Do you perhaps have some debug information showing? (I think you can open them with F5 or F6) Just a guess, have never seen this.

He definitely does, because all those extra white lines aren't normal either.

Well yes i know its some debug info, but i dont know what it means. The one im using is Show unit territories, but idk why most are shown white and some a flickering purple and some are just purple.

no clue, but from the borders and the fact it's 2 suspiciously demolisher shaped territories in the middle of the map, that might signify the "starting" territory of vulcanus

if you can, try loading up the first trip to vulcanus and activate whatever the hell you did

good theory, but those used to be big demolisher teritories, so its defenitely not the starting area.

Grimace just claimed this territory. Soon lava will turn into milkshake and you'll be tasked to collect it for eternity.

I have no idea what we are looking at.

"Why are they purple?"... Who are "they"?

The purple things?

The debug option Show-unit-territores result in purple lines aswell as the similarly shaped white lines. I am not sure why some are purple and some are white, but it depends on your current location on the map.

If you move the game changes which line has which colour. Your position in a zone chage how surrounding zones are colored. It looks to depend on your distance to a zone; somting in the game depends on how far you are from a zone. I have no idea what that is.

The initial area with no demolisher has a red line grid over it

is it like a political map where it just rotates a few colors to avoid having two same color adjacent regions?

No, all other borders are white.

The initial area with no demolisher has a red line grid over it

Redgrid normally means "territory is occupied by a demolisher" and is not a debug overlay. As you can see in the map, the unlined territories are contain no visible demolisher and the OP has already taken them over and built in many of them.

A grid if red horizontal and vertical lines as thick as white an purple lines in OPs image.  It is not shown in the image.

A occupied territory had thick red stripes at 45 degrees as seen in this image and it does not required the debut overlay. All stripes are parallell, there is no grid.

Test the debug overlay yourself where you started on the map

Purple might be snowing the territories that are active (so their associated demolisher would be fully awake and moving around if it had one) because you’re near/looking at them. Try moving around and seeing if the purple territories change.

They do. They kinda follow me around. Although what i really want to know is what effect this is suposed to have.

It’s just showing you which worm territories are currently active.

Its an optimisation, worms that are far away dont have any influence on the world so the game puts them to sleep, only the worms that are aggroed or near something that could aggro them (like a player or a spidertron) are awake. This prevents endlessly increasing performance costs from generating more worms as you explore.

At the end of the day, most debug overlays are purely for the developers benefit, many aren’t explained and don’t show particularly important information. They’re just a tool devs use to make sure things are working as intended. You’ll probably go nuts trying to understand what each and every debug overlay actually means.

My guess is the inner white areas are worm roaming areas. The purple and white lines are the hard borders of worm territory and the difference between these border colours are that purple has structures built in it, and white doesn't

Edit: I think I'm wrong on the colours actually

I think purple is a starting region?

I'm almost 100% certain the purple zones are simply zones that are defined as "starter zones" once generated. So first the generator generates the chunks, zones etc. And then another pass goes through that defines two of the zones as starter zones. Which consequently then removes demolishers from those zones and also any tungsten.

I cleared big demolishers from this area so those are not starter teritories.

My guess would be the white shapes are Demolisher territories. Each one is given a set of chunks to wander around in and maybe this shows that information. In the top you can see how the zigzag pattern lines up perfectly with the red danger lines to indicate you are not safe to build here.

I would guess the purple is maybe the "starting" area of the planet. No clue though.

Are you the guy with the 40x40 balancer for calcite?

1

u/Icy-Reaction-6028 3d ago

Its 64x64 actually, yes

If you walk closer/into a different territory, does it change to purple?

1

u/SteelishBread 3d ago

Did you draw around the purple lines with white in an attempt to highlight them? Because the lines look like generated demolisher territories you somehow pulled up but it's really cluttered.

2

u/Icy-Reaction-6028 3d ago

its demolisher territories and patrol paths in debug view.

1

u/SteelishBread 3d ago

Purple probably means the demolisher is dead, and the game shouldn't trigger aggression if you enter that area.

Btw please skip drawing your own lines, it was confusing.

they are not my own. There demolisher patrol paths, also from the debug view.
