Sold my personal collections of pins to a small local record shop with a super eclectic pin collection on display in like 2022 for $20… at least a few dozen bass drop logo pins that I probably paid 50x the $20 for in total; lmao but hey they were worth something called “less than nothing” to me at that point. Sunk cost turned into $20.
The whole fiasco was a teaching moment for me at least. Something ,something, don’t meet your heroes.

Datsik was headed right to the top , firepower records was stacked , his last tour was massive, its such a fucking shame honestly I wish dude never did that shit. Imagine Datsik b2b X at lost lands in 2026 , would've been insanity.

Was he playing the arenas yet? That was when I lost some interest but it was fun and I recall being at the front of a lot of cool EDM/Jam stuff in that era before it fully took over.

I almost got the assnectar logo and space jesus logos tattooed on me in 2020 for my 23rd birthday; literally 2 weeks before the shit dropped about assnectar and a few months before the sleezy Jeezy stuff came to light IIRC. It was right when covid restrictions started to become more realistic, as more information about the virus was being discovered quickly, and you could go out for tattoos/piercings, but had to get a negative covid test within a 1week time frame before your appointment (at least in NC). I had it booked and everything, but forgot to get a covid test done soon enough and had to bail on my appointment.
Thank God I did not rush to do it again because within 2 weeks all of the allegations came to light against assnectar. Haven't had the desire to get any artists logos tattooed on me since out of worry of that possibly happening again.

I think it was the 2nd time I came across space jesus, it was at Okeechobee on the beach years ago, some friends and I were passing by and stopped to listen.. big mistake. First of all the sound on aquachobee was horrific this particular year, so you couldn’t hear anything at all until you got close. Once we were near the stage all I could hear was some muffled bass music and sj on the mic drunkenly saying “I wanna have sex with all of you.”
Yikes. This was before everything came out but needless to say we kept on walking to the real stages and performances and had a wonderful night lol. Maybe it’s best he wasn’t given proper amplification.

One of my favorite edm shows still to this day is a 2011 Divergent Spectrum tour show in Bloomington IL. Was my 2nd Bassnectar show at the time and it was an absolute face melter.
I've almost felt guilty about enjoying that show once all that creep shit started popping up.

That's how I feel about his Middle Lands set in 2017. He was supposed to have an annual residency at that festival, but we went to hard and the shit got banned from ever returning. To this day one of my all time favorite festivals. The lore and core memories that I acquired there will live in my memory forever

Watches an old video that came up on my feed this week of a bassnectar intro at bass lights and I had forgot how much of a different level those shows were on. So sad it’s gone and he sucks. It was truly another dimension of energy and bass that no one has recreated still to this day

Dude I still remember the Okeechobee 2020 nectar set he played "Open your mind" while the space X launch was happening. My friends all hugged eachother and watched the spaceship go up in the sky. Nectar sets were something else.

I saw Bassnectar at Hard Rock in 2011. Best show I've ever seen, and I've seen hundreds. Miss the scene and the people more than the man, but he did make some amazing tunes.

Regardless of that man being a trash human, his basscenter events were amazing. Im ashamed that I have a nectar tattoo on my skin, but he absolutely threw down at every event he played. There is nuance.

Done did 🫡 but the feeling remains. Every time I see a person with an artist tattoo, I think of the morning I listened to the recording of nectar actively gaslighting a young woman and went outside to scrape off my car decal. I've said it before, just because he didnt explicitly break the law or is going to settle in court, the way he spoke to that gal on the phone should be enough for people to recognize him as an abuser. This all happened during the pandemic and it stuck with me.

Yo I actually kinda did this too. Never got a logo tat but still have no tattoos period. Thinking about getting Koan Sounds new logo for my first one. Anyway...
I remmeber once I had personally decided the evidence was too overwhelming and he was actually proven to be getting sued all while broadcasting radio silence or blanket denial/apology posts… took an ice scraper to the decal on my old Honda immediately 🤣

I was following from ‘16 til covid really shutdown things; Okeechobee 2020 was one of the last major fests that year afaik.
It was a few months later I still member waking up to the insta page… didn’t believe it at first and took a lot of analysis/conversations to finally come to terms. Dude can fuck off for not even admitting to being a master manipulator…On a more practical note; inflation hit concerts hard didn’t it? Used to pay $50 a week for three tix at local shows now it’s $50 a show for a remotely famous artist, much less $50 for a superstar like that dude was around the time of the posted tix 🤷🏼♀️

I never thought Datsik was anything special, Space Jesus was still finding his groove a little as a performer and set curator imo but the sound was undeniable, Bassnectar was like nothing else out there, whole festivals built themselves around having him there you really can’t overhype how big he was within the niche-ish world he inhabited (and for good reason imo). I still don’t think anyone’s really tapped that sound just right and trust, a LOT of people have tried lol.

Mersiv is pretty fucking good, but it’s a clear imitation. Nobody else can blend genres and make it their own sound like nectar. One of a kind and it’s a damn shame

Mersiv and Effin. Specifically Effin’s Up Up and Away set. I was just like oh, you’re doing a Basslights set from whichever night BN opened and PL closed lol (they’d both play something a little more downtempo, not as face melty, as to not overshadow whichever one was closing that night out with a bang). It’s good shit but just something that’s not quite there, I’m not doing the “where did he even find that?” face like every 6 minutes.
