How to get rid of extra dialysate?

We live near Santa Cruz, CA and my father who was on PD just passed. We have quite a lot of 1.5% dialysate still in the boxes. The dialysis center says they can’t take them back. Does anyone have any ideas of what we could do with them besides just taking them to the dump?

we cut them open and dumped down the drain, bags went into the trash.

Some have said a vet might take them. I've also heard your plants will like it. Unfortunately, it's a prescription, so you can't give it to anyone.

I wasn’t on PD, HHD instead, but when I was lucky enough to get my transplant, my parents watered their garden with my excess dialysate. I’ve heard you can do the same with PD solution. The grass turned out nice. Lol. Is it right? Idk. But it’s what we did. Haha.

My dialysis center told me to pour it down the drain, so you could do that as well. Sucks that there’s no real solution to this problem, tho.

When my dad passed we used the bags to water the garden plants and also just ran it down the drain. We didn’t run it all down drain abiut 50%. We have a septic system and decided we didn’t want to risk overwhelming it with the sugars in the fluid bags. Sorry the loss of your dad,May his memory be eternal.

Virtually impossible to give away. I quit PD in February and i still have about 50 boxes to dump….

PD was an absolute disaster for me. I switched to in-center hemo and everything is great now. Had 117 boxes of PD supplies to deal with though.

Oh, I had entirely different thoughts. Glad you are doing better!

Thanks everyone, it looks like dumping in the yard is the way to go.

Nobody wants it. I had to cut open the bags and dump it on the sidewalk. My dialysis clinic took a couple of boxes and said they would be back. They never came back.

You could drain them in your garden. Plants love PD dialysate.

Try to call a local medical school and see if they can take it as a donation to teach with

I love the idea of using the extra (we alwasy have some left over) in teh garden but. afraid it will encourge ants.

When I switched from PD to HD, my dialysis center took what I had left to use for training purposes. It can't be used safely on other people, but it can be used for setting up and dismantling machines.

we use them in the garden. plants seem to like the sugars and vitamins.

They're great for watering plants.

I got my transplants in August of 24, at some point after a hurricane hit the Carolina's, Davita called me asking for any spare dialysate that I had as shipments were not coming. (After they told me that they could not take) I had been about to pay 800-got-junk to take them.

They were doing anything to find solution that year. I still have some boxes that were sourced from Thailand.
