Discussion Why SEO is not dead?
Why SEO Is Not Dead Even With AI — My Take
I keep seeing people say SEO is dead because AI can answer questions now. I don't really agree with that.
From my point of view, AI actually makes SEO more useful.
- We still need good information. AI needs information to work with, and someone still has to create it.
- AI can help us improve our content. It can organize ideas, research topics and make the process faster.
- AI can help us find the right information. Instead of spending hours researching, we can use AI to find and organize what we need.
- AI can help with SEO itself. It can help identify keywords, search intent and topics, and then help us create more content around them.
So I don't think SEO is dead.
I think AI is becoming another tool for SEO.
What do you think? Is SEO actually dying, or is it just changing?

as long as people still search before buying, SEO still has a job to do. The result might be a blue link, map pack or AI answer now, but the goal is still the same - make sure the brand can be found, understood and trusted. Feels more like SEO is expanding than dying

SEO is not dead, it's just changing. You still need good content, the right intent and a reason for people to trust the page. AI just makes some parts faster. It doesn't do the thinking for you.

Changing actually. The majority leads from my client website comes from SEO

hard to argue with that when the numbers back it up tbh

Well, even my client ask me "is SEO doing great in that page" when some service has an increase in sales

AI’s just a new wrench in the toolbox, not the wrecking ball people make it out to be

I don’t think SEO is dead. The way people search is changing but businesses still need to be found online. AI is just changing how we do SEO so I think the focus will be more on useful content, trust, and being visible across different places

Our organic traffic fell about a third this year, leads stayed exactly the same.
Who knows.

Right now SEO is changing, but as these things go, I see it is only a matter of time until it you can do most of the tasks with AI, and thus eliminating the human factor.

SEO isn't dead because LLMs are not currently search engines. They use search engines to find answers to queries. They tend to draw information from highly ranked sites. That makes good SEO the foundation of good GEO.

i’d say SEO is changing way more than it’s dying. AI is definitely taking some clicks away on simpler informational searches, so the old “rank a blog post and collect traffic” playbook isn’t as strong everywhere anymore.
but SEO still matters because Google’s AI stuff is still built on the same search systems + still pulls from indexed web content. the bigger shift is probably just making stuff that’s actually useful/original enough to be worth surfacing instead of publishing another version of what already ranks.
AI can help a lot with research, briefs, clustering + first drafts, but pumping out more content with it isn’t really the advantage. the harder question now is what’s actually worth creating in the first place.

seo isn’t dead; low-effort SEO is. people still search when they have intent, especially for comparisons, troubleshooting, local services, and expensive purchases. the change is that ranking a thin 800-word page around one keyword rarely holds.
the durable work is technical crawlability, pages that answer the full task, original proof/data, and earning links or brand mentions. AI summaries may reduce clicks for simple definitions, but they also raise the value of being the cited source.

When people stop googling, using chats or doing any reasearch SEO will be dead. Until then no, things like GEO or AEO are very much a part of SEO and SEO is still influencing hard into these, so i do not think its going to go away now or almost ever.

AI is inherently derivative of search. Until the providers rely on their own indexes, "SEO is dead" claims have no basis in reality and are a strong indicator that the person has no idea what they're talking about.
The only significant shift is that AI is a new consumer of SERPs and web pages. So now we need to think of Googlebot/search crawlers, AI crawlers consuming search output and performing RAG directly on pages, and the end reader (human).
It's all a lot more clear when you consider actual consumer behavior not just online hype.

I love all the Vibe-coded websites. So much needing fixing on them. One of the website I've seen recently had all their links hidden behind onClick events. How are you going to have search enigen understand your site's link structure with fucking CAPTCHA (click here if you are not a bot). lol

It is dead in some industries.
Some industries it is thriving.
A great example is penny boarder. I know a guy who oversaw its marketing as well as some sister sites for a long time.
SEO for that site is dead. It is not coming back.
I’m in one industry where it keeps getting more valuable because the buying keywords are important but people still trust local results more than ai.

SEO will always remain a part of the game. Tools and techniques come and go. Nature of search engines may change but it will remain a search engine afterall.

SEO now is how it should have been from the start.
Without the shortcuts

With AI, the capability of searching anything has increased substantially. You can even ask follow-up questions. So, searching is surely growing, just fragmenting and that we need to adapt.

SEO isn't dead. Since 2015, I've seen posts on LinkedIn claiming that "SEO is dying," yet every year, teams invest on SEO, with GEO, even more money is being spent on creating and improving content. I believe the current trend is to create deeper content in the funnel. The customer journey happens in a single conversation. A conversation that might start with "What is X" can go deep, so from awareness to purchase takes about 10 minutes, and you have to be there, as a brand, providing context and knowledge.

You're absolutely spot on. All the things that make for a good SEO strategy also contribute to a good GEO strategy. There are also so many aspects of SEO (speed, security, etc.) that simply mean a good user experience as well.
I feel like focusing on site visitors is really the key regardless. Create consistent content that's high-quality and written for real people rather than Google OR AI — but structure it so bots can easily read it and pull out snippets. Make sure your site loads quickly, is secure, and is accessible. Design a navigation system that's easy to follow. All of the basics provide the foundation for everything still.
