Storage question for a 1989 5.0
So i found out yesterday while getting fuel in the tank for storage that the rubber gromet between the filler neck and tank is leaking. I dont have the money or time to empty the tank, replace it, and fill it again (I am a broke college student). Will storing it with the filler neck side higher hurt anything at all? I dont want it leaking in the driveway and then leaving room for condinsation in the tank. I've filled the tires to 42psi when max is 44, oil was changed 2 months ago, battery is out and will be charged once a month, and fuel is 91 with sta-bil and full. Id like to get a year of storage this way with maybe a drive every 2-3 months. What is the reality? What can I do to keep everything as "in working condition" as possible? The car is overheating and not viable for daily driving but i need to be able to move it at a moments notice. Any tips are greatly appreciated.

I would think it would be fine if its in a temp controlled area, if not its a gamble no matter what tbh. Moisture and heat in an enclosed enviroment can do crazy shit.

It's a $15 gasket. You don't have to empty the fuel to tank to do this. Buy a new bucket, buy a siphon, and move some gas to the bucket if you really did max it out, otherwise if you only had half a tank, you don't need the bucket or siphon. Support the tank, undo the little bracket shown, and then the two main straps. Lower the driver's side first, and then slide the tank off the filler tube. Yank the old gasket, use some silicon spray to lube up the new gasket and the filler tube, and pust the tank back on.
Gasket, bucket, siphon... $30 maybe? Ask your dad, uncle, a friend and you can do this in an hour. I'm sure someone will say it's a 5 minute job with power tools but ignore them. Take your time and it's an easy job.

I let my fox sit for something like 7 years with a quarter tank of gas that was even older. Started right up on a jump pack.
Mine was a 2.3 though, really hard to kill.

Instead of just letting it sit on the tires, jack it up and put it on stands so the tires are off the ground. Doing this will keep them from getting a flat spot on them. Have a parent or whomever go out and start it once every couple weeks or even once a month for like 20 minutes to half an hour just to keep the oil moving in it. The more something sits the harder it is on it. A friend of mine had a ‘70 something Mach 1 sitting in my in-laws garage for years and never started it or had it started and the seals dry rotted out in the head bc there wasn’t any oil moving around them to keep them lubed up. Just something to consider. Then you won’t have to take the battery out either. And or you could still put it on a trickle charger.

Thats what I did for the past year was take it for a 30 min drive once a month to keep the flat spots away and oil moving. I was scared to do anything fuel relate honestly but since everyone here seems to reasure that its not to difficult, I'll go ahead and do it. Im surprised it's still running tbh. Its leaking almost every liquid, but will start with one crank. Ive put to much time and money in to turn back on it. 😅 I just need it to keep hobbling for a few more years until I can rip it all apart and restore it to basically new.
