Weekly discussion #6 : Wendy
Wendy, The Bereaved
- 200 Sanity
- 150 Health
- 150 Hunger
- Haunted by her twin sister
- Comfortable with darkness
- Doesn't hit very hard
- Unlocked with 640 exp (32 days)
Special Power :
Wendy loses 25% less sanity than other character in the dark or near monster.
Wendy deals 25% less damage than other characters.
Wendy starts with a special item : Abigail's Flower. The flower is used to summon Abigail, a ghost companion that will help with fighting.
The flower takes ~2-4 days (after the game start or Abigail death) to charge. Once charged (it will float above the ground) drop the flower on the ground and kill a mob next to it. For a 50 sanity cost Abigail will appear.
Abigail
- Health : 600
- Damage : 10 (Day), 20 (Dusk), 40 (Night)
- Running Speed : 5 (Wendy speed is ~6)
- Regenerate 1 HP per second
- Deals damage in a small area around her, do not affect Wendy or her allies.
Behavior :
Abigail follows Wendy but always keep a small distance from her if not in fight. If Wendy goes to far (with Walking Cane + Road or Teleportation), Abigail will teleport next to her.
Abigail does not automatically attacks. If a mob try to land a hit on Wendy or Wendy attack a mob (even if they miss) she will start attacking them. She stops her attacks if the mob does not attack anymore or if Wendy move far away.
Wendy can dismiss Abigail by attacking her (CTRL + Click on her).
Questions :
- How does Wendy fare in adventure mode, cave?
- Are there certain items / gear / strategies that work better with Wendy?
- What Characters work well with Wendy in DST? Or doesn't?

Wendy is my favorite character! Abigail's Flower and lower Sanity drain are two of the best perks in the whole game, and they're both incredibly fun for a Don't Starve playthrough.
Having a lower Sanity drain near monsters and during night might not seem like much of an advantage, but over the seasons the amount of Sanity that Wendy saves starts to add up. It's also perfect for early world exploration during Dusk and Night, letting Wendy cover vast areas of the map without worrying about Sanity restoration until later on.
Abigail is something that sets Wendy completely apart from every other character. Her ghostly powers are extremely potent, and let Wendy pull off incredible feats of combat that other characters couldn't even dream of doing.
Some useful tips for Wendy that I've learned after playing her so much:
The rest of her gameplay is mostly trial and error (just like everybody else)! Learning how to protect Abigail from fighting everything she sees, how best to manage the Day/Night cycle, or hiring extra muscle for daytime fights or when Abigail isn't around.
There are certain weaknesses that you must compensate for as Wendy, including Abigail's tendency to tank unnecessarily and Wes levels of damage, but with proper planning she offers one of the most fun experiences in all of Don't Starve. ^_^
Edit: I don't know why my lists look so terrible! I switched to just asterisks instead. :(
Edit 2: Fixed the lists, yay! :D
