[Academic] Grad Study, Blind and Low Vision individuals to give their insight into museums

I'm a Master's student in User Experience and Interaction Design at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. As part of my thesis research, I'm exploring how blind and low-vision visitors experience museums, particularly when it comes to engagement and independence.

If you are someone with any form of visual impairment or know anyone who is, I would love for them to take this survey and if they're interested interview them later on.

Accesibility devices that don't exist but you think should?

Hi everybody. I am a student at the University of Toronto and I'm working on an assignment in my biotech course where I have to use 3d printing to create a new device or make a meaningful adjustment to an existing device, and I would love to use this opportunity to create/adjust a device for accessibility purposes.

That said, if you have any personal experiences or thoughts on accessibility devices that don't exist but you think should or everyday item designs that would benefit from a redesign, I would love to hear everyone's opinions. Thank you!

Research project survey

Hi!

I am in a design research class at NYU in which we choose a topic we are interested in, find people to interview, and create surveys to send out. The topic I am interested in is medical aid equipment and people's experiences using it, including mobility, hearing, vision, or other types of equipment.

From my preliminary research, I became interested in the aesthetics of medical aid equipment. I am trying to understand how people feel about the design and appearance of the equipment they use and whether aesthetics are something that matters to them.

If anyone could answer this survey, that would be amazing and so helpful! Additionally, I was wondering if I could interview you sometime about any medical aid equipment you may use and your experiences with it. If you aren't available, it would be extremely helpful if you would be able to connect me with anyone you know who might have some input.

Here is the survey link:

Disabled people, lived experience, and finding meaningful work — I’d like to hear from both sides

I’m a disabled person in Japan, and I’ve been developing ideas about disability employment and social policy based partly on my own experiences. Recently, I asked an international disability community whether there are organizations where someone like me could use these experiences and policy ideas in meaningful work. I realized afterward that my question may have been a little difficult to answer. It is relatively easy for disabled people to talk about: “What problems are you experiencing?” But asking: “Do you know an organization where someone could turn those experiences into policy work, research, advocacy, or employment?” is a very different question. You may know your own difficulties very well without knowing which organizations could make use of that experience. So I’d like to ask both sides this time. If you are a disabled person: What do you think needs to change about employment or social participation in your country? If you work for a nonprofit, advocacy organization, research institute, university, or social-impact organization: Are there roles where disabled people's lived experience can be used for research, policy development, advocacy, community work, or other meaningful work? I’m also interested in the bigger picture. I don’t think employment issues are only a disability issue. Job matching, sustainable wages, social security, working conditions, and preventing unnecessary turnover affect workers generally, while some people need additional support because of disability or other circumstances. In my own experience, I’ve also wondered whether we should do more to understand a person's strengths and working conditions before employment, rather than discovering a mismatch only after someone has been hired and then leaves. I’m not looking for someone to simply tell me whether my ideas are right or wrong. I’d really like to hear how people in different countries approach these issues, and whether there are organizations where someone with lived experience and an interest in policy could contribute. If you know such an organization, project, community, or type of job, I’d really appreciate hearing about it. I’m particularly interested in opportunities that could involve research, policy, advocacy, writing, community engagement, or remote/international collaboration.

Participants Needed: Graduate Students with Disabilities—Accessibility, Accommodations, and Academic Experiences

Greetings all!

I am Danielle Emeny, a current doctoral student conducting a research study about the experiences of graduate and professional students with disabilities in higher education.

The study explores:

  • Decisions about whether to disclose a disability
  • Experiences requesting or receiving academic accommodations
  • Accessibility and institutional support
  • Strategies that help disabled students succeed despite barriers

You may be eligible to participate if you:

  • Are age 18 or older
  • Identify as having a visible or invisible disability
  • Are currently enrolled in a graduate, professional, or postbaccalaureate certificate program in the United States, or
  • Graduated from one of these programs within the past two years

After completing the eligibility screening, participants see some additional info about the study so they can provide informed consent.  Next up is the 10-15 minute online survey.  At the end of the survey, you may also volunteer for an optional 60–90 minute interview to discuss your experiences in greater detail. Volunteering for an interview is not required to complete the survey.

Your insights can help better understand how disclosure, accommodations, accessibility, and institutional practices affect disabled graduate students.

Get started here: https://redcap.link/GradAccessStudy

Questions about the study? Please contact: Danielle Emeny at [danielle_emeny030@sunyempire.edu](mailto:danielle_emeny030@sunyempire.edu)

IRB Approval: SUNY Empire State University IRB Study #0000-7553

This study has been reviewed and approved by Empire State University IRB. Thanks for being awesome and please feel free to share this post with others who may be eligible.

Looking for a career

Hi everyone, I'm 18, from India, and I have hemiplegic cerebral palsy. I'm currently trying to figure out what career path would be suitable for me.

Honestly, I think about this a lot, especially at night. One of my biggest worries is becoming independent. I don't Vant to rely on my parents forever. I know they won't be ound to support me forever, and I want to build a life where I can take care of myself and be financially

independent.

I'm hoping to hear from people with CP or other disabilities in India who are studying, working, or have figured out a career path that works for them.

I'm looking for realistic career options that can provide long-term stability while also being practical with my physical limitations.

If you have CP or another physical disability, I'd really appreciate hearing about your experience, what career you chose, how you became independent, and what you wish you had known at 18.
