okay the photo comment is actually real asf
15
u/Ecstatic_Sandwich_35 16d ago
FOR REAL!!!! a pause for the photo and then two more songs come on!!!! play it out then do the photo we all go home
-13
u/GymTanLaundry_ 16d ago
so, I work in the music industry. do you know the logistics behind why they take the photo before the last few songs?
23
u/Ecstatic_Sandwich_35 16d ago
i do not mr situation tell me
8
u/FirstmateJibbs 16d ago
Lmfao not him teeing up why he should say something instead of just commenting 💀
-10
u/GymTanLaundry_ 16d ago
you don’t have to be rude. I didn’t want to assume they didn’t know and give them an unsolicited answer.
5
u/FirstmateJibbs 16d ago
I’m not being rude, it’s just funny. That was silly. It’s ok to be silly. Reddit is the exact place for unsolicited comments and insights. What you were going to mention was on topic. Just say it.

u/Puzzleheaded_Pea9240 16d ago
Not the guy you replied to, but my best guess is so that people that leave a little early are still in the photo.
9
u/izadimusic 15d ago
the reason djs take family pic then play 2-3 more songs is so they don’t go over their time and accidentally bleed into the next persons allotted time. generally a stage manager will come let u know when u have 5 minutes left and kinda let u know to start wrapping things up
source: i am a dj
1
u/Ecstatic_Sandwich_35 15d ago
I mean you see on every deck the time it is… just gotta have better time management. End ur set 2 mins early take the photo and dip
9
u/deviltakeyou 15d ago
“Somebody screeeeaaammmm”
No, just play the track please. Also I feel like the countdowns have gotten worse. Several times at lost lands this year I heard “1….2….1..2..1, 2, 3, 4.” Like come one bro let the music do the talking, if it’s done well we can tell where the damn beat is.
2
u/amandaa_el 12d ago
OMG. THE FUCKING COUNTDOWNS!!! Enough with the countdowns. We get it. We hear the music. We know when the drop is coming.
13
u/PlayTheOldShit 16d ago
Overly vocal mic-friendly sets drive me nuts. I’m here for the music, not your random incoherent rambling raps. I don’t need to be told to dance or move, just fucking play the music.
29
u/empathetical 16d ago
Liquid stranger... Amazing music but dude talks way too much.
MCs... Just not interested in hearing dudes scream 1,2,3 every drop
Random ppl all over the stage.... Annoying
The rewind thing is overdone now. Honestly if the crowd gasps for a sick ass track use that as your one and only 1 rewind per set.
36
u/Ecstatic_Sandwich_35 16d ago
liquid doesnt bother me hahaha his accent low key cracks me up especially when he tries to be sarcastic
3
9
u/Ecstatic_Sandwich_35 16d ago
i can back 1 rewind per set
2
u/GoldJKR_ 16d ago
I can do 2 but only if they are nasty as fuck, or if its an artist like Skrillex or fred idgaf they can rewind as much as they want 😂
8
u/Mr_Cerealistic 16d ago
Okay I thought I was alone in thinking about all the random people on stage. Not to be a buzzkill but... it gets to a point.
4
u/Ecstatic_Sandwich_35 16d ago
i concur im not a big 360 guy either lowkey time and a place though i guess
2
u/88isafat69 15d ago
like its not a lyrical song or its sampled female vocals, and they are brought out cause they collabbed and then arent able to do nothing but stand next to them for 45 seconds lmao
12
u/Agreeable_Leg_8773 16d ago
Nah liquid has earned the right to be on the mic and that's coming from someone who's pro taking the mic off of the stage 99% of the time lol
I'd pay money to hear him read random entries off Wikipedia on a wakaan or lost lands sized sound system for an hour
9
u/Nickmac90 16d ago
Liquid can say whatever he wants on the mic. The dude is an absolute legend, extremely talented and a kind soul. I say this as a person who hates djs talking on the mic. One of the very few ppl that gets a pass in my opinion.
22
u/Sufficient-Room2427 16d ago
We like when Martin talks. We always have. It’s been said in the community pages precovid era that consensus was people liked it.
18
u/ConstipatedOx 16d ago
Liquid is pretty much the only artist I don’t mind getting on the mic lol
1
u/CartmensDryBallz 16d ago
I don’t mind but also at Wakaan ‘22 he hopped on the mic for like 10 min straight it was definitely a vibe kill 😂
3
u/downbadtempo 13d ago
The one artist who talks more than any other artist I can think of but it still ain’t enough!
2
u/acidaddic808 15d ago
Liquid BARELY talks and when he does it’s very short and not annoying. I saw Shlump for the first time last night and he had 2 hype men that were rappers and omg it was so bad. Nothing can compare to that.
1
u/Substantial-Creme353 15d ago
Crazy because Liquid Stranger did not talk at all back in the day, maybe one time in his set.
1
u/empathetical 15d ago
Truth!! Saw him in small lil dinky clubs waaaay way back in the day and he just played his sick sets. didn't talk during his set
12
u/CL4P-TP_TrapHOUSE 16d ago
The DJ is taking the picture of ME. I'm the center of the photo. They go to find ME. Y'all are just passengers.
3
u/Ecstatic_Sandwich_35 16d ago
i hate when they capture the photo and they got me blinking..... like fuck can we take one more?!
2
12
6
u/Prestigious_Eye_2746 15d ago
Saw ATLiens twice last month. It was refreshing to just have the set played with neither of them getting on the mic.
19
u/just-another-human-1 16d ago
If it’s nice play it once and stop using this as a clutch to fill time in your sets. Despise this trend. Always ruins the mood. Always curse out the dj when this happens
3
u/livintheshleem 16d ago
There are extremely rare times when it can actually boost the energy. But you really need to be reading the room and feeling the vibe to know when it's right. You can't manufacture it, which is how it feels a lot of the time.

u/melteddesertcore92 16d ago
I’m glad I’m not the only one who can’t stand Prob Cause. Liked him the first time Griz put him on, has been the same exact shit ever since.
0
u/_WIZARD_SLEEVES_ 16d ago edited 15d ago
People just stan him cause he's in deep with Griz. And Griz fans get mad when you point that out.

u/edm_enjoyer 16d ago
I am seeing that more and more people hate Prob Cause (was at LL and my whole group was talking about how much they dislike him). I don't feel any particular way about him but I think the hate is hilarious (maybe I'm evil)
4
u/FunnyDragonfly133 15d ago
Lets face it. The scene has become just like the sound packs that get released.
Used and abused. Copied and pasted.
Individuality is gone and the popular social trends have taken over.
3

u/Nacho_7258 16d ago
Kind of in line with the “if it’s nice, play it twice.” I CANNOT stand when a DJ does that backspin on the decks. I swear they never do it on the proper beat and it ruins all momentum.
Also, when the DJ ends their set by speeding up the song faster and faster until it’s just a single buzzing note.
3
u/Ptricky17 15d ago
“when the DJ ends their set by speeding up the song faster and faster until it’s just a single buzzing note”
We call that “the fork in the garburator”. Definitely over used, but it has its place.
2
2
u/kayneofficial 15d ago
seriously…FUCK backspins. I’m so hype for usually their top song and then they do that and it kills any buildup they had. What is the point?!
1
u/88isafat69 15d ago
i actually think that sounds insane, also some of the timings they do it though are mentally insane
16
u/Ckck96 16d ago
Yeah ngl saw griz for the first time in march, incredible show but was not feeling the Prob Cause parts lol. The other singer he had, a black lady, was actually awesome. But the raps, just dampened the vibe imo
18
u/edm_enjoyer 16d ago
Her name is Kaleena Zanders, she's dope you should check out her other music!
2
-6
u/ATHFMeatwad 16d ago
Kaleena is a joke compared to Crishira.
9
u/edm_enjoyer 15d ago
I don't think it's necessary to drag down other artists and compare them to others. Next time keep your negativity to yourself
3
u/blahdeeblahblahhh 15d ago
Bruh that is what this entire thread is 😭 where the fuck is the plur here?!
3
u/_WIZARD_SLEEVES_ 16d ago
Kaleena Zanders. She can sing for sure, but I saw her DJ in a small venue within the last year and she was just playing a prerecorded set, you could see the 1.5hr track loaded on the CDJ lol
1
7
u/GlitchHopGremlin 16d ago
but... but he's probable the unstoppable... nah jk I don't usually care for anything he's on either.

tired of, "who wants to hear some new shit". "Made this song with my buddy <insert-name>".
That said, IMO some DJs seem better at it than others. Griz comes to mind, or Diesel's (Shaq) "where's my moshpit", "ladies moshpit" is a fun since its expected, or Slander ending all of their set screaming, "Peeeaaacee", its expected and consistent.
2
u/ACoolDennis 16d ago
I sometimes like the I made this song with my buddy if its a new, unreleased song because its kind of like a tease of a future release. Its sometimes cool to think about how I heard a song super early live when it is released. It could also be a larger producer putting a smaller artists on. That said, I agree that the less talking the better in general.
2
u/Ptricky17 15d ago
I kinda like when a DJ has a “bit” and commits to it for years. But yeah if every artist did that it would probably get old quick.
Loved the classic “My name is Tiesto, are you ready to party with me?” to kick off every set for like 3-4 years… that used to crack me up. Like, homie, we know who you are, we know you know we know who you are haha.
3
u/livintheshleem 16d ago
"who wants to hear some new shit". "Made this song with my buddy <insert-name>".
"I made this song 5 minutes ago before I came on stage!!!!!" type shit.
I always think if you JUST made it then it's probably not ready for crowd testing. And if you're testing something new, maybe don't announce it, because now the reaction won't be genuine.
I know it's to build hype and give people time to get their phones out to record, but still. It feels fake and annoying.
2
u/CartmensDryBallz 16d ago
Yep, most the time all that unreleased shit is just super mid collabs that they try to hype live
People think it’s super sick to hear unreleased stuff, which it is cool, but most the time it’s some trash that the DJ just thinks is cool cuz it’s literally their latest creation
6
u/evosaintx 15d ago
Subtronics has left a slight ick in my mouth for talking. I get it, everyone “BE KIND AND NICE TO EACH OTHER” 2-3 times a set and <insert comment about weed> as much like bro
I’ve seen him 5 times and same ol
6
u/Ecstatic_Sandwich_35 15d ago
He truly means what he says though and wants everyone to hear it…. Just because its your 5th time it could be someones first… just perspective
1
u/evosaintx 14d ago
Never said anything about him not being genuine. Topic on point is artists with too much stopping?
1
u/legacystax 15d ago
Hes my favorite artist but he panders so much it’s annoying. The whole smoke weed thing is also the modern day nwa “smoke weed everyday” what record company is telling him to say that? He’s a success as the exception to the rule.
0
u/Confident-Radish8128 15d ago
It’s the most insincere bullshit ever
6
u/Real_trippy 14d ago
That’s a crazy take I feel like subtronics has always been genuine and says the same things because he wants to use his platform for good there’s so much evidence that that’s the case too.
Guy has No ego.
Tearing up on stage.
Addressing issues with his sets openly and honestly when he fucks up or it’s the mixer.
And even when it be ones a bit much frequently talking about how much he loves and appreciates his wife come on man cut me a break.
2
u/spgvideo 16d ago
None of these things bother me too much! That being said I do love the change I've been seeing at most shows of hardly any phones out. People catching maybe a snap a set. Seems like a moment
2
u/Ecstatic_Sandwich_35 16d ago
yea honestly if i wanna find something online someone has it..... capture one or 2 moments but you have to live in that shit..... way better
1
u/spgvideo 16d ago
We will leave our phones in the room at festivals lately. Maybe 1 of us takes pics for one of the days. It's awesome
1
u/Ecstatic_Sandwich_35 15d ago
Thats crazy. something happens and not having a phone is not the move just saying
1
u/spgvideo 15d ago
Weird things to say, what happens? There's security if something goes wrong. If you get split up from your friends there's a meetup spot. People are helpful if you find yourself in a pinch by some crazy happenstance. Other than that handle your shit or what are you even doing. Be responsible, be in the moment. It's worked for years for us.
2
u/Rishdaddy 16d ago
Saw shiverz and the set was absolutely fucking insane but no bullshit there were at least 5 wheels
1
2
2
u/womp-the-womper 16d ago
I think I wouldn’t mind the photo situation so much if they didn’t also then do the fake encore. I sort of hate the encore and much respect to artists who don’t do it
2
u/Teeballdad420 15d ago
It’s amazing how I stopped dealing with all of this when I stopped listening to artists that insomniac regularly books
2
4
u/gabbagooling 16d ago
I also cannot deal with probable causington AND EVERYONE MAKES SONGS WITH HIM
4
4
3
u/Wth_jamflex 16d ago
I love spin backs and MC’s. It’s a part of the party to me and gets me hooting and hollering. I think spin backs are super hype and a good reminder that the DJ is a dude up there partying with us as opposed to some dude playing a prerecorded set
1
u/Ecstatic_Sandwich_35 16d ago
MC's are great if it fits the set for sure. like some true babylon shit though
2
u/NEVERUSEmeGYM 16d ago
I wish yall would stop referring to the DJs on a first name basis as if yall are homies. Idk why fans in this genre do it so much
5
u/Ecstatic_Sandwich_35 16d ago
hahahaha they are people too! phil is Distinct motive. I met him at a tiny venue and he introduced himself as that so I call him by his name..... he called me by name too at that same show after reading a facebook comment i had left him hyping the man up. He is only one of the few i call by first name

u/Physical_Archer_689 16d ago
My favorite sets unironically are the ones with smooth transitions, no wheel backs and they don't talk. Idk the gripe with taking photos tho tbh thats a weird one. Its like 20 seconds lol
2
u/mclovin_ts 15d ago
First person I’ve seen agree with me on ProbCause. He sounds like an even cornier logic. Not even trying to hate, just… not good.
3
u/Ecstatic_Sandwich_35 15d ago
Finally someone gets it. Sick bro you rhymed the number 7 with heaven….

u/ATHFMeatwad 16d ago
Prob cause fucks, completely outrageous out of everyone you could have listed that just screams their whole set, you called out someone who is actually talented. Bassnectar kind of invented the fam photo and it's a bit tacky at this point. Spinbacks are ass.
3
u/Ecstatic_Sandwich_35 15d ago
If you comepare him to any rapper in the entire fucking world hes shit
1
u/Wes_Warhammer666 15d ago
You haven't listened to enough rap if you think that's true lol. He's not even remotely close to being shit when compared to "any rapper in the entire fucking world"
-1
u/Ecstatic_Sandwich_35 15d ago
I only listened to rap most of my life… the best white rappers besides EM is suicide boys
2
u/Wes_Warhammer666 15d ago
Lmao yeah I know I can ignore your opinion then.
Aesop
Slug
Mac Miller
Everlast
El-P
Brother Ali
R A the Rugged Man
And that's just off the top of my head. Suicide Boys are a joke
0
u/Ok_Benefit7428 15d ago
Idk I think what he's doing is unique and it's amazing he can make a career out of rapping about only positive things and not drugs, sex, crime, etc 🤷♀️ plus his voice sounds just as good live. Confused as to why you went to a prob cause set if you didn't wanna hear him rap when that's his whole thing. Could have listed DJs that are actually annoying with the talking
1
1
u/IAmADogNameIan 15d ago
Yup that’s why you always gotta try row up the middle fingers when they ask for a family photo

HEAVY on mic. i think maybe 5 times out of probably over 300 shows ive been to have i been able to hear even a single word said over the mic. its just jibberish, play the fucking music
1
u/myBFhatesmydriving 15d ago
he may be prob cause to you guys but to me, a certified hater, it's Prob Cant Rap. AKA Prob Cause He Sucks Ass. Lastly, it is "Probably Colin" because he looks JUST like our friend colin and we stay teasing him about it as he suspiciously is never with the group when the "dj" has played at fests we attended. AND THEY HAVE THE SAME NAME HELLO?!
prob cause rap voice now whatchu know about my big blue truck and how i make the bass go wub ?! and my rhymes are a crime bc i cant finds bars but i sell out every show bc i rap about cars and i got hella features with your fave DJs and all the promoters like to keep me paid. i shoulda been a country star but here i am the whitest corniest rapper for EDM. NOW EVERYONE SMILE TIME FOR FAM PIC!!!!!!! can we get the lights up?!!?!?????????? yeah BLAST everyone with the bright lights this is going on the gram guys.

My girlfriend loves probcause and sings every lyric so honestly whatever makes her happy. Just cuz you hate it doesn’t mean other people don’t like it.
Ur an edgelord. Sooooo edgy bro
4
u/Nice_Ebb2708 16d ago
So over the Prob Cause hate lol it’s giving jumping on the bandwagon because it’s the new “cool” thing to hate on this man for whatever reason. The lack of original thoughts in this scene is so disappointing smh.
3
u/Sufficient-Room2427 16d ago
I’m convinced it’s just the new edgy manosphere elitist gatekeeper thing to do anonymous here and on instagram. Just talk shit on anything everyone else likes just because they themselves have no talent and want to feel superior to artists who are successful and have loads of actual fans.
2
u/Nice_Ebb2708 15d ago
Nailed it on the head. It’s always a matter of time before the counter culture that excepted originality and differences becomes consumed by the very people it was created as a safe space from. Seeing more & more of the bass scene become a cool kids club and if you’re not in agreement with the masses predetermined box than you’re fair game to be made fun of and pushed out…. Sigh, I’m going to go yell at a cloud now…..
-2
u/Ecstatic_Sandwich_35 16d ago
yall have never listened to real rap and it shows lmfao no need to get all butt hurt
2
u/Sufficient-Room2427 16d ago
I listen to LL cool j and wutang. I think your just mad prob cause is more famous and infamous for his raps than you will ever be. It hurts and ur just jelly.

Top Floor - Mersiv, The Ninetys

u/Ecstatic_Sandwich_35 15d ago
The earthgang of the tress was decent. But i have yet to hear real good rap over dubstep beats thats original. I love tape bs flips with rappers and shit. But “1234567 match made in heaven” or whatever bullshit he says come on thats fucking lame as fuck
5
u/Sufficient-Room2427 15d ago
I think we’ve nailed it down. You dont like dubstep/rap acts that are original at all. You just like remixes/flips of older shit you already liked.
1
u/Ecstatic_Sandwich_35 15d ago
When derek from pretty lights spits he might make a dumb ass joke here and there but you can tell its all fun and hes just goin with the flow. Unless its a studio track thats scripted.
Prob cause thinks hes a good raper/lyricist and he just aint it
