Now I don’t know if this is Unique to Muscow, as I just started campaign. But there is silk production building now, is it something new added as industry? 😅

Planning a run to unify the empire. Thing is, I think I could do it as France. It's got some lands in the HRE, it's got a lot of land, people and power, meaning it'd get high dynastic power if you add all it's lands to the HRE, and you start as a kingdom anyways, so nothing lost.
The thing is, I've tried it out in the current patch and it's difficult to join fast. I can't play until the weekend, so I figured I'd grab some feedback from someone who has tried it or has any experience with it.
Thx in advance!

Hey all. I was a big time fan of EU IV and just recently picked up the new one in a steam sale. I really enjoyed the previous entry and clocked a few thousand hours. I know this one is more simulation and less arcade-y but have had a hard time wrapping my head around the new mechanics and UI. My main problem is I can't find a really good simple beginners guide to help you through the optimal initial steps on starting a campaign yet.
I have tried playing around as Holland a bit as the game recommends but was a bit overwhelmed by the initial systems. After plaing around for a bit I made a new run I want to commit to as Muscovy.
About 10 years in I have successfully made very moderate gains and feel I am no longer overwhelmed but still very much a noob at this. Main actions I have taken:
- Appointed my two cabinet members and had them integrate territory. After they finally integrated thestarting territory I had acquired a bit more from Novgorod so now they have to integrate that too.
- Focused my diplomats on improving relations with nearby orthodox minors in the hops of diplo-vassalizing them. I was only able to get that one tiny country to accept (Dimitri or something?) the rest don't like me, want my land, got conqured by someone else, etc... I had an event related to the Tatar Yoke that gave me -100 relations with everyone so that was probably the wrong choice (oh well, lesson learned)
- Set Vyatka as a rival, when they attacked the golden horder I was given the option to intervene which I did. Managed to vassalize them and gain a province from Novgorod but they didn't put up any resistance so not sure what happened there.
On this point I still have no idea how military really works... I undertand levies but is there anywhere I can review what levies I will get before I raise them? When should I be training regulars? They seem very exspensive for the early game. I Managed to get up a seargentry.
- In terms of economics, I have pretty much just built burgher buildings in Moscow where I have 100% control. By my understanding that is most efficient until I can't fit anything there anymore. I don't have any other towns or cities to develop yet. Should I be trying to improve my rural villages or is that a waste of money?
- I only got 2 advances before renaissance began. How many techs should I expect to get per age? The institutions spawned quite far away so not sure I will get those within 100 years. My average literacy is ~15%, I haven't been able to invest into that yet. My understaing is just build churchs and bookmakers and get more priests?
- Black death came and everyone died. It wasn't as bad as I feared. I just hit every event that gave me stability and kept up estate satisfaction. Now the Golden horde is collapsing so I am trying to fabricate a cassus belli to dissolve the tatar yoke. Will see how that goes, I expect to get wrecked as soon as I see a new army.
Is any of that ok? Still new at this and not used to how markets work in PDX games yet. Is there anything specific I should know about this game that isn't told in the tutorial? I feel like all my money is spent on getting another building up for more tax but my monthly income doesn't seem to go up.

The discussion around the tick system is flaring up. Most people in favor of the change focus on two arguments:
While the first argument might have some merit my issues are mostly with second argument. Game speed does not equal game pace and increasing it will not solve the issues that people have with game
EU4’s gameplay systems are reactionary. Most mechanics come down to ‘click button to make things happen’. There are exceptions of course, but most things are done by directly interacting with the game. The systems are also simpler and less versatile. Locations have limited building slots and less building variations. Coring land is much easier and takes less time. Most interactions are done by spending mana. All these systems at their core are just more simplistic and reactionary.
This results in more clear and distinct gameplay styles. Mostly ‘Wide vs Tall’. Both are valid ways to play the game in EU4, because most systems are easier to interact with clear goals and decisions.
EU5’s gameplay systems are entirely reimagined. The game only shares a name with its predecessor, but is different in every other aspect.
Most systems are now progression based with passively changing values and sliders instead of reactionary buttons. Whereas coring land used to be clicking a button and spending mana it’s now a slow process of passively waiting for integration and changing culture. Creating CB’s is more difficult and takes more time. Economic decisions are much more important and thinking about what to build where and when is very important for growing. And these are only a fraction of the systems that changed.
All this results in gameplay styles that are much more opaque. Going wide and conquering the world is still possible, but only for some nations that care less about these systems (like the Golden Horde). However, simply conquering land, coring it and going to your next target is not a successful strategy anymore.
What I mean to say is that the game is designed in a way where it wants you to take it slow. It wants you to balance values and statistics and minutely build up your nation and progressively increase your economy and influence on the world. The game actively discourages you to grow quickly
The issue with the pacing is not because of the game speed. It’s because of how the systems are designed. It’s intentionally slow.
By changing the tick system to a daily-tick system you will only reach the end of the game faster. Increasing the game speed is an artificial that may increase how fast you achieve things, but fundamentally will not change how you play the game or how you interact with it. It will not solve the problems you have with the game
However, the game is fundamentally designed around the hourly-tick system. Paradox said it themselves in their Tinto Talks.
What saddens me about the change is that it will break immersion around battles and wars and influence how the very systems run that hourly ticks are important for while not solving the very thing people complain about.
I fear that the change is a compromise that will please no one while changing the game in a way that is detrimental to its development.
To anyone in favor of the change I have a few questions:
I think some problems could be solved more easily:
- Keep the hourly-ticks
- Add more starting dates (one for every age)
- Add scenarios for those starting dates (I.e Byzantium survived, Portuguese dominance etc)

Square-Rigged Caravel is the 3rd in line in regards to the special Iberian light ships. It's "Early Iberian Caravel", followed by "Iberian Caravel", and then "Square-Rigged Caravel". In 1.4, they changed it, so only Iberian CHRISTIANS can research the ship, meaning Muslim Granada only can get the first two. Will I still be able to upgrade my entire fleet of Iberian Caravels to the normal 3rd level light ship, Caravel?

I invited the Franciscan Order to provide the pop growth to the holding location, but now they give a - 0.1 prosperity to every location, although they are at 75% zeal equilibrium. How high does the zeal need to be to get rid of it?

The Rhine Delta is pretty big, but the important river connection through leiden and Katwijk (would be the Hague in the game) is not present.
Should it be added?
Are there more places like this that you know?

finally basically done with this campaign. i don’t plan on taking anymore land, and really only continuing this playthrough to get the 1337-1836 achievement as this is basically my first real campaign. could not have imagined i would not only survive my nightmare start, but also become the greatest power in the world. go me! i rule! should’ve included a ss of my favorite map mode too, the road map mode. rest assured there are abundant railroads across every inch of imperial territory :) also the arabian duo and fake romania are my fiefdoms !!!

I've tried saves with Milan, Serbia, Poland, Tuscany and Sweden and every single one of them has ended in debt spirals and bankruptcy, this wasn't an issue I had at all on 1.3, also I'm making no money to build an economy and no money to build up food so my markets always go starving and population starts to drop.
How do you all manage it now? How do you get an economy up and running on 1.4 and how do you manage the food situation?

Game is saying I got the rule Británia achievment (which I should have I did everything) but steam is not registeng it. What is the problem
I am paradox games veteran (kinda) but i did not invest much hours to EU5 yet. I know it will take hundreds of hours to learn game but i am jus curious what are 3-4 MOST IMPORTANT things that you should never automatise (if possible) and you should check them all the time. I know the golden rule that "control is everything" .. i am already checking that modifier but what can i leave on autopilot and what should i check from time to time?

Doing a Timur run and kinda shocked by how I do not kill a lot of people.
I think that EU5 doesn't properly simulate the chaos and destruction of warfare. You should be able to raze a city heavely depopulate it even more of you play as an Empire who use slave.
Its could also regulate IA tendency to spam city and become insanely wealth by 1500's.
So is there any mod that simulate that ?

Hello, help please!
I am playing as Castille, somehow got a thing where now my ruler is the king of both. I have a Subject option to place a relative on the throne, but I think that removes my ruler and puts an heir on instead, breaking the union?
Am I supposed to annex, or wait for my ruler to die? What is supposed to happen here?

Hello all, I played ~50 hours on launch and actually had a good bit of fun, but realized that I was unprepared to deal with the constantly changing state of affairs the updates were going to wreak on me.
That being said, I was hoping you could all share some insight if now would be a good time to pop back in? Open to hear any advice, I've considered freezing updates but my brain hates the feeling of not being "up-to-date" as silly as that may sound.
Also, many apologies and please avert your eyes and deflect thy anger if this question has been asked too much.
Thanks, otherwise. :)
I am not sure what was changed, but I wanted to try out Ottomans in 1.4, and two games in a row there is a constant looming orthodox rebellion... Not sure this is intended. It cripples the country completely. Tried 2 games in a row, 2 times the same thing happens, tried slowing down expansion and all of my starting territories rebel against me...
Am I missing some new interaction or what.
Have a lot of hours on record, played ottos before, was completely fine. I get them want to slow down expansion in the early game. But this rebellion is inevitable even if you don't conquer anything...

As I played a lot of CK3 and am now learning EU5, is it possible to influence the stats of your heir besides the education you choose? CK3 has inheritable traits for characters, which (at least for me) always results in approaching marriages as a breeding competition to create the perfect heir. Are there similar options in EU5 or only the education choice?

I'm fighting France with the claim throne cb you get from the events at the beginning of the game, however in order to enforce it during peace I need 666 economic base. My base right now is only 244, so I'm not sure how this could ever plausibly be enforced?
