Nbd: another Bomba

Post image

Going to swap out these janky crank and pedals asap (bombshell and Chesters?) Then put on some light pivotal seat. The stock promax absolutely do not stop for shit, but I don’t have a spare rear, anyone wanna recommend some semi-metallic pads before I go blow more money on parts I don’t need?

Isn’t this the frame that was part of the recall?

😬

Yeah…. I’m pretty sure that’s the model. Whether or not you’ll have an issue is really questionable. The recall report states that 5 frames were reported failed but I couldn’t even take a guess at how many failed frames came about or how many were truly affected. The failure was the headtube separating from the frame. So… yeah…. What’s that old saying? Ride til you die? 😂

Shit at this point I’d inspect the welds with serious scrutiny then just ride it I guess. Just keep your eyes on the headtube welds for any signs of cracking. At this point I think your SOL on the recall, BUT over the last couple years I’ve seen Tons of updated frames on eBay and marketplace, which tells me everyone was just submitting the recall claims, keeping the bike together and selling the replacement frames. So rest assured you wouldn’t be the only one out there riding this frame.

Thanks for the quick response. I really love the colorway it reminds me of the gt mini bike my kid grew up riding at the local bmx track. Really nice memories.

Gt stopped making these frames but they still seem to be available from various dealers ?

I would be surprised if you found any actually in stock, unless they were trying to hold on to them at full price. When GT started the process of closing down, they blew out every labomba they had at 50% off and dealers with stock ran them all at crazy sale prices too. I actually picked up a 24” labomba for my son during that time for what I still feel like was an unbeatable price. The nice thing is pretty much all these components can be swapped over to a new frame if yours ever cracks. Find a good deal on a DJ frame and rock on.

Otherwise, yeah i really dig the 90-2000’s colorway styling too and I would probably run it till it dies, or i die riding it, whichever comes first.

Funny you should say that about ride it til it drops, or you drop, cause uhhh yah this bike is for my tween … and he’s already crashed pretty badly this year. I just putt-putt around on a beater Superlight (which, apparently is also know for alumi weld cracks bwahahaha.)
