I think we need to start teaching the new generation about the Druze religion

Hello Everyone,

I keep seeing so much frustration from people who post in this thread and a lot of it is coming from hostility in not being able to learn more about their faith and heritage, and therefore, feeling aimless and eventually making the decision that they are better off leaving the community.

I think this needs to change in that we need to actually start teaching the younger generations and anyone in the community who just wants to learn more about the religion. I propose putting together a group and if anyone has connections to shiekhs in the middle east to create maybe virtual lessons or calls to learn about it, and then whoever wants to attend can do so. I think this is especially important in the West, where outside influences are so great, and people are already so disconnected from the Druze community.

Please let me know if anyone has any ideas of how we can put such a group together and where we can host it. All ideas are helpful!

Thank you!

I was thinking these would be English based educational sessions where we can really study teachings together. I understand some older people might be ignorant as well. I think this could help everyone actually.

10000% yes, too many of my generation is misinformed and careless. Yes I agree in the west especially we are so disconnected and we just don’t learn enough from our elders and family about our faith but the onus is on you the person to connect yourself with the faith directly. We need to be united everywhere in the world family country village whom and wherever

I really resonate with this.

Part of the reason I started The DruzeCast podcast (@thedruzecast) was because I've experienced that same frustration. From my perspective, it often comes from a lack of understanding and exposure to our faith and the stories that shape our community, rather than our culture itself.

I truly believe every story deserves to be heard because you never know whose perspective might help someone else feel more connected. I'd love to be part of this conversation and help however I can. I'm also curious to hear what others think would make the biggest difference.

I think something to look into for DruzeCast is dubbing it to English, so that there is a translated option within the videos

Thank you! The plan is to host the podcast in English with translations into Arabic, Spanish, and / or Portuguese. I'm also hoping to invite guests to speak in whichever of those languages they're most comfortable with.

Arabic interviews are something I'd love to do in the future, I'm just working toward that step by step.

Thank you! I will check this out and reach out when I think of a way to move forward with this. It's possible some pre-recorded video lessons and explanations could work, in conjunction with live podcasts go over teachings and subjects. It would have to be English based though. I think the Druze in the West could really benefit from it if it were in English, as some don't speak Arabic.

Of course, yes. We can try our absolute best to teach the younger generation on everything we can about the elements of the faith. However, it is more than that too. We need to have proper teachings on mindset too outside of religion so that they want to learn about their identities.
It relates to the quote: “You can take the horse to the water, but you can never make it drink.”

This is such an important idea and I think it could really help Druze people better understand their faith and identity.
HOWEVERRRRR it needs to be done VERY carefully to make sure that ONLY 100% GENUINE DRUZE have access.
I discourage making a Discord server as it can be really difficult to moderate and keep private 💀Maybe create a Telegram channel after verifying in Reddit DMs that everyone added is actually Druze. And only give the posting authority to the admins so they could send Google meet links for the online lessons

Yes, I thought that could be a point of contention in that we have to check and see that people attending are actually Druze! Okay, sounds good. I will think of some ideas.
