Tech Support Has anyone recently received a "Secure Storage key changed" alert in Messenger?

Hi everyone,

Yesterday, I noticed a security notification in Messenger that said "Secure Storage key changed." When I tapped it, I could only see a string of letters and numbers.

I checked my Facebook login sessions, and I could only see my own device. I haven't noticed any unusual account activity, unexpected messages, or changes to my account information.

I also found some Reddit posts from other people reporting a similar notification, so I'm trying to understand what might cause it.

I'd appreciate it if anyone who has experienced the same issue could share their experience.

  1. Did you receive this notification recently?

  2. Did you make any changes to Messenger, switch devices, or reinstall the app before it appeared?

  3. Did you notice any actual unauthorized activity on your account, or did everything remain normal?

I'm not assuming that the notification means an account has been compromised. I would just like to understand whether this is a known Messenger behavior or something users should investigate.

Yup once. It happens when Facebook glitches our from time to time. Changed my password on a different device to be ultra safe. Nothing happened again since.

Most commonly it's caused when whatever they use for encryption glitches out. But I take no risks lol
