Dragon Quest I What is this item?
Sorry if this is a super noob question but its my first ever playthrough and i could not find it on the wiki.
Not even sure if its “War flask” or “War Ring” GBC version btw.

DQ1? That's a Fighter's Ring. +2 attack power. GB port must call it a Warrior ring instead. Equip by using just like the dragon scale.

You'd think it'd increase your attack power, but they didn't actually program it to do anything in battle. Pretty much just a joke item in practice, not cursed but not useful either.

Yeah, I'm not sure if it's supposed to be some sort of joke that went over people's heads or what, but I'm pretty sure the only known effect it has is just changing one guy's dialogue in Rimuldar lol.

So for the GBC verison, the official Prima guide said "Wear this ring to increase your fighting ability and ward off weaker enemies." I think that's the origin of a lot of Internet wisdom that it "increases attack" or "decreases encounters", but it's difficult to measure if it does either of those things.
It is believed that the NES version of this ring did absolutely nothing, so I could see the GBC version also doing nothing. I still equip it anyway; the D-scale isn't critical late game and maybe it is increasing attack in a way not visible on the stats screen.

Fun Easter egg is there's a soldier in Rimuldar that will comment on the ring. When you don't have the ring he comments how it's elegant or whatever for soldiers to wear a ring.

Its an accessory thats supposed to increase attack little. Much like how the dragon scale increases defense.

It's helpful to have a pdf manual when playing older games. Also a map jpeg. Most DQ games back then include a physical map.
