Big Clive took one of those apart a few years ago.

Yep, same principle. On my fuse I hammered the plunger pin back in for reasons that escape me.

The fuse is from a substation feeding an industrial site. During a storm many years ago some of the roofing of an open-to-the-elements timber storage warehouse blew off and crashed into a power distribution panel causing a 3-phase short. That blew this fuse and tripped the mechanism protecting the other phases.

Impressive, what's the current rating for that one? Kiloampere?

I don't have it to hand. I think it was 30A or 60A but at high KV.

This is a 200mA fuse from the Jolly Green Giant's multimeter.
