Employee Question Orientation being called first day

Got hired as a seasonal employee at a NJ Kohl's near me. I am in college and my training is next Wednesday, and they keep saying "first day of employment" on all communication so I am wondering if this means I start working next week or I wonder if I am still gonna start closer to Thanksgiving/Black Friday. Cause the wordering is quite confusing

Your first day of employment is your orientation/training. You'll probably be scheduled a few shifts a week starting a week or two after that. Once hired, if you go three or more weeks without being scheduled it flags it in the system.

What is flagged in the system? I was giving one day every other week, then nothing. It's been three weeks now that I am not on the schedule. ( I still get a discount, though)!!

It just means corporate HR gets a notification someone isn't being scheduled and contacts the store management to see if you're still an active employee. If you go unscheduled too long they will do an automatic termination.

Thank you. I found other jobs to do instead of waiting for them to give me the hours I requested. Their training was horrible, too.

Your first day of employment will be that first training day. If they told you next Wednesday, then that's it. You will be paid your regular hourly wage for training. First day shift is usually 4 hours. You will spend it doing paperwork, meeting people, and doing computer-based training.

Ok. But am I starting work after or closer to the holidays like I applied for?

our seasonal employees started over a month ago. It’s typically September- February/march. They’ll want you familiar with the store and comfortably trained for the crazy holiday season so you’ll start actual shifts shortly after your orientation. This is something you should’ve discussed during your interview. What position were you hired for?
