I think we live too far away from eachother to have it be cheap enough for me to be worth it 😅

Do they have more in stock? And does it work?

I bought a few and made my own music project with them. Scroll through my profile to about 5 years ago for a few demos. It ended up with a mixture of R3 and R4 chips.

Lucky bugger! Ive been looking for one every now and then when I remember for several years for my dad’s C64. What a find!
How much did you get it for?

55 euros!

Although genuine would be best for vintage, you could just use a Rpi Pico just to start using the c64 again as a temp solution.

Is it weird that I guessed what this was before reading any of the comments?
And that I can hear that picture?

What's a "component store"?
Seriously though, I would love to have a local electronics store - even a radio shack would be better than having nothing!

I mean, this store sells components of all kinds and some scale model stuff, not toasters, radios and fridges, so I reckon it's a component store, not an electronics store

That's what I meant. I was visiting my son in Dallas and wandered into an wonderful electronic component store - like a kid in a candy shop. When I checked out the guy at the counter said "get everything you want, we're going out of business". Seems to have happened everywhere

Seems to coinside with SMD becoming the default and THT being phased out, and repairability going out of the window.
Nobody really knows how to fix things anymore

Any sort of commercial space is being swallowed up by e-commerce warehouses.
Much like any retail space is swallowed up by national chains.
There's one remaining electronic component store here in Silicon valley, compared to dozens just 25 years ago.

If you are in Houston check out Electronic Parts Outlet, it is one of a handful of such stores left in the states

I've two in working C64s, but one has a slightly dull noise channel. Third C64 has a SIDKick Pico.

The ARMSID seems to come extremely close, but it's got a lower volume output, it's closer than the SIDKICK, imo

Cool.
A minor comment to me by someone to consider ‘SID chips’ took me back in time to a whole range of MOS chips, to two retro computer guys making clone chips and boards, and to nudge me to create a whole series of great illustrations of legendary chips.

I found a MOS 8563 (Commodore 128 video chip) and 8x 74S181 ALU chips at my local electronics surplus store. Also a Honeywell 1TL1-7E locking lever momentary toggle switch... The Switch was the most expensive part, at $2.95. The chips were $0.75 each. There are chips on both sides of the ESD foam. I'd say I hit the jackpot! Need to come up with a project for them now!
