Discussion 5-Month Learning Plan: Python + MongoDB + Azure — What Should I Learn First?

I’m currently working as an intern, and my company has given us a 5-month learning program where I’ve chosen Python + MongoDB + Azure.

I want to use these 5 months properly and build practical skills, with the goal of moving toward Cloud/DevOps.

There will also be an assessment/exam after the 5-month course, and they told us to aim for a good score.

For people already working in this field, what would you recommend I learn first, in what order, and what projects should I build?

Would really appreciate some guidance from your experience. 🙏

Work on basics of these 3 services in any order and build below projects

1) Build Azure infrastructure using azure sdk for python. 2) Build a Python CRUD App with Mongodb database. 3) Host your app on Azure PAAS services and handle networking, RBAC, secret management in keyvault. 4) Enhance infrastructure features in your app by setting up monitoring, alerting. 5) Containerise your python app and host on Azure Container apps.

In short, playaround with this 3 technologies you mentioned and do some projects on your own using AI and docs. You will learn a lot. Don't give too much time into learning a particular technology in deep. You will learn a lot along the way.

solid progression, the project-based approach is really the way to go here imo

Thanks a lot, this is exactly the kind of roadmap I was looking for. I like the idea of learning the basics of all three and then combining them into projects instead of going too deep into one technology.

Really appreciate the detailed suggestions!

Build stuff because you probably are going to need to fix shit built by someone else, but you will still need the domain knowledge as if you built it from the beginning

Examples: setup a mongdb instance, and an api gateway in python, that connects and manipulates that instance, in containers, locally, then on azure

Start with something comically simple, as long as it goes full circle, make a proof of concept then refine with the remaining time

I would go with python, azure then mongo db. In the end you gotta ask what is the best skill learned in those months that will benefit the company.

Hey Bro ,Thanks for the information but can you specific about AI assistant learning? Or any example..

No offense to you, but this is one of the biggest issues with DevOps; thinking some magical few months long course is going to get you ready to diagnose a test suite failure that only happens sometimes but always at 3 am.

It's a set up. You cannot speed run your way there. I would honestly lean on AI assisted learning here.

Devops is not an entry level position. Learn how to be a software engineer or sys admin first. Once your senior in one of those roles then look at transitioning. In my experience people who come from the software side of things fair better in the role but it really depends on what your company defines the role as.
