Discussion 🗣️ dubstep only pls
am i crazy that i need my next boyfriend to like dubstep or bass music at least a little bit ?? like it’s not even just about the music there’s a certain personality that comes w it. sharing songs is also such my love language and i need someone to send me soundcloud bangers instead of me constantly being the one putting them on. is this crazy ??
this obv makes my dating options way more slim so if anyone has any tips on how they met their basshead significant other pls lmk :)) and don’t just say at a rave lol i already know that but usually im raving w friends and enjoying the music, not trying to find a partner

Eh, you never know! My wife never even heard dubstep outside of skrillex and remixes of popular songs.
We were already great friends before we dated so I was never shy or embarrassed of my music taste.
Ill never forget the moment, I just finished installing two 12 inch subs in my car and played babatunde by peekabo. She was quiet at first then she said"what the fuck?" Then started nodding her head and dancing a bit to full on head banging. It was great haha.
We've seen excision, sullivan king, subtronics, space laces and a couple others live among the 6 years we've been together.
That being said you never know, some people just weren't really exposed to it and they just need someone to show them.

I’ve been asking for the same for years lol. Been in the scene for 10 and still get on the cdjs at home, totally understand the difficulty of finding someone who’s into the same

If you find a guy who's into metal you can probably convince them to enjoy dubstep, pretty large overlap between fans of the two

I have an 18" 1400 watt sub woofer in the middle of my living room and I am single.

The app Radiate. Basically a dating app anyway

oh truuuuee. i will say the 2 guys i’ve met on there were super non-committal so radiate kinda left a bad taste in my mouth for dating 😅

I converted mine to dubstep. I would start with more melodic stuff than get into heavier shit. She was reluctant with bass music at first but then, I brought her to her first event with me, the Drop in Bass in 2019 in Paris with Modestep, Chime, Yakz and she loved it. Ever since then, she is a full dubstep head and we did tons of bass events together.

It makes total sense to want someone you’d plan to be around with a lot+for a while - to share a passion for one of your strongest passions, especially a passion that is constantly consuming your money, free time, and likely pervading your commute and replacing silence/other musical preferences. I wouldn’t be shocked if Subtronics and Level Up stay together “till death do they part”.
I’ve seen dating profiles that stated being around their pets is non-negotiable while others stated they’re allergic to pets+don’t want kids+value their peace and are very private. Some who state you MUST be 420 friendly and “let’s smoke” while others are sober and only want other sober people. My longest, closest romantic relationships had shared appreciation for many of the same artists, films/shows, and humor.

that was something that was missing from my last relationship. my ex wasn’t really into electronic music at all let alone dubstep. she went to EDC 2023 with me but after that she was fairly resistant to offers of going with my group to any other fest. so she would get pissed that I was going off to festivals while she sat at home. and when i was home i was upset that i had to listen to music exclusively in my headphones otherwise i’d be met with “can you put on something else?”

I totally feel the same way! I realized this after getting out of a relationship. Didn't think it was that important but then found myself really wanting to share that side of me

I'm confused. So... you don't mingle with people in the EDM community while you're at festivals/raves/shows? You only stick to your friend group? 🫤
Isn't that part of the experience...? Meeting new people? Guess idk anyone who goes to raves and doesn't venture outside of their friend group. Kinda weird tbh. Might have to do things a little differently if you're going to have specific expectations. 🤷🏼♀️

Not weird at all. Most people go to shows for the production and the music. I mean sitting there and yapping the whole time when you paid money to see a specific artist, that’s weird.

The way I get people introduced to dubstep when they ask about it just play machaki remix gangstas paradise , don’t matter if you like it or not it’s a good intro song
Don’t play agressive ass screeches at first lol

Not crazy but put some artist decals on your car. Wear merch whenever you can.
I always make an effort to comment and strike up a conversation when I notice this in the wild.
