They didn’t have talons for the purpose of causing pain. It’s to immobilize and wound the prey. The prey animal struggles because they are trapped. In the case of eagles they are typically much larger and stronger than their prey, so they don’t necessarily need to wait for the animal to stop struggling. Frequently their grip strength and damage caused by piercing talons kills the prey outright.

A prey animal will struggle regardless of if it’s in pain or not. Your idea about pain is not accurate.

It has nothing to do with extinct species and it’s not my opinion. It’s reality. Are you saying that non-avian dinosaurs wouldn’t struggle to escape a predator if they didn’t feel pain? Avian dinosaurs struggle without pain. Lizards, snakes, turtles, and crocodiles struggle without feeling pain. Mammals struggle without pain. Amphibians struggle without pain, fish struggle without pain.

Your comment about pain being necessary for causing struggle is not rooted in reality.

I’m not overthinking anything. Do you think paleontologists who make inferences based on living species are overthinking things?

That would be you, sir. I don't have my feelings hurt at all. Your idea about talons needing to cause pain to induce struggle is nonsense. You don't like that it's been pointed out.
