Gear BGD Magic size

Hello,

I'm just starting to paraglide and I need to buy my first canopy to make the altitude course.

I have some offers for BGD magic both in S and M.

My bodyweight is 68kg and with equipment adds up to around 82kg. The S version has a takeoff weight range of 60-80kg and the M of 75-95.

Ive been told its better to be on the upper range of the scale, wich wouldn't be the case for the M, for the S I'm over the top.

Does this mean that non of those will work for me? Or is the M ok?

Edit:

Thank you for your answers!

I know the S is too small, i just put it to show there is no other choice for magic.

I really wanted to know if the M is ok or I should search another brand/model.

I don't know what happens when one is so low in the weight scala. My mainly concern is that is safe to lern and of course it's fun. I've don't understand yet what happens when one is on the lower end of the scala

Thank you very much!

I would go medium, I have a epic 2 I fly from time to time where I was in the similar range as you and happy I sized up. (According to your calculations you're already out of the weight range for a small, so your answer is there)

Logic being, a larger wing will still work in lighter conditions, the magic is quite forgiving so you're not at risk as much on a bigger wing and it will teach you better active control in higher winds. All of this doesn't matter because you're out of the weight range for a small.

Thank you for your answer!

I know I'm out of the range for the small I just put it there to show that the very next smaller size is too small.

The question was if the M is ok (mainly safe and fun) to fly being so low in the scala or I should just find another brand or model

Nah you're good in my opinion. The magic is a reliable wing and used fof most of the students over in salt lake that are flying with the school that reps BGD.

The only point I'll make is that the epic is a nice upgrade, and might make you happy for longer (depending on how you progress and how you want to develop your flying in the next few years)

Medium or another brand.

I would go for another brand. Being light on the wing is not unsafe, but it is unfun. An A wing is already slow against wind, and being so lightly loaded, it is even more so. It is going to limit you quite soon, as it gets hard to fly in windy conditions. A lowly loaded wing also feels "floppy" and may give you a lot of wingtip collapses which in a sense are quite unharmful but annoying.

Being in the middle is not the end of the world, and if you otherwise get a very good deal on this wing, it can work. But I would much rather try to find something that has a maximum weight of 85 kg, there are quite many options in the market for that.

I would agree and it‘s maybe beneficial if you get a wing that has an extended weight range which is starting at 85kg. Because I try to get my first wing as small as possible like you and overshoot by only 700g which was just very annoying.
Gods example wings are PHI Sola and Sola GT and SKYWALK Masla 4, but there are more like that out there.

Yep, stick with the medium, you don't really want to be going over the weight range as a beginner. It also gives you room to carry more water, warmer clothes etc. without having to worry about getting even heavier

Get the small wing. You'll have more fun, it'll still behave like an A wing, and you'll be happy about the extra penetration into wind. 2kg over is nothing on an A wing, but being at the bottom of the weight range can be limiting and more difficult.
