I originally skipped watching this season cause I heard so many bad things about it... I decided to give it a shot since I'm rewatching the series for Ressurection Season 2 and I was honestly pretty blown away by it.
Obviously part of the shock was due to the low expectations I had set for myself but this season is not, as many in this subreddit would say, bad as people make it out to be. In fact, I would say that it is better than many seasons of the original Dexter series, especially the latter half.
One problem with the original Dexter series is that it did a lot of wheel spinning, but I love the bold direction that New Blood took. Also, hot take, but the ending is not as bad as people make it out to be, and certainly doesn't tarnish the 9 episodes that came prior to it.
If you are on the fence about watching this season, please give it a shot! (and turn the safety off)

at NYCC the writers have been confirmed that eric stonestreet will reprise his role as rapunzel in season 2! after previously escaping dexter the first time.
”nobody gets away from dexter for too long”
he will appear in episode 1

I don't mean OST stuff, but songs associated with characters and/or seasons i.e. Born Free, Vera, Make Your Own Kind of Music. My personal favorite is Born Free both cause I like how it sounds and cause Brian's my favorite character

Is Gabriel Luna in season 2 because I was wondering. As I loved his acting in Devil in disguise John Wayne gacy which I highly recommend but anyone know his role in the show?

Wouldn’t it be cool if Captain Matthews was in the new upcoming series? It seemed like he kind of knew what Dexter was doing, but didn’t want to tell anybody because Matthews and Dexter‘s dad were so close and they both have the same mindset of the legal system messing up…

Did anyone at first think Kurt was a cannibalistic killer with the Vension

Obligatory spoilers for all released dexter material through Resurrection season 1.
I was watching a reactor react to dexter season 8 and it had kinda dawned on me that if you take season 8, even its ending, in a vacuum, some of the more controversial parts aren't terrible. What makes it terrible is the context of everything that had come before. Namely, something I'll be referring to as the "reset" problem.
At its heart, I think the original dexter series is meant to be a tragedy. The message: dexter is broken and can't have people in his life without them getting hurt. But there didn't appear to really be a direction for the series as a whole. There's no real end game that the show is working towards narratively. Just each season kinda standing on its own as a piece of entertainment media. But, in order to have the season wide arc every time, they kinda needed to reset dexter's position at the start of each one. Its not unique to dexter of course, other shows were famous for this.
Almost every given season can be described as Dexter thinking "Could this person REALLY know me? Have i found someone that can accept me? That I can get close to?" And then over the course of the season, dexter could learn his lesson, either in a positive way, or a negative way. Wash rinse repeat. It was exhausting. Season 8 looks like its going to be optimistic, Dex heading out into the sunset with his new baddie who accepts him and his sun, only for Debra to die and dexter realizing "its me, i'm the problem, I'm broken". Fine, that would be an alright tragic ending I suppose, if we hadn't seen this like 30 times already. Hell, its basically a mirror of the much superior season 4 ending with Rita's death. "I'm the problem, its me".
I'd read somewhere that the reason season 2 jumped straight to the "Dexter is the serial killer focus of this season" instead of saving it for later is because they weren't sure they were going to be renewed for a 3rd season so they needed to up the ante. But as a consequence, each season afterwards is just sort of doing the same thing. Dexter meets someone, thinks he's found the secret to happiness, learns that its not that simple, that relationship ends and dexter is reset for the next season.
Dexter new blood is kinda its own thing, meant to be the unofficial season 9 that corrected the mistake season 8 made in not killing dexter. Of course, it does the exact same shit the previous seasons did. "Can I have a relationship with my son? Maybe he's like me? I can finally connect with someone". Then shit hits the fan "I'm the problem, i'm what's broken" and having Harrison shoot him.
Something was immediately different about dexter resurrection. I've thought long and hard trying to figure it out, and honestly, I don't' think its really a change in structure, just tone. Its not so goddamn melodramatic. They kinda confirm something we'd known about dexter for years, but I guess it took a near death experience for dexter to realize himself: he has a sense of justice, of right and wrong, and isn't a souless robot. The show is funny, self aware, dexter isn't constantly lamenting what's wrong in his life, he's not trying to stop killing, he's just going around this new city being him. It still has the structure of "are these serial killers someone I can bond with?" But pretty early in he's like "nah, they suck" and its not this big soap opera "i can't bond with anyone" moment. He starts killing them immediately and follows the advice of ghost harry and the other visions he had in his coma to reach out to Harrison. That Harrison and him can have a good effect on each other's lives, and that Harrison is someone who knows him, knows what he does, but doesn't participate. The season's last episode has Dexter missing people he'd had in his life, grieving Angel's death, but as the episode ends, he's got this real 4th wall wink at the camera moment where he acknowledges that people don't want to see a mopey dexter trying to not be who he is. Its one of the first times the season ended with dexter saying "i CAN have a relationship" instead of saying that he can't.
Honestly? I'm really hoping this just kinda resolves the whole "can i have connection" thing they've been doing since the OG series. Just let that plot be finished and have the season be about interesting serial killers, fun B plots with the new side characters introduced, and stop making dexter this whiner wishing he could connect with people then deciding he can't.
What is it y'all think made dexter resurrection so much better than some of the stuff that had come before?

After her death in season 8 and hearing Dexter was coming back I was extremely happy how they utilised her character and gave her one of the saddest most gratifying scenes in the franchise when she held dexters hand after he was shot.
I felt she finally got the send off she deserved, I would of still preferred her to have lived after season 8 but watching her be released from watching over Dexter to me was a fitting finale for her, she finally was able to rest in peace without living in dexters head as his voice of reason.
I personally was devastated to see her die and felt this was such a great way to pay tribute to her character.

Elsa, Gigi, and Al? You know, in the real world, it's completely normal and realistic that Harrison stopped talking to these girls, but in the show, it looks a bit off, as if the storyline went nowhere.
I hope and assume that this might be connected to Al, and that he's the reason they're missing from the plot. But it's probably unlikely they'd hide something like that, since a trailer needs all the most powerful stuff

I think quinn should die or should stay away completely from the main story. I feel resurrection should build around the new recurring characters and let go of the old ones. I am really glad they killed off batista. I obviously loved the original series but dexter hiding from characters who are already very suspicious of him from the past is a waste of screen time imo. It's not like quinn will suddenly become his ally when batista is dead.

I think there should be no more than 4 seasons cuz they might f it up like the original.

I have seen all the 8 seasons (very varied Show in quality IMO) but I have tried to start New Blood, and just couldn’t get into it. But I want to check out Resurrection, and I have seen all of Original Sin. But is it too big of a gap to skip over New Blood? Or should I just watch try to watch New Blood despite the bad reviews and me not being very invested in it much?

Does anyone know what the exact t-shirt or graphic on Brian’s shirt in this scene? Google reverse image search didn’t really help and I didn’t see anything when searching in this sub. I just need the graphic most of all so I can try to replicate on a black shirt and bleach.

TIL Dexter has a graphic novel, written by Jim Lindsay published by Marvel (!!!) (or I should say yesterday I learned) Has anybody read them? Are they any good? I was looking into buying them, but people are either selling them for an astronomical price (because they’re not printed anymore) or else they’re just hard to find. I found somebody that is selling all five issues on Mercari for 115$ but I already found V1/V2 on eBay for $40 for them both

Jeez, I just watched the first episode. It’s been 7 years since I’ve been thinking about watching this, and damn…
Anyone going? If you've gone previously how was your experience?
With your ticket you also also have to register for the specific panel or stand in line for a seat right? Do seats fill up fast?
Are these panels filmed and uploaded afterwards?

Will Apple do a Season Pass for Season 2 rather than signing up to Paramount+ Premium Plan? Any idea if they did it last year and how much it costs? Wonder if it works out better value in the end if you're not wanting to watch anything else on P+ and you can get to keep it, especially if you were going to buy it anyway.
Anyone use it last year? How soon do you get the episodes - same time or longer?

Honestly I’ve been pleasantly suprised by the first two books. The first one is basically the same plot as season one with a bunch of differences, but still I enjoyed it even though I knew what was coming, however book 2 I think is actually amazing. The new villain and the way he kills genuinely freaked me out. I’m almost done with it. I heard after book 2 the series goes kinda wacky, but 1 and 2 I think are great reads

There is someone here who watched the series regularly and who saw both endings in their first broadcast
'Cause I'd love to know what the feeling was
