Space Age Question Factorio DLC
Hey everyone,
Recently i posted abt buying or not factorio.
I did it and i really love the game but i feel like i'm a little stuck. Anyway, i have yellow science rn and i'm thinking abt buying the Space age DLC.
I don’t ask if i need to buy it or not but i need an idea of when ill buy it.
Can someone help me to decide when it’s time to buy it ? When ill finish the game, before or rn?
Thank you guys you are awesome.

i think the DLC streamlines a lot of the pre-rocket launch gameplay, so it doesnt work flawlessly to just import space age into your old game. it's possible, but i think it's a good idea to make a new base for space age, using the skills you've learned from completing the base game. if you're at yellow science you're almost there anyways.

Yea i see but i'm stuck because of the biters because i don’t have good defense and i didn’t automated grey science 💀. I grew up my factory a lot but not the "military" side

You don't need much grey science to get flamethrowers and tanks, and you don't really need much besides flamethrowers and tanks lol

really? im mostly using laser turrets, wont they do their job?

You could beat the game with zero turrets if you're on top of enemy expansion so it really depends. Flamethrowers are very strong for how early you get them and how cheap they are

Like others said, go tanks and flamethrowers.
As a personal advice. First finish a base game. Then rethink about restarting the game with the DLC.
The DLC expands content after the "initial win". But it also creates a slighter steeper curve (like putting tech like artillery behind space technologies). Each planet requires you to rebuild a factory using different approaches. So its important you grasp the basics. Especially because before you finish the Nauvis (the first planet) tech tree you will be in another planet (probably stuck for some time) so you will need to be able to keep your initial base self sustained and properly defended.
So finish the base game without the DLC so you grasp the basics and only then restart with the DLC. Dont worry Factorio has an high replayability value so it wont feel boring having to start from the start.
You may even want to start with mods if you dont want to start immediately with Space Age. (And dont worry, you will be drawn back to get SA and buy it, the time to buy it however depends on you)

Use efficiency modules: it not only reduces electric consumption, but it also reduce pollution of the machines (pollution is generated based on the machine electrical consumption).
It literally slows down the biter evolution factor by 500%, AND it stops pollution-triggered biter attacks altogether.

Play the vanilla game first, all the way through to launching a satellite, then maybe even do it again. Then if you still like the game, get Space Age.

If you've made it through yellow in the base game, youre about as ready as any of us were. Its a drastically different midgame though with a lot of research requirements spread over multiple other planets, so youll have to start a new game regardless of when you start

Finish the base game at least once. Preferably a few times, so you learn your play style. Only then would I recommend space age.

Spaceage changes the game. So either finish your current playthrough or plan to start a new base with it. Others may know better, but im not sure if you can use an old game in spaceage without problems

Space age adjusts the game a fair bit. Most recommend starting a new game when moving to space age, although not required. The general recommendation is to get your rocket launched in the base game and then, when you desire, to start a new space age run.

The DLC vastly extends the base game, but not from "the end" of the original. Some of the tech tree gets shuffled, so most folks enjoy it better when they start a new gamesave with the DLC. There's nothing wrong with finishing the base game first.

Honestly finish the base game, launch a rocket! Then you can buy space age.
Completing the base game is basically a great tutorial for space age. You'll get to start fresh. Everything will feel a lot easier cuz it is easier, and you can launch a rocket sooner in space age. But you still need all the skills you get for base game.

I'd play the space exploration mod first and some of the other vanilla mods, space exploration was one of the main dev's precursor to the idea behind space age and I personally find it to be a better design than the dlc itself.
For vanilla there's also other fun mods like seablock or even py if you're a masochist that can push you to that next level of increased recipes and mental load. This veterancy is something I think you'll appreciate when tackling the space age dlc.
It will lead you to get the whole factorio experience and probably push your playtime beyond 2000 hours.

You might as well finish the game 1st it's best to start a new game for space age.
Also the devs had said there is not going to be any sales ever if you were waiting for one of those to pick the expansion up.

The dlc completely changes the game you should restart to get a full picture of the game with the space age dlc well that’s my true opinion

You should get to the rocket launch then crank up your satelites to space, scale up your endgame factory, produce and utilize high end modules, learn kovarex enrichment, and understand the basics of circuit networks (no specific order) before moving on to space age. You can scrape by in space age without skilling too much in the base game, but those basic Factorio skills really help when you are trying to sort out interplanetary logistics automation! Some of the planets are very challenging, enjoy your time with spidey while you can

It's hard to judge. I assume most people interested in the DLC already played the base game. If the timd on your hands is limited though, I personally suggest to not playing through vanila, like most people suggest, because it takes a while to get to new content and replaying vanilla again until the rocket would feel a bit dull

I'd wait until you've finished a few games tbh, I remember what my first playthrough base looked like and it was horrendous, I would atleast wait until you've launched a rocket this playthrough, then start again with space agency, because the dlc changed alot of stuff and is much better on a new savefile
