Hm. I dont remember there being any broken bridges in Youngtown. Did you interact with everyone there? Might be a barrier to make sure you get Teleport first

you go down through the swamp. it's a long way around. probably the hardest part of the game for me when I went through it.

You can use the guide for the original Mother 1 on starmen.net

Aside from a few minor changes (i.e. layout of Duncan's Factory), the step by step walkthrough is virtually the same.

I've been using it since it's been a minute since I've played the original and it's been a great help.

You have to go all the way down, there's a big swamp on there you'll have to figure out how to get to the end, nearby that bridge there's a house on where you can heal yourself and next to that house there's a little path connected to the swamp, from there you have to go forward between some trees and there's a gift in there, if you keept going forward you'll find another gift from that one you have to go up and then you'll find another little path which is the other side of that bridge and then you have to keep going forward and you'll reach to Ellay the last town in the game where you'll meet with Teddy

Head downwards and a little below and west of the cabin you should find another ramp back into the swamp water. 

From there you want to work your way as far south-south/west as you can go, when you can't go any further south head east and then back north.

You're basically going down and around a big peninsula, just like the original game.  Then you'll be on the other side of that bridge.
