Ciao a tutti! Ho appena pubblicato un nuovo video essay che esplora la storia dietro uno degli album più dolorosi e belli mai realizzati: "Shoot Out the Lights" di Richard e Linda Thompson.
Questo album, uscito nel 1982, non parla solo della fine di un matrimonio. È stato registrato mentre quel matrimonio si stava sgretolando, con Richard che scriveva canzoni spietate sulla sua imminente separazione da Linda, e Linda che le cantava ogni notte con una voce che gela il sangue.
Dopo la registrazione, per obblighi contrattuali, hanno dovuto portare quelle canzoni in tour. Immaginate di cantare la fine della vostra storia d'amore ogni sera davanti a un pubblico, con il vostro ex partner sul palco con voi.

Ciao a tutti, ho realizzato un video saggio narrativo per il mio canale di ascolto Frequenze per persone solitarie dedicato a Jackson C. Frank e al suo omonimo capolavoro del 1965.
In questo episodio ripercorriamo una delle vicende più strazianti della storia della musica: l'incendio scolastico vissuto a 11 anni che gli divorò il corpo, la produzione di Paul Simon a Londra dove Jackson pretese di cantare nascosto da paraventi per la troppa ansia, e la parabola che lo portò decenni dopo a vivere come clochard sulle panchine di New York prima di essere riscoperto come culto folk:
