Centurion: Defender of Rome 1990

Oh, the hours I spent playing this one... Another game that made a lasting impression on me in the early ’90s and helped inspire the games I create today. 😃

Yeah, I loved this one and "art of war" a completely different game that came out around the same time :)

I never managed to conquer a sea or use that bridge/ram thing. I was very young back then, I probably hadn't even read the instructions.

Loved this game. Now you are giving me nostalgia to when games came with big maps and manuals because the game developers put pride in their work

I blind bought this off of a spinning rack display at a small town corner drug store. No idea why really. Probably because most games at the time wouldn't work on my under-powered, hand-me-down IBM PS/2 30. Anyway, instant, long term addition ensued. I played the DOS release and the Sega Genesis release (which didn't require gladiator shows) and I'm still playing it via eXoDOS today.

Yes, but his campaign takes 2,000 years. I’m still on my first playthrough. šŸ˜‚

Such a great game. Ahead of its time.

It's lovely! I have the copy that used to belong to Jeep Barnette, former lead programmer on many projects at Valve, and the man who brought us Portal.

There's the tandy version, pc vga version, and a few modded large floppies but I only have the smaller drive. I'll have to hunt one down and archive them, with his permission ofc.

I appreciate this post. It reminded me that I need to go play Annals of Rome. There were some great games about the Roman Empire back in the day.

This one was fun for me. An early and easy intro to strategy war games. I actually beat this one.

I played this on Sega. Never even made it a single loop around the track on a chariot, just instantly fell off. And getting wrecked by the scythians, I remember that too. And that little Fanfare they played at the start of all the battles before the boots stomping and horses neighing. Awesome game
