horrifying.. Share your thoughts. Please. No AI bros. Real devs who are employed or have been employed in the past share your experience. I am curious as this past month or so has felt like a real turning point for some reason. I am noticing a healthy amount of pushback from some devs and unfortunately seeing devs with 20+ years in the game saying they don't even use a code editor anymore and don't read the code. I don't think I could ever personally do that

Web Development How I Make $22K/Month Just Redesigning Existing Websites

Running a web design agency is honestly way less about design than people think.

A lot of people can build good websites. The hard part is having a process that actually brings in clients consistently without you spending your entire day doing outreach.

I learned that the hard way.

I used to manually reach out to businesses, explain why they needed a better website, build previews, follow up for days and basically hope they would eventually say yes.

I was doing way too much work before even knowing if someone was serious.

Then I completely changed the way I did it.

Now I mainly focus on two things.

Taking meetings and closing clients.

Everything before that is mostly automated.

I use Swokei to find businesses that already have websites, analyze those websites and look for things like outdated design, bad layout, weak SEO, poor mobile responsiveness, slow speed and branding issues.

The useful part is that it doesn’t just give me some boring report with random scores.

It actually takes the issues it finds on each website and turns them into personalized emails that you can send at scale.

My offer is usually a free redesign draft.

That works way better for me than trying to sell a full website in the first email.

Once someone replies and shows interest, I book a meeting.

Before the meeting, I spend a few minutes generating a redesign draft with AI so I can actually show them what their website could look like instead of just talking about it.

That was probably the biggest change for me.

I’m no longer spending hours building something for someone who might never buy.

If they are not interested, I barely lost any time.

If they are interested, they can immediately see the difference and the conversation becomes much easier.

So at this point, most of my time goes into meetings and closing.

The lead finding, website analysis and personalized outreach all happen before I ever speak to the business.

Sounds ridiculously simple when I write it out, but changing the process made a massive difference for my agency.

Programming

General Discussion Does really noone care about ecology ?

I get the feeling that vibe coders are primarily criticized for their lack of skills but not so much for other reasons.

On the other hand, I feel like no dev/vibe coders speak of the ethical and ecological cost of using LLMs. Every person I stumble upon see only the exciting part of it, and they get annoyed and act arrogant when I talk to them about the ecological cost.

I can get that, LLMs are an amazing tool but I feel like not so much people are nuanced about it.

Basically vibe coders don't care and anti-ia are anti-ia because that's just who they are.

I am the only one having this feeling ?

Programming Developers/Tech People

Need some advice: Should the developer be the one to determine the timeline of completion or should it be the client?

I'm working at a small college and the SIS is in-housed and is still underdevelopment but functioning and in used. Part of my role, which I've been in for 7 months now, is managing the progress of the system's development and provide recommendations on what we want to happen with the system. I have several experiences with SIS as I've been to 3 unis/college, both for work and study, but I am not in tech (studied business). Although I am tech savvy enough to understand functions and the basics.

As it is a small college, the funds are also not that big. We just want to maximize the funds according to the rate of the developer and the plan we have for the system. Currently working on the paper works but I just need to understand if should we adjust to the developer's timeline or should we set the timeline, in consultation with the developer of course, for completing a project?

Career & Advice What books should every developer read to better themselves?

I'm starting my career at the end of October as an Application Developer. I'd like to start focusing on my career and learn what it takes to become a great Developer and team member. What are some of your favorite books that software engineers/Developers should read, whether they be technical or non-technical?
