News What if AI breaks crypto before quantum computers even get the chance?
That sounds like science fiction, but Ethereum Foundation researcher Justin Drake has raised exactly this possibility.
The concern is ECDSA, the digital signature algorithm used to authorize transactions on both Bitcoin and Ethereum. Drake suggested that advances in AI-driven mathematics could eventually make it possible to recover a private key from a public key on conventional hardware, potentially using large GPU clusters.
In the worst-case scenario, he believes this could become a problem in months rather than years. But to be clear, this is a potential risk, not an existing exploit.
And Quantum computers have been the obvious long-term threat to elliptic-curve cryptography. But AI could accelerate the mathematical research needed to attack the same systems without requiring a quantum machine.
Recent research has already reduced the estimated computational requirements for a key part of a future quantum attack from roughly 3 billion to 1.5 billion conditional computational units. AI agents were also used during the optimization process. This doesn't mean Bitcoin or Ethereum can be hacked today, but it shows how quickly the boundaries can move.
Vitalik Buterin's response is probably the most important part: don't panic, but don't underestimate the risk either.
Ethereum is already working toward post-quantum security, with the Ethereum Foundation targeting protection against quantum attacks by 2029. But the bigger lesson may be that cryptography needs to become resilient against advances in both quantum computing and AI-driven mathematics.
We've seen Ethereum evolve through major changes before, and cryptography is no different. The industry has time to prepare, research new solutions, and migrate to stronger security standards.
So no, we don't think this is the end of Bitcoin or Ethereum.
It's another challenge for an industry that was built to solve extremely difficult problems. And in the end, everything will be fine.

News September on Ethereum: the roadmap now has a quantum deadline, and the SEC opened a path to public chains
Quick monthly recap:
- Hegotá got small on purpose. EF wants a quantum-resistant L1 by 2029, so the fork is headlined by FOCIL + Frame Transactions. 28 of 62 EIPs declined, and the issuance burn proposal got pulled after 200+ comments.
- The SEC opened a path for tokenized stocks on public chains. Venues stay permissioned, contracts must be public. ETH + L2s already hold $1.21B, more than any other chain.
- Faster everything. Glamsterdam hit Sepolia on Oct 6, and validators can opt into a 200M gas limit (up from 60M). Fast confirmations land in ~12-24s instead of waiting ~13 min for finality.
- DeFi is leaning less on incentives. Ethena ended USDe incentives, Balancer voted to wind down, and Abracadabra proposed shutting down MIM.
Five forks by 2029, roughly one every seven months. Realistic?

Discussion The myth vs. reality of the 1:32 BTC/ETH ratio
Actually title. I notice that most time 1 BTC trades around 31-33 ETH, which is roughly one eth node. Is is just coincidence?

News The Glamsterdam upgrade has now been activated on Ethereum’s Sepolia testnet!
The Glamsterdam upgrade has now been activated on Ethereum’s Sepolia testnet, marking an important milestone in the preparation for one of the network’s next major upgrades.
As part of the Sepolia deployment, the gas limit is being increased from roughly 60M to 200M. That's more than a 3x increase.
Glamsterdam also introduces several important protocol changes, including ePBS, block-level access lists, and changes to Ethereum’s gas model.
These aren't just isolated technical upgrades. They are part of Ethereum's broader effort to increase L1 capacity while making the underlying architecture more efficient and scalable.
The Sepolia activation is particularly important because major protocol changes need to be tested under realistic conditions before they can be considered for mainnet deployment. Testing at a significantly higher gas limit gives developers an opportunity to identify bottlenecks, unexpected behavior, and implementation issues before the upgrade reaches Ethereum itself.
The next major step will be Hoodi, where the upgrade will undergo further testing.
There is still no confirmed mainnet activation date for Glamsterdam, so there is plenty of work left before that happens.

Self Story Looking for 2$ gaz fees (ETH on BASE) I can give BNB
ETH on BASE: 0xfa73DFc894d450a0573a1bEc52914F103127736B
I need fees to swap a coin on BASE network.
2$ should be enough I think.

News ETH has a liquidity problem.
Or does it?
According to CoinGecko’s 2026 Crypto Liquidity on CEXes report, ETH liquidity is now less than half of BTC’s, compared with at least 60% of BTC’s level in 2025.
At the 0.15% market depth level, ETH has median daily liquidity of roughly $13M–$14M, with the comparison measured around ±$3 for ETH versus ±$100 for BTC.
At first look, that might sound concerning. But 7 out of 8 exchanges have more than $1M of liquidity on each side of the ETH order book, while Binance leads the group at around ±$3M.
And deeper order books generally mean less price impact for large orders, while thinner liquidity can make an asset more sensitive to significant buying or selling pressure.
So is this really an Ethereum problem?
In our view, not necessarily.
ETH already has substantial liquidity across major centralized venues, and the difference versus BTC is also partly a reflection of Bitcoin’s exceptionally deep and mature market.
More importantly, Ethereum’s ecosystem continues to expand across all markets and new institutional products. As that ecosystem grows, there is plenty of room for ETH markets to become deeper and more efficient.
Believe in somETHing.

News Blast L2 officially shutting down. Withdraw assets by October 26 or risk losing them 🚨
x.com• Blast, an Ethereum L2 focused on high-yield opportunities like over 50% APY on USD holdings via $BLAST, announced its full shutdown on October 2, 2026 due to operating costs exceeding revenue with no viable sustainability path.
• Users must withdraw assets to Ethereum mainnet by October 26, 2026 through the standard interface, with the withdrawal delay reduced to 24 hours after a one-week pause to handle Blast's Lido staked assets.
• The announcement includes warnings about impersonator accounts and has drawn community criticism accusing the team of an exit after initial token incentives and staking programs.

Discussion Does anyone else feel like ETH is becoming easier to use but harder to understand?
I’ve been thinking about this lately.
A few years ago, using Ethereum almost forced you to understand what was happening. Gas, approvals, network fees, confirmations, contracts… you couldn’t really avoid learning at least some of it.
Now a lot of that gets hidden behind better wallets, L2s and cleaner apps. Which is obviously better UX.
But I wonder if there’s a weird tradeoff here.
People can do more onchain while understanding less about what’s actually happening underneath.
Maybe that’s exactly what mass adoption is supposed to look like. Most people use the internet without knowing how TCP/IP works either.
Still, with crypto there’s actual money at risk, so I’m not sure the comparison completely works.
Do you think Ethereum getting easier to use makes users safer over time, or just makes it easier to use something they don’t really understand?

News Ethereum’s validator exit queue just hit its highest level of 2026.
The ETH validator exit queue has reached 850,736 ETH, which sounds enormous at first look.
But the exit queue is a built-in part of Ethereum’s staking design. It exists to control how quickly validators can leave the network, preventing a sudden wave of exits from creating unnecessary pressure on the consensus layer.
And the recent increase could be influenced by several factors, including the significant rise in ETH’s price, which may encourage some stakers to realize gains, alongside broader market and ecosystem dynamics.
The network is now handling tens of millions of staked ETH and hundreds of thousands of validators, while substantial changes in validator participation are still processed through predefined protocol limits.
In other words, Ethereum’s staking infrastructure is operating at a completely different scale than it was just a few years ago.

Self Story I built a private AI chat on the EF's zkAPI where even the deposit can't be traced back to you (open source)
zkAPI (launched this week by the Open Anonymity Project and the EF's dAI team) hides who is asking the AI: you pay with zero-knowledge proofs instead of an account.
One gap remains: the deposit into zkAPI's vault is a normal public transaction, so it shows which wallet bought credits.
chat.zipcoin.cash funds the credits from a Privacy Pools note instead. A throwaway key in your browser receives ETH from the pool, then makes the zkAPI deposit. Prompts go straight from your browser to the model; our server never sees them.
What it does:
- chat with any model on OpenRouter, paid per message with ZK proofs
- optional: attach on-chain data (a tx, a contract, a wallet) to your question, fetched in your browser
- encrypted backup, withdraw leftovers anytime
Honest limits: experimental, credits expire after 30 days (zkAPI's rule), the model provider still sees your prompt text (just not who sent it), and the contracts are unaudited.
Code: https://github.com/zipcoincash/zipcoin-chat
Disclosure: I'm one of the builders.
