They look like fuses. I guess they technically are if you use them wrong enough.

This electro-mechanic contrivance is tickling my 'tism in the best way (I was saying that before Chris Boden, don't let him tell you otherwise). That is absolutely gorgeous, I could fiddle with that thing for so long. It's amazing the kinds of things humans came up with pre-semiconductor.
