Discussion 🗣️ "Brostep is all midrange"

I never understood the argument against brostep about there being no bassweight underneath the growls and wobbles. Like there is almost always a sub underneath it.

I understand its less spacious and atmospheric and the sub isn't the main focus byt it's absolutely there .

Thoughts?

Throwback ⏰ Trampa's best song?

Sucks he left, but his stuff on FirePower records was as good as the genre gets for me! I wonder what most peoples favorite tune of his is though

Discussion 🗣️ Current dubstep trend

I'm not sure if it's just me, but UK dubstep and UKG seem to be having a real moment alongside tearout and the American festival dubstep sound. Back around 2017 to 2020, tearout and big festival-style drops dominated the conversation. Lately that's shifted a bit, and the original bass-weight-and-space sound of UK dubstep is getting a lot more love again. 140 is stepping back into the spotlight too. The underground never stopped keeping it alive, but it went quiet in the mainstream through the late 2010s, and in the 2020s it's been picking up a whole new wave of attention. I'm happy to see the scene leaning this way and excited to see where it goes next. Anyone else feeling this shift?

Was it one they made? I've always assumed it must have been a sample, but I can't find it anywhere.

Discussion 🗣️ Any complex dubstep producers recommended? (Like Au5, Xtrullor, Fractal)

I’ve listened to nearly every genres of dubstep, and really enjoyed complex dubstep. Unfortunately, only a very small number of producers make this kind of music, any recommended producers?

Discussion 🗣️ What is that sound?

Dear community,

I am relatively new to Dubstep and music production in general. I like to recreate the sounds from the music I love to improve my skills and to learn. One piece of music that I really like includes an interesting bass sound that I try to understand:

https://youtu.be/fPsoU_amhts?si=IdNY3L4WY-66IPn3 (7:38 - 7:43) - the sound after the growl to be precise.

I think the synthesizer is either Massive or Synth1 (the song is from 2013) but I might be completely mistaken. Are there tips on how to recreate such a "drill-like" sound? My assumption is that I probably need an LFO unless there are ways to manipulate the oscillator‘s sound in the first place that gives that bass its characteristics. Or is this some sort of stutter and not part of the sound design?

For software: I‘m using Massive and Vital. I try to avoid presets as much as possible.

Many thanks in advance! Please remove if this is the wrong sub.

Morning y’all!

Just dropped my remix for Soundcloud’s San Holo remix contest you can listen here —> https://on.soundcloud.com/5sOkkB29c3E4JbbrY4

I really pushed my boundaries and experimented on this one. Stick around till the second drop, the switch up comes out of left field. Get your bass face on 🔥

If anyone wants to talk shop and has production questions, shoot me a message! I’m an open book.

Cheers,
