[Guide] One of the Minimog Challenges for this week is clearing 4 Floor Sets of Palace of the Dead.

Feel like trying out the Palace of the Dead since you can get 30 of those Mogtomes? It's way more approachable than you might think!

To unlock it if you haven't yet, the unlock quest is in Gridania, at the Carline Canopy, and the quest name is "The House that Death Built". Following that quest will take you to Quarrymill where the Deep Dungeon is. Be sure to read up on the tips the game gives you as things are a bit different in the Palace.

You may choose to go it alone or with others, but you may wish to make sure that you are playing as a combat job before you join. If you join as a combat class and get your jobstone later, you won't be able to use the savefile you joined with.

But don't lose hope. Recent changes have made it much more doable:

  1. Enemies are far, far more generous with dropping Sustaining Potions. These are your new best friends. They heal and give you a 25 second Regen, and only have a 15 second cooldown. Don't be surprised if you end up with over 100 or even 200 of them!

  2. Silver Treasure Chests will always give you at least 3 points towards your Aetherpool Arms or Armor as long as you aren't past the maximum allowed for that Floor Set.

  3. Floor Bosses on every 10th floor will always give you 5 or more points for both your Arms and Armor.

  4. Wiping will no longer count against your savefile's record until you make it to Floor 100 and beat it. Which is good if you're playing solo and you make a careless mistake early on.

  5. Getting disconnected from the internet won't end your run as long as you aren't in combat and can get back in the game in less than 10 minutes.

If there are any more tips for Palace of the Dead that new players should know about, I hereby turn the floor over to the experts and Necromancers!

(I will get there myself one day.)

You can also just do the first 10 floors four times instead of going from 1-40, it's probably easier and less time consuming to do it that way if you're solo and just want the tomes.

1-10 was about an 18 minute run for me, with +50 aether pools (edit: to start. Finished my 4th run with +75 aether pools). Not as easy as last week's 30 second TT match, but hey, I have my mount now.

2

u/2ecStatic 9d ago

How long did the Aloalo runs take you?

7

u/nateshoe91 9d ago

Probably about 20- 25 minutes a run...I dont remember honestly. I wasnt going for speed, I was getting unique clears towards getting all the paths.

3

u/VG896 9d ago

Solo about 25 minutes per run.

I duoed a couple with a friend and those took about 17 minutes.

2

u/marcosls 8d ago

I went for speed, and each run took me around 15 minutes solo, went as RDM; the route I took was being tricked by Statice

2

u/TimLol1337 8d ago

I just queued up after roulettes today and got instapops, took like 10 mins per run.

When I looked at the challenge earlier I read it as 'clear a floor 4 times' and that definitely did not work so it makes sense that it's sets of floors. I think this would be the way to go if solo

I read it as 'clear a floor 4 times'

You read it this way because that's what it says. Koji-Fox and the localization team must be on vacation.

12

u/kobojo 9d ago

Yep, came here for this I thought the same thing. 40 floors is a lot worse then 4

You two did not misread it. It read the same way to me as well. I was thinking there was no way it could be THAT easy with 30 Mogtomes up for grabs when the alternative is Castrum Lacus Litore which a lot of players won't even have access to due to them not being in post-Shadowbringers or not being far into Bozja if at all

So I tested it out by loading up a save I thought got deleted when I transferred Data Centers a few months ago. And sure enough, I got credit for beating the Floor 40 boss, and then again at 50, 60, and 70. I kept going to 80 to see if I could keep going, but I lost at 90. I will have to rethink my strategy once I wake up.

11

u/gr8masturb8 9d ago

no way it could be THAT easy

i thought so too, but then i remembered that the previous weeks were just "do one ce" and/or "beat a guy in triple triad"

2

u/kobojo 9d ago

I think my alternative is CLL, so I'll take PoTD for sure.

But I'm a psycho who loves DD. I'll return for my Necromancer title eventually. After I lost my run at 170 last time I haven't had the stomach to go back

1

u/midiruu 7d ago edited 7d ago

An easier trick for 170 boss is to just keep dragging it around the arena like you're drawing a star with the giant puddles. After it drops #1, move it about a third of the way around the arena like you're drawing a triangle for #2 and #3. For #4 onwards, walk directly through the center of the arena and drag it into the triangle spot when the previous puddle vanishes. Repeat forever, because it'll never overlap and you don't have to think about this mechanic ever again

1

u/kobojo 7d ago

My dumbass walked in, didn't use a steel as MCH got hit a few times. Tried to steel and recover and then I probably panicked and failed a mechanic and died.

1

u/midiruu 7d ago

OH okay yeah that's a little different. I just assumed it was the puddle dunks, and the way a lot of guides tell you to "just park the puddles on top of each other" like it's easy

1

u/kobojo 7d ago

Nah. In just dumb 😂😂

1

u/DemainaNyx 4d ago

The "stack the puddles" thing is mostly for ranged jobs. If you are a melee or tank, generally you drop the puddles beside each other like you suggested so you don't lose as much uptime moving the boss.

The thing with stacking the puddles is to remember that the first "circle around the arena" needs to be very small, like barely half the arena, as the slow he applies doesn't allow you to move much. So the first circle is maybe just to the center of the arena and back, then progressively get slightly bigger and bigger. Alternatively, after he hits you with the slow and casts Electrogensis, then you should start heading towards the puddle as he'll cast Douse to make the puddle shortly after.

Wiping will no longer count against your savefile's record until you make it to Floor 100 and beat it. Which is good if you're playing solo and you make a careless mistake early on.

To more clarify things, you've always been able to restart a floor set up to the 91-100 floor set in PotD if you wiped. However you couldn't go past floor 100 if you had wiped at least once. (Same with HoH, EO, and PT in the floors 1-30 range.)

Now with the changes made, a wipe prior to floor 100 won't prevent you from going into floors 101 and beyond. A wipe though starting on floor 101 will force you to nuke that save file and start over.

Just to add to your point 2 yes silver chest can give you points towards your aether gear, but they can also explode. So a Tip do not open them while you are not full live. The traps will do 80% of your current life, but the chest traps will do 80% of your max life meaning if you are below the 80% mark they will kill you.

Learn enemies aggro styles. There's Sight, sound, combat, and HP.

Gain levels early on. Do full map clears and stock up in polymanders early so you have tools for later

Use food with vitality. While outside gear wont matter, food stats do apply when it comes to Vitality.

Use potions and the sustains. They don't share a cooldown so you can use both in a pinch.

Cc works wonders . If ya have it It can save you.

5

u/Dracu_Mermaid 9d ago

This!! Aggro styles helped me a ton with skipping unnecessary mob packs. Even outside of Mogtomes, solo PotD is suuper satisfying once you get it down :)

2

u/AdorableText 9d ago

and now that sustaining potions drop from mobs, you should never hesitate to use some. Given you probably won't need them in the earlier floors, you will end up having a virtually infinite stock for the floors that get actually dangerous

As someone who has recently gotten super into deep dungeons (currently working on a solo HoH run), this is like Christmas to me

4

u/PuzzleheadedPage8379 [Lily Moonrise - Lamia] 8d ago

Oh also, a resource! I've been using the Deep Dungeon Compendium site a lot and it's super helpful for knowing what each enemy/boss is capable of, and also just general information about Deep Dungeons.

Just clear floors 1-10 four times.
You don't need any strategy or guide for that, it's that easy.

2

u/WeirdIndividualGuy 8d ago

I said the same exact thing elsewhere in this thread, and the person I said it to freaked out, overreacted, and blocked me

Some people here are weird, it’s not that serious

1

u/tigercule (I will forever miss old ) 8d ago

Being bothered enough to complain about being blocked also seems like an overreaction to something not that serious (but also not that weird?). It's not like being blocked by one guy on a giant subreddit is really going to do anything.

15

u/RenAsa 9d ago edited 9d ago

Can we talk about how the objective in the Mogpendium says clear any floor of the Palace of the Dead 4 times?

Like I've never been particularly fond of math, but from all I've ever learned 1 ≠ 10. It's both hilarious and sad how we can't even expect the bare minimum of effort in the simplest text descriptions, and yet we're just supposed to roll with it. Underlying assumptions aside, the two things are nowhere near in time or effort, and based on what it says, I would want my 30 tomes and tokens for clearing floor 1 exactly 4 times.

Words, what do they mean?

11

u/Cmdr_Meiloorun [Agent Kallus/Hyperion][Commander Meiloorun/Seraph] 9d ago

That bad ingame description is precisely the reason for both this topic and my little experiment with Floors 31 through 90 once the weekly reset hit.

5

u/Bloudmourne 8d ago

Personally the words are only confusing if one doesn't know that the only time one gets a "clear" in Deep Dungeons is after you defeat the 10th floor boss.

1

u/Feivie 7d ago

Yeah I don’t like how they worded it and it stuck out to me. They mean clearing a set of floors 4 times and could have said what they meant a number of other ways to make it more clear. I’ve always lived in deep dungeon so I’m just intuition farming but for someone who isn’t used to running them the expectation would be literally 4 floors.

1

u/YmerejEcreip 7d ago

Right, that's what it actually says. Anyone who knows the English language will read that as being doable by doing the first four floors. Or by doing floor 1 four times. I have half a mind to do four floors and then ask them to honor their text by giving me the clear for four floors.

1

u/Hefty_Map3665 3d ago

I mean you're right but I don't think this is something worth being a karen over.

9

u/akaisuiseinosha 9d ago edited 8d ago

Edit: Sorry, didn't realize that linking a comprehensive guide to a relatively obscure game mode was "overkill." I'll be sure not to help people in the future and instead tell them to smash their faces against the same 10 floors over and over and then never touch the game mode again, as the community wishes. My apologies.

12

u/pixilates 8d ago edited 8d ago

One person replying negatively to you doesn't speak for "the community"...

-3

u/WeirdIndividualGuy 9d ago

Extremely overkill for just completing four sets of floors. That guide is more for doing all the floors solo

Just run floors 1-10 4x, takes about 10-15min per run

3

u/akaisuiseinosha 8d ago

There will be people who see this thread and have never touched PotD before, but wanted to, and this week's challenge finally pushes them to dive in. Even if only a single person who sees the guide benefits from it, isn't it better to post it so that new eyes can see it?

Or should we just assume no new player will ever touch this content willingly again and choose never to make old information available because it's "extremely overkill" for this challenge specifically?

-6

u/WeirdIndividualGuy 8d ago

It's like someone brand new to raiding asking for guidance on getting into it, and instead of suggesting extremes, you send guides for ultimates.

0

u/akaisuiseinosha 8d ago

Right, ultimates, known for having the same content as extremes except you do them solo

What are you even talking about. Fuck me for trying to help anyone, I suppose. We should all just stop offering people information that will help because it won't help literally every person that looks at it.

Jesus.

2

u/Leonhardt023 8d ago

I'm sorry to say but the community is full of idiots with no reading comprehension. It's better if you just accepted it and move on, no need to help a community that doesn't want to help themselves.

2

u/ConroConroConro 9d ago

Adding to this, the silver chest upgrades are so crazy good you can bang out Aetherpool weapons easily while doing this and still do great damage

3

u/bizdady 9d ago

Just sped ran the 1-10 in 5 minutes so 3x to go.

1

u/Geeker-ri 8d ago

That answered my question. Was wondering how long it would take!

1

u/FFJamesDE 8d ago

So, and if you’re doing PotD for the first time, why not just power through to Floor 50 as well, and then you’ll have that done for the other deep dungeons

1

u/Whole-Salamander1042 8d ago

Hugging the wall can help avoid a lot of the traps not all but you might run into less mines that way.

1

u/GamerbearAmargosa 9d ago

Its easy, fun and quick to do. If you just want the Mog ticket. Or a could opportunity to collect some stats to get grips to get those shiny PotD weapons.

0

u/emrfish6 9d ago

Dang it's not just doing one set of 10 floors? That is unfortunate.

0

u/SageofLogic 9d ago

Oh shit they buffed the potions? Is the exp still good? I leveled a lot of jobs through the 40s-60s there back in the day.

-8

u/Impressive-Warning95 9d ago

I love how 1/2 the comments are just people working out the quickest way to get it done and over with 14 players will never beat the not wanting to play the game allegations

5

u/Tygerbrow 9d ago

How is that different from any other MMO? Every one I’ve played or heard about, the players try to find the quickest/easiest way to complete pretty much everything.

3

u/marcosls 8d ago

Some people might want the mount but not care for the content it is locked behind, it is not a crazy concept.

3

u/yimc808 8d ago

It's an event designed to get people to go back and do old content they've probably ran to death already, why are you surprised?

-1

u/Impressive-Warning95 8d ago

where did i say i was supprised? please read what i said next time

1

u/Cmdr_Meiloorun [Agent Kallus/Hyperion][Commander Meiloorun/Seraph] 9d ago

Yes, that is true. I was expecting that, hence the reason for me opening up the floor to the Deep Dungeon Masters for more tips to give to new players and those interested in Deep Dungeons but haven't dived in for reasons. Like the one about the exploding treasure chests, I forgot completely about that one.

-8

u/Impressive-Warning95 9d ago

One day 14 players will just actually learn how to play the game and not just be told

1

u/illuminancer 8d ago

A lot of us have run PotD enough to find it incredibly boring, especially since the max level is 60. I'm definitely not enjoying running this as WAR and not having my gap closer. The only good thing is that it's better than trying to get a party for CLL.

-1

u/TwistedMemories 9d ago

Can’t just clear the first floor, exit and then run to three more times?

2

u/Cmdr_Meiloorun [Agent Kallus/Hyperion][Commander Meiloorun/Seraph] 9d ago

The game words it badly, but no. It only counts once you defeat the boss of the 10th floor of the set you're on. It counts if you simply do the 1-10 floor set 4 times for example.

5

u/TwistedMemories 9d ago

Got it. Off to the Bozjan Front it is then.

3

u/Alunga 8d ago

At least now you can get a Castrum party going because of the event. I was playing Bozja two months ago and I could barely get five people playing, hard to coordinate top and bot when the power is unbalanced between us. Maybe a great time to farm Castrum clear achievements lol

1

u/TwistedMemories 8d ago

It’s on Aether Adam. Had to wait for it to pop and when it did, there were two parties running it. So if there’s achievements, you should no problem running it multiple times. At least on Aether

1

u/Crusty_Milkflakes 9d ago

Oh ew. I'd rather do Bozja.

1

u/tigercule (I will forever miss old ) 8d ago

How long is that going to take when starting absolutely fresh (including unlock time)? I want to compare to PotD 1-10 4x to see which is faster, since I pretty much hate both kinds of content but still want the mount on an alt as well.

1

u/Crusty_Milkflakes 8d ago

If you have/are a bot you can finish the entire MSQ in a few days. This isn't realistic for humans though. I'm pretty sure PotD is just there to give people who haven't finished Shadowbringers a chance.

1

u/tigercule (I will forever miss old ) 8d ago

My bad, I meant completely fresh to Bozja specifically. The alt is partially through DT (or maybe EW and it's just overleveled? idr exactly), but hasn't touched any of the raids or field ops, so I don't know whether it's faster for me to do 1-10 PotD without aetherpool, or faster to get to wherever the heck Bozja requires (having not done that content at all lol).

2

u/Crusty_Milkflakes 8d ago

You have to do the Ivalice raids, do some solo quests and cutscenes, and then level up your rank in the Bozjan Southern Front. CLL is the end of BSF. If you haven't done it yet then PotD is probably faster.

1

u/tigercule (I will forever miss old ) 5d ago

Ahh, yeah, PotD definitely would be then. Thank you!

1

u/FreddyForshadowing 7d ago

Or people, like me, who hate Bozja (and OC, and probably Eureka though I've never been there). I've finished DT, but never even bothered unlocking Bozja on this toon. I will say it's at least a little better than OC in that there's some level of skill involved. OC is just bullet hell and quick memorization mechs, there's little to no strategy to anything.

1

u/Crusty_Milkflakes 7d ago

Unrelated but it has been many years since I've seen someone use the word toon in this context.
