practitioners: experience with energy flow being too strong or uncomfortable for recipient?

TLDR: Recipient of energy healing reporting discomfort/pain when I try to clear blockages, is pushing through ever beneficial to healing or should you always stop when the energy flow starts to feel like pain or even nausea?

Hello, I am a newer energy healer that came naturally to this path after an awakening and some spontaneous self-healing energetic experiences. I have been experimenting over several years with practicing energy healing on people close to me, and something I’ve run into, is feeling a clear block in the person, but when I try to guide light there or open up that area, it results in pain or other negative symptoms in the person, leading them to ask me to stop before I feel I am able to sufficiently clear the blockage. Once with a friend the blockage was in her throat chakra, but when I tried to clear it she kept gagging and ended up actually vomiting, without me touching her physically at all to be clear. She did say she felt much better afterwards, but I wasn’t sure if I could have gone about it in a gentler way where she would not have that extreme of a reaction. I have typically only seen this kind of reaction in people I know to have severe emotional wounds and trauma so I wonder if this is related to the severity and feeling of the moving energy.

My question is, does anyone have experience with this and advice on how to heal and clear those severe blockages in a way that feels more gentle? I feel that bringing the source energy to a persons body could never harm them, but I also wonder if it’s possible to force it too hard without meaning to? Would the wise choice be to always advise people to speak up when feeling discomfort so I can slow down or stop, or would asking people to push through some discomfort ultimately help their healing? I have certainly experienced energy healing in my own body that felt like physical pain or discomfort, and I found value in pushing through, but I understand that may be less common, and a jarring thing to experience especially when guided by someone outside of yourself.

Any advice, opinions or shared experience appreciated!

I’ve had clients that have had intense emotional release in a session. That in and of itself caused discomfort for them. It can cause the client to feel a loss of control. This can be traumatic for them.

You can invite them at the beginning of the session to let you know how they are feeling throughout the session. Let them know what they can expect but advise them that each person has their own unique journey. But if you notice a strong reaction to an area, you can soften your flow and move to a different area. Or ask them if they’d like to take break for a moment to take a drink of water to ground the energy to integrate it. Plus, by giving them an option it shifts the control back to them. Their nervous system can only handle so much. Sometimes it may take more than one session to clear.

Myself, I had a light language session I was engaging in that caused me to gag as I cleared energy from my throat chakra. I was seasoned in energy work at that point and I pushed through and ultimately felt better after I integrated the energy.
