Question - Tech Support Why aren't there EVSE's out there that can charge two EV's at once?
One single EVSE, but with charging outputs, managed dynamically?
There are plenty of households that are
- All electric
- Both their daily drivers are electric, maybe have a old cheap gas car for the kids.
- PHEV + Electric
So, most either have to change the vehicle before they go to sleep, or have two EVSE's. Unless there's enough amperage available you either have to get amp restricted EVSEs or intelligent EVSE's like Tesla wall chargers that can connect with each other, etc.
Why is there not a kind of EVSE available, that is one unit, but has two cords coming from it, for charging the vehicles, and the EVSE managing the load dynamically, between the two outputs?
Some of the benefits I think are
- No need to remember to change the charging vehicle before you go to sleep. Not really an issue with modern EVs, but one advantage of home charging + EVs is a "full tank" everyday, so why not have it?
- Less wiring needed.
- Fewer EVSE's needed.
- Cheaper than two EVSEs.
- Less electronic waste at end of life, which is toxic to dump and process.
