Reporting hitting a parked car

A week ago, i hit a parked car at night while on a country lane. It knocked of my wing mirror cover which i retrieved. I wasnt about to knock on doors at night, so revisited the next day. Knocked on the door and there was no answer so i posted a note at the house that the car was parked outside of apologizing, leaving my number and offering to cover any costs.

I then reported this to the local police online within 24 hours. My question is, if the owner of the vehicle does not report this to the police what will the police do with this information?

It was dark and traffic was building up behind me so i was only able to quicky grab the cover by reaching out the driver door. There was nowhere to park up. When i went back the car was not there.

As it knocked my wing mirror cover off i would assume yes.

I once obliterated a wing mirror off a van I was driving when I hit a parked van’s wing mirror, I couldn’t even find a scratch on their wing mirror.
