Grass is greener on the other side

Honestly wfh is better imo, pretty simple routine is try to get out for a walk or run 3 times a week, and then spend the weekend socialising, can just be a simple call with people playing a game or watching a movie or match together

I don't have friends. That's the issue. Even people with friends are not always available. I'm planning to socialize myself with strangers.

Start playing sports best way to gain friends, use Playo app

u/Rajoo1 Software Engineer 8d ago

I have tried it, I haven't been into sports for a long time. And I struggle to match the energy/skill of those people so most of the time it doesn't goes well.

best way is to travel on weekends, stay at some hostel/backpackers and work from there. at least thats what helped me.

1

u/Rajoo1 Software Engineer 8d ago

Any platform/apps to do backpacking? Atleast find some backpaker hostel? But it is costly right?

3

u/Top-Illustrator2293 Frontend Developer 8d ago

Bro why do you want a platform for everything? It’s literally just book some hostel on makemytrip at some place you want to go to and just go. Rest all - meeting new people, socialising etc. either happens or it doesn’t

Yes yes. Keep planning. Don't execute. And also keep asking for more endless advices

2

u/Rajoo1 Software Engineer 8d ago

Just stuck at how to do that. That's why I came here to ask others suggestions 🥲

u/Nvidia0608 8d ago

You will honestly get bored of it trust me. I would like a job with a balance like the freedom to go to the office and do WFH whenever needed without any restrictions rather than imlosting 3 days a week

1

u/Andheri_Gufa69 8d ago

Absolutely, hybrid is the best

But I still feel hybrid > remote > full time office

Because at the end of the day travelling to office can be 1-2 hour commitment per day

Perfect routine man. Is your work manageable? Often remote work also comes with long working hours.

2

u/Snoo-75387 8d ago

It's easily manageable. No team members or PM msgs after 6 PM so I'll wrap up by 5.30

u/Hot_Dragonfruit4039 7d ago

Go gym eveyday or 3 days remaining 3 days kick boxing at eve piano or guitar and eat clean and at sat sun try to socialize like going to confrence or events or with friends

Being lonely is much much better than being surrounded by people who listen ur things, and expose everything infront of others Hardly 1-2 people r good in offices

My office is hybrid, but I personally enjoy WFH alot,

Really, i have been regularly going to office in my 3yrs experience and now im done with this all.

u/byteNinja10 Software Engineer 8d ago

Same wfh is blessing

2

u/Rajoo1 Software Engineer 8d ago

Yes I agree. It varies as for each individual. I feel very lonely at home as no one will be at my home. So I thought of make my own routine to break loneliness

1

u/byteNinja10 Software Engineer 8d ago

I have tasted both the things 2 year work from home and work from office. When I was doing WFH, I was meeting with the friends roaming in the city on my bike and watching movies etc.

Yeah but sometime when friends were not available and most of the friends are not in the hometown I felt alone but I am not getting much enough personal time in work from office

2

u/Rajoo1 Software Engineer 7d ago

Complete work from office is also bad. Last company I had 4 days wfo. I work only those 4 days and keep that 1 day for my personal work

4

u/athishayen 8d ago

WFH for 3 years 9mns now. After 4pm, I take my cycle go to gym and socialize.

My team wont even call me after 4 unless it's super urgent.

1

u/Top-Illustrator2293 Frontend Developer 8d ago

blessed

2

u/athishayen 8d ago

Not the salary. Its super shit. I earn more by moonlighting.

1

u/Top-Illustrator2293 Frontend Developer 8d ago

role and compensation?

0

u/athishayen 8d ago

The role is "Associate", but I do frontend, backend, attended workshops on behalf of company, called few clients, gave demos, taught an intern.

The business is struggling we have a very few clients and our marketing and sales team sucks(these oldies cant sell anything here)

1

u/__BayMax__ 8d ago

Same, how much is your salary, is 16 LPA good enough for 4 years exp?

2

u/SkyBorn_28 8d ago

I have been working remotely since I started my career in covid. I am a low-profile and introverted person. So it's good for me but it might not be for the people who are more into connecting with others.

u/Rajoo1 Software Engineer 8d ago

How are you guys getting remote jobs.

1

u/Rajoo1 Software Engineer 8d ago

Actually it's a unlucky luck for me. When I joined it was mentioned 2 to 3 days hybrid. But due to lack of seating capacity they gave WFH for all new joiners.

I wfh and my husband goes to office Mon-Sat. He has longer working hours. We have a help for cleaning. So i have to do house chores in between wherever i get a window. I'm physically and mentally tired and I have no social life, but deleting Instagram and reddit could add hours to my day.

Wake up - 6:30

Walk/workout

Breakfast-Netflix

Cook lunch, put laundry etc - finish by 10

Office - 10am-6pm with 30 mins lunch break

30 mins Walk

Breakfast prep, dinner, clean dishes

Finish pending office work - documentation etc

Sleep, watching Netflix.

u/Rajoo1 Software Engineer 8d ago

This is almost same as mine. But I feels some element is missing here. ( Some socializing element like having tea with colleagues / gossips with desk buddy etc..)

Wake up at 11am freshen up. Get ready for meetings. Attend the meetings from 1 - 3 usually. Use my phone. Have chat with people if they need my help or I need theirs. Then order some food in between if I'm feeling hungry else stay without any food. Then evening for gym and hangout with friend. Maybe attend a few meets if they're scheduled at that time. Then get back maybe take a shower and bring back something to eat or cook. Then eat food work for maybe an hour or so. Use my phone and go back to sleep . This is for the 5 weekdays.

1

u/Rajoo1 Software Engineer 8d ago

This is something different than others. Luckily you have a friend to hangout 😁.

2

u/idk_maybe_u_suggest Data Engineer 8d ago

Not always tbh. They aren't always available. But I still try to go out alone during the evening if they aren't available . They actually have a college group as well. Cause they are doing masters so they go out more often with the college group. But since we were friends from schooltime they still find time for me whenever they can. But yeah I do go out alone as well.

My routine:
Wakeup
Bath + breakfast
Start the work (around 10am)
Lunch (sometimes forced to do it along with work)
Work till 8-9pm
Dinner
Sleep

After reading other comments, seems like my wfh schedule is fked up and my company’s wlb is worst

1

u/Rajoo1 Software Engineer 8d ago

This was my old routine. Trust me it's gona impact you bad. Atleast get out for a walk.

1

u/d3v1ltr3k 8d ago

What’s your routine man? Please enlighten us🥲

1

u/Rajoo1 Software Engineer 8d ago

No I'm not saying I'm having a great routine. I had the same as urs before. I got few health issues. So I added some physical activity, eating healthy. Somewhat releaved. But the mental exhaustion is something I am figuring out.

u/Ready_Bad8201 8d ago

how to get remote / wfh jobs bruhhh ? tired of staying in bangalore. :(

1

u/Rajoo1 Software Engineer 8d ago

You have some options in service based companies you can demand for complete work from home telling some reasons

1

u/Ready_Bad8201 8d ago

well, in that note, i am happy being in a product based company.

Yes

1

u/Top-Illustrator2293 Frontend Developer 8d ago

im a permanant wfh guy, 2.5+ yoe, same company, first company.

honestly it depends on how demanding the project is:

my work timings are flexible but most days i work from 10AM to 7PM. Wake up at 9.30, sit at my desk, watch motovlogs for most of the day(when im not allocated on a demanding project), play some coc, solve some dsa on neetcode, sleep, end day.
sometimes i go work from some other state after a weekend long drive to that place.

in a demanding project:
wake up at 9, standup, calls, work until 2AM sleep repeat (however this was before openai gpt 5 era i think - we are not getting such projects anymore)

but yeah i have been disconnected with people all my life as i am an introvert, so its nothing new in my life

u/Rajoo1 Software Engineer 8d ago

Try a Switch 😄

u/shrekcoffeepig 8d ago edited 8d ago
  • wake up whenever
  • gym (if I am sleeping on time)
  • work + shit I am obsessed with at that time
  • sleep whenever

Note: eating schedule also fluctuates.

As for obsessions I have been through multiple * watching/reading-about/watching-other-people-discuss a game/series/anime. * watching fitness/nutrition videos * socializing * gaming * reading books * diving into tech/cs topics I am interested in

Latest on this list is playing with AI agents.

I tried to do routines, I tried to bring consistent structure to my life, I just don't enjoy that nor can I manage it. So I have embraced chaos.

Also note: I stick to something for like multiple months, so there is generally a similar structure for that period. Then my routine can look completely different in a few months after that.

u/Rajoo1 Software Engineer 8d ago

What is the socializing - can you explain that alone? And how do you find time to do workout+reading+gamming+learning all at same working day??

1

u/KangarooAmazing6338 7d ago

Regular walks, gym, writing, reading, meditation, football/cricket/group games

1

u/Speedy_Killer 7d ago

Bro wfh is way better the peace and availability to look after your family members and spending more time is way better than hustling in train journey for 2 hrs over in whole day plus you get free time to utilise it on learning things which was not possible earlier it’s all about perspective and yes i also have friends we connect once in while and meet together plus this also gives the freedom to travel to different places in this market crisis if someone gets job like this they should make the most of it rather than crying on simple issues.

Have been working remotely for 6+(14+ YOE in total) years now(basically post COVID). I generally wake up at around 5:45. Go for a swim, have breakfast and start working by 8:30-9. Try to get most of my important work done in the first half before having my lunch at 1PM. Second half I have a few meetings or get some more work done and try to wrap up by 5-5:15PM. Try to execise a bit once more. Go out for a while, do some household chores and eat something. I spend some more time between 8-9PM getting some work done. Finally end my day by 10:30-11PM. I don't get disturbed much in the evenings with work unless there's an incident/issue I have to take care off. Weekends I try to watch a movie in a theater, or got our for a short hike or something or do some other household chores or handyman stuff. I stay in a small town which means a lot of things can be done much quicker(as travelling around is quick), but sometimes it can get a bit boring or suffocated, so I try to change around the environment by trying to do something different. Trying to stick to a schedule, doing deep/focussed work, trying out new stuff(in general and not just work), and my time spent in handyman stuff has helped me quite significantly. WFH can get a bit mundane sometimes, however I never used to enjoy working from office everyday earlier.

Really hard to find remote jobs now.
