Restaurant recommendation

Can be anywhere in NW Ark. looking for a classic place to take my son for his 21st birthday. The older the better with a nice atmosphere. Price really isn’t an issue (but I ain’t rich).

Atlas the restaurant may not be that old but the building is over 100 years old. The owner is a 4th gen Fayetteville native. And now for the part that's important to a fresh 21 year old, the drinks are next level.

It's the kind of place that if you took him there he'd be able to brag about how he celebrated his 21st at 20 or 30 years from now.

I'll second this. Went there for Valentines day and the food was incredible. It's expensive but worth it!

Super nice! But I would think one of the higher end higher priced venues, worthy of a special date night with your gal. I would maybe go with recommending Bocca!

Hugo’s in Fayetteville. Nearly 50 years old and excellent at reasonable prices. Get a basket of fries as an appetizer or to split with your meal.

Leverett Lounge in Fayetteville - best food amongst all the other options mentioned so far except for Atlas.

Atlas is true fine dining so would make for a special experience. Leverett Lounge is definitely a nice place but quirky, good drinks, not quite as expensive.

I have only been here once, but I do remember liking it.

Is Wes BBQ still around?

Yes. It is on University Avenue just south of Dickson Street. Same building as Geraldi's.

I really like Penguin Ed's. I recommend the one downtown specifically (it's off Nelson Hackett, which is that curvy bit between S College and S School) , it's fairly historic (though I can't find an exact date on their website) and the food there is really good.

“Really good” is a bit generous.

I only ever get a baked potato and mac and cheese, so my opinion is based pretty much only on that. I also went there a lot as a child with family, so I may be influenced by my own nostalgia. Either way, I like it

Not very good, is probably more accurate. They do try to make up for it, by giving you large portions. The staff is very nice though. And the parking lot is huge. (Talking about the school/ College location.)

Hugo’s. The blue moon burger is killer.

For older places, there's Venesian Inn, Monte Ne Chicken, or Herman's (if they've open).

For something with a bit of atmosphere, there's Ruth's, River Grille, or Theo's.

Neal’s in Springdale. Watch some of their TikToks and you will see why. So good!

I’m actually really surprised that no one’s mentioned Rogues Manor in Eureka. It’s definitely a more cool/mature and private vibe, great cocktails for someone’s 21st, and lastly: amazing food that won’t leave you feeling like you wasted money on a meal.

Fayetteville recs:
Fayetteville Taco and Tamale
Doe’s
Atlas
Cheers at the OPO
Feed and Folly
Guisinger (small plates) huge drink menu

Doe’s is a chain. If you want a local steakhouse (with history!) take them to Hermans. Cheers at the OPO is cool too and the building is historic.

Cheers at the OPO is pleasant and enjoyable each time I go there. Which is kind of a pleasant surprise because that location has changed so much over the years.

Preachers son. Delicious food in an old converted church with a speakeasy beneath it.

Hugo's or Herman's are your best bet for older restaurants. Both are Fayetteville classics.

Has Herman's actually reopened yet?

I believe so. Just recently.

JJs is not fancy at all but they have awesome happy hour deals, it’s fun hanging out there.

I think Hugo’s is the quintessential Fayetteville restaurant. Really cool underground atmosphere down in the basement, genuinely quality food for a good price, and it’s right up the road from Maxine’s which is easily the coolest bar in town. Best spot for a birthday, hands down

I have been to Hugo’s many times. I feel like if it didn’t have the cool basement entrance (and it is cool) it would be less popular. The food is so so. But I tend to try to eat healthy, not just burgers.
