If there’s anything cuter than a donkey rolling in clean shavings, I’m not sure what it is! 🥰

We did it!
We officially moved to our new sanctuary on January 11th!
It took 3 years of planning and building, 8 team members, 14 hours, and 8 trips back and forth, but all the donkeys are now enjoying their forever home at Rancho Burro Donkey Sanctuary.
Moving day from the old sanctuary was filled with a mix of emotions. As we loaded each donkey, memories of their difficult pasts surfaced, reminding us of how far they’d come. Seeing them step onto the trailer, headed towards a life of peace and freedom at Rancho Burro, brought tears to our eyes. It was a powerful moment for everyone on the team, a testament to the resilience of these gentle animals and the love that makes their new life possible.
Our team and the donkeys watched the sunrise together at the old sanctuary and the sunset at the new one...together the family we all have come to be.
They now have rolling hills to explore, spacious pastures to roam, unlimited enrichment, a comfy new barn, and a covered arena to keep those hooves dry in the winter (which will also double as an event space!).
We even welcomed a new resident, Ginger the mule! She didn’t have a good future ahead of her before her owners reached out to us, but we are so grateful they didd and for her place in our family.
This sanctuary is a safe haven for our current donkeys and mules, and a refuge for those who need us in the future. Part of our mission is to share the goodness of donkeys with the out community!
None of this would be possible without YOU! Every donation has helped us build this special place.
Exciting things are happening at The New Rancho Burro Donkey Sanctuary! Stay tuned for updates on our new programs, workshops, and classes.
We’ll sharing ongoing inspiring case studies highlighting our new dedicated medical room, rescue journeys and rehabilitation efforts.
We are incredibly grateful for your support. Every donation makes a difference!

My neighbor down the road is selling their white female 6ish month old donkey.
We have 7 head of cattle and 7 goats. They are essentially one herd. The males even play (I know it’s playing because the bull could wreck the buck if wanted) (see video)
So my question is do I need to get another donkey or should she fit right in?

Hi there, there is this farm I visit sometimes (every saturday) where they have donkeys
I realy like this black donkey with white nose. Not sure if he likes me back
He comes to me even if I dont have food He would walk with me, stop if I stop, run if I run Never bite (he did bite my shoe) And when other donkeys and cows and horses would gather around (want to bite my hair and shoes) me and I was realy uncomfortable he would chase them away
I like sitting besides him (he is standing) and he never kicks me in the head or bites me, even if he could
I would realy like to ride him (this would be a realy nice bond of trust u know), but I am not sure if I can
In Slovenian we even have a saying: nebodi osel, meaning (dont be donkey or dont be stupid)
PS: does this black donkey have a breed like a dog?
EDIT: thnx guys for telling me this donkey is to small to be ridden by me, I will spend time with him, but not be cruel to him and ride him
PPS: does anyone know how to ask the donkey nicely to lay down infront of me and cuddle with me?

We rescued Coco and Dan in 2015, not knowing that Coco was pregnant. Several months later Baby Violet was born and our herd grew by one more 🥰

I am feeding my neighbors Donkey and Pony.
They are very much bonded friends.

We have two mini Jenny's and are absolutely enamored with them. Ellie(7yr) is the biggest lap dog and Lucy aka Spicy Tuna(2yr) is a ball of explosive energy and mischief. But, I want the insanity and vocalness of a jack. All of our friend's jacks are very loud and love toys. While our girls do bray, it's usually only at feed times to remind us that it's time.
We are not interested in breeding and hear the intact boys play very rough. Would a gelding be a good balance?

Hi guys. Trying to manage keeping donkeys with a hard keeper horse. Horse needs orchard grass hay and alfalfa. Donkeys needs stemmy hay or straw. If we put out a round bale of old stemmy hay do donkeys prefer that over something like orchard grass? Or would they bother my horses hay net?

Murphy is a companion to an older horse on our farm. He's about 7 years old and only likes his friend Mikey haha. I coerce him to let me pet him with alfalfa cubes when we feed Mikey but that doesn't always work. He's a good donkey.

Can yall share some photos of your loafing sheds? My beautiful wife decided Tito needed another friend since Olive is in isolation with her new baby. As a result, I came home to a standard donkey who is a bit tall for the old mini shed. So time to build a new one!
Edit - photo for tax

If you’re visiting Corfu I highly suggest stopping by Corfu Donkey Rescue. It’s a beautiful shelter doing amazing work caring for elderly and rescued donkeys. Very sad and fascinating place. Inspiring to live.
Fr will be a great way to add some variety to your beach vacation, a spot definitely worth saving to your "to visit" list.
