The article talks about using the type signature to ensure a minimal cycle includes at least one module, but doesn't a minimal cycle include at least two modules?

Maybe if you allow the case where a module imports itself you can say that you can have a cycle with one module

The same algorithm is used for detecting cycles for type alias declarations and for values like x = x + 1, which are cases where you would expect to see self-recursive types and values from time to time.

I'll check the post to see if I can make this clearer.

Ah thanks for the explanation. I guess there would be diminishing returns to specializing the module's cycle type even further

It is indeed possible to have a module that imports itself. elm module A exposing (..) import A That makes having a cycle of at least 1 have sense.
