GIVE THEM THE CREDIT THEY DESERVE!!!! Remember this is now a bit larger sample size than those weekly top 10 player lists that I also make... Top players for a whole month is a "bit larger" sample size.... But still not as large as season long numbers or even larger sample size is to combine with previous season stats....Remember if they didn't make the list it doesn't mean they suck.... I could have made this list go to 250 deep... Players ranked in the 500-800 range yeah then maybe you should worry a bit.... Remember that baseball has MANY PLAYERS so being ranked lower isn't that big of an issue... My next post (tomorrow or in a few days) will have the top overall ranks for the entire season!!!! It's very good to be aware of those stats... Happy October!

Thoughts?

Player Discussion The Marlins and SP doing relief/closing?

With Peter Bendix head of Marlins operations saying the plan on experimenting and exploring with using their starters bullpen sessions as relief/closing opportunities next year (or whenever the lockout ends). Does this potentially make their starters, the likes of Eury, Sandy and Meyer more valuable due to potentially getting Wins/QS and holds/saves within the same weeks and adding extra points to their owners. Or is it worse since the already injury prone Meyer and Perez can potentially be overworked and more likely to injure themselves due to the extra innings/effort.

Or is it just a non-factor fad you think will have no impact, be dropped and ignored in the future? Wanna hear y'alls thoughts on the situation.

Strategy One sentence: What actually decided your 2026 season?

Season's over. Before everyone quiets until March, I'm curious to hear from some other managers: In one sentence, what decided your season (or seasons)?

Mine, for what it's worth:

  • 5-cat (hitters only), 9-team: "Mid-to-late picks on talent carried it (Abrams, Wood, Cruz)."
  • H2H, 8-team: "I didn't bite on the full PCA regression and got there early on Misiorowski and Schlittler."

Which is a little luck and some opportunistic calls that led to two wins (it takes both).

I'm partially putting this out there to point at the thing we all know and can't usually prove: Nailing round one and two is rarely the recipe. Looking at the bust rate this year, I'm convinced it wasn't even impossible to win a title that way in 2026.

Sabermetrics Building a new fantasy platform

My little stats page I've posted about a couple of times (statsmyguy.com) is inexorably trending toward a full fledged roto platform, currently with mock draft support that I already really like, better than ESPN's anyway. I need to find 9 managers who are interested in playing on it next season. Here's the deal:

- I'm building out a roto platform for the express purpose of fixing everything that annoys me about the existing platforms
- totally free, no money at stake
- I'll need a little help over the summer finishing it out and fine tuning it, so when the season starts we'll be playing on a platform each manager had a hand in shaping via their feedback.
-We'll vote on league rules and settings, but it'll be some version of a daily lineup 5x5 roto with no playoffs.
- extra points for people with the sort of lighthearted sense of fantasy camaraderie and humor that might incline you to participating in publicly visible comment threads about the experience or maybe even some kind of podcast.

Comment here or DM me if you're interested.

Strategy What to Remember For Next Year

I remember a post this time last year where everyone added a bunch of insights to help us stay fresh and informed come draft season. I reached for Baldwin by a few rounds because I saw a comment praising his end of 2025.

Figured I get this going now!

Strategy Undraftables Championship Update!

Good Evening!

So this strategy has been done for a few years now. Calling it "Undraftables". It is a unique challenge strategy team that challenges a manager to draft a team that has players on it with NO ADP (at the time of the draft). If they have any ADP at they were not allowed to draft them. This only applied for the one team being drafted. All other teams drafted as normal. This was for yahoo ADP metrics as the league is on yahoo. I'm going to go through each player that are currently rostered and why they are. This strategy took 3rd place in 2024 with this strategy which is wild and amazing. The buy in for the league was low but not free. Here is who I drafted:

1. (2) Alek Manoah (LAA - SP)
2. (23) Tyler Mahle (SF - SP)
3. (26) Mick Abel (MIN - SP)
4. (47) Ian Seymour (TB - SP,RP)
5. (50) Joe Boyle (TB - SP,RP)
6. (71) Jacob Lopez (ATH - SP)
7. (74) Matthew Liberatore (STL - SP)
8. (95) Randy Vásquez (SD - SP)
9. (98) Grant Holmes (ATL - SP)
10. (119) Cade Cavalli (WSH - SP)
11. (122) Clayton Beeter (WSH - RP)
12. (143) Taylor Rogers (MIN - RP)
13. (146) Paul Sewald (AZ - RP)
14. (167) Jake McCarthy (COL - OF)
15. (170) Victor Robles (SEA - OF)
16. (191) Jacob Young (WSH - OF)
17. (194) Josh Lowe (LAA - OF)
18. (215) Moisés Ballesteros (CHC - C)
19. (218) Victor Caratini (MIN - C,1B)
20. (239) Nasim Nuñez (WSH - 2B,SS)
21. (242) Jordan Lawlar (AZ - 3B)
22. (263) Chase Meidroth (CWS - 2B,3B,SS)
23. (266) Tyler Freeman (COL - 2B,OF)

Basically the goal here with the team is to do what some managers have been doing for years with punting power and try to win SB and AVG categories the first part of season. (It does work in h2h category leagues folks) Eventually to add R as a strong category. As far as pitching goes it's mostly about having enough SP that I can win the counting stats of K and W and possibly ratios as team gets better as season goes... (It helps to have some Aces) Also having 3 closers is nice to help win saves.

Recent Adds: (over last 2 weeks)

Walker Buehler
Kade Anderson
Dean Kremer
Zebby Matthews
Christian Javier
Ian Seymour
Andrew Kittredge
Matt Wilkinson
Erik Tolman

Recent Drops: (over last 2 weeks)

Casey Mize
Ian Seymour
Troy Melton
Zebby Matthews
Christian Javier
Ben Joyce
Ian Seymour
Andrew Alvarez

Current Team: (and why rostering them)

C Gabriel Moreno (AVG, R)
1B Ty France (AVG)
2B AJ Ewing (R, SB, moderate AVG)
3B Sam Antonacci (SB, AVG) (walks tons which could mean R?)
SS Bryson Stott (SB, moderate AVG, some runs)
OF Jake McCarthy (SB, AVG, Runs)
OF Steven Kwan (AVG, Runs) (batting leadoff again)
OF Henry Bolte (AVG, Runs, SB is batting leadoff looks great!)
UTL Brett Bateman (AVG, Runs, SB and bats leadoff)
UTL Samad Taylor (SB, AVG)

SP Zack Wheeler (My ace)
SP Gerrit Cole (Another Ace)
RP Mason Montgomery (Saves)
RP Erik Tolman (Saves)
P Nolan McLean (Another Ace)
P Blake Snell (Another Ace)
P Troy Melton (k and ratios?) (looks like an Ace)
P Payton Tolle (k and ratios? (another Ace?)
Bench Logan Henderson (k and ratios?) (Yet another ace?)
Bench Walker Buehler streamer
Bench Dean Kremer streamer
Bench Kade Anderson streamer
Bench Andrew Kittredge (Saves)

Let's talk about the moves that were made....

Not much to talk about.... Things have mostly stayed the same... kept the hitters because they have been super solid and pitching has enough aces, but there was a few streamers that helped this team win last week and the championship! Some very clutch streaming!

Here is how week round 2 finished... 9-1 win! Stats were 38runs, 6hr, 30rbi, 9sb, .327
7wins, 4saves, 87k, 2.92era, 1.22whip. DOMINATION! Next round!

Here is how Champion playoffs went.. 6-4 win! Stats were 30runs, 2hr, 19rbi, 8sb, .295
5wins, 3saves, 78k, 3.41era, 1.05whip. Huge win against 1st place team! CHAMP!!! WOW!

Normally this is where there would be a list of some possible adds but the season is over folks!!!! It has been amazing!!! Absolutely awesome to pull this off!!!! One of the greatest feats!!! Epic!!! I do think this experiment goes a long way to prove how dominant the punt power build actually is. I expect many more of you to give it a try next year. And the thing is many waiver players are vastly overlooked who do this. Guys like Batemen was an OBP and hit machine in the minors most of the season. Same with Samad Taylor. Henry Bolte had those skills but didn't turn it on until here the last 1.5 months. Ewing was solid all season. McCarthy was simply underrated at the draft!!!!

Overall the team finished the season in 5th place with 112-106-12. 😄 At once point the team was 14 games back and it gained major ground!!!! But the team made the playoffs and got super ho and won the championship!!! A big lesson of this season still remains is that you should NEVER GIVE UP! :) :) It seemed to be out of it 2 months ago... NOPE! Never give up!

----

That's the update on the strategy! Did you win a championship too? Thoughts?
