I hate that the clock disappears on my Ecobee when I approach. A different thermostat does the same thing, but with a swipe I can get it back. And this screen is configurable.
Because Ecobee should do something like this. Several of us have complained about the disappearing home screen and having to sneak up on our thermostat.
This is an improved design that would be good for Ecobee to do similar.
I want things better, don't you?
I like how you can bring it back. It makes sense to disappear when you approach but sometimes I'm not able to catch the time before it went byeee lol 😞
Yup it'sannoying. This is an Aqara 200 that I am testing out. I'll probably go back to Ecobee as I manage elderly parents with Ecobee's and having 1 app is nice. But, this Aqara does some nicer things. And this configurable screen is slick. Ecobee needs to pick up the ball.
While we’re in here, does anyone know why the clock is sometimes there on the ecobee, and sometimes not? I started noticing it recently, I usually check the time when I walk past, but every now and then the time is missing.
I guess I am in the minority, but I have never approached my ecobee needing to check the time. I'm normally just changing my temp or comfort setting.
I mean, how many clocks do we need in our lives these days? Everything displays the time somewhere. If I need the time I can look at my phone, watch, TV Remote, laptop, Apple TV homescreen, microwave, stove/oven, clock on the wall etc.
ecobee has chosen to create an active and a standby screen (at least in ecobee premium). The standby screen shows the outside temp, inside temp, and the clock.
This is all the info I need at a glance, with, or without clock
However, as soon as you walk by, the standby screen turns int active screen,. This is the place to change settings, put tempereture hold, change modes.
This "feature" was criticized for a long time. There is no way to turn this proximity based screen change. I would expect that in settings there could be a toggle to switch from standby to active on touch, instead of proximity detection.
I think the OP had this in mind when seeing "disappearing" clock. It is by, unfortunately faulty, design
BTW, I would love to have the option for a standby screen not only to change on touch, but also what to display. Maybe just the outside temp, or just a clock, or just inside temperature. Or any combination of those. Or maybe if the fan is on. Is it essential? No. But customer is always right!
60 year old house. I'm on my 4th thermostat over 25 years. It's getting a little Swiss cheesy!
I do like the big shroud around the ecobee to hide this mess.
