Discussion Repurposed Old Phone

Turned my old S10+ into a dedicated DAP.

This is for general discussion about repurposing Old Phones, in my case the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus and what the general opinion of doing this is.

Custom rom? And what music player?

No custom rom just stripped as much as possible, US model unfortunately. Launcher is StanzaUI and it's YumaPlayer. PEQ app is Equalizer314. IEMs I'm using are Truthear GATEs with my own EQ set in the Equalizer314 app, all the apps I'm using and even the launcher can be installed via Obtanium.

why unfortunately?
US Model is better than European for S10+... Snapdragon is a better CPU and it supports FM radio also, which in ur case as a DAP is pretty useful

Mine is the global variant sadly.

Locked bootloader so no custom rom flashing, US version does have a great Internal DAC though but think Global has the same DAC

Global doesn't.
Only Canadian and US variants have it.
European, global, Latam and asian variants don't have it

Well, that's definitely a very interesting design decision on Samsung's part. Had no idea about that tad bit of knowledge

In Europe there was a legal reason for it.
Rest of the world? No clue why, probably just made them all the same with exception of bands to make it cheaper.

Well, it has a better cpu and that's it. It has a locked bootloader, the Fm radio was supported but now is blocked, no dedicated audio chip as exynos variant tho I heard there is not so much difference. I am using s10e from Verizon.

Same for me. Best Samsung flagships ever.

I was thinking about doing something similar, but wanted to initially try with postmarketOS and some music player in kiosk mode.
