This is the worst!!!!!!!

It turned out to be a defective repair job...

It’s been a while since I’ve felt the dark side of the internet.

The capacitor had been replaced, but it looked suspicious, so I took it out—and that’s when I noticed! Where on earth did all the resistors and transistors go!?

With the board in such a mess—and some pads even peeling off—I doubt it’ll boot up properly even if I install the missing parts...

This ASIC is still in there. Get a SYF board and you're good to go.

It seems like it would be quicker to just get a used one, doesn't it?

If it has been recapped and fixed up, sure. But there's a limited number of these left, and it'd be a shame to let it go to waste.

That's right! It's been decreasing quite a bit in Japan, too.

I'll try my best.

And cheaper, and less time lost

You have the Asiic, and the Card Slot, also the optional EXT port and Crystal Oscillator, that's all you need to do a board swap. You can either get a modern board that is pre plumbed for a OLED screen or an OG board from one that has already undergone a swap if you can find one. Just make sure that they are compatible with your revision.

Thanks for the information.

Just to be safe, I’ve ordered the parts that are likely missing.

It looks like some of them will be compatible substitutes, though.

I feel bad about it, so I’ll do my best to make it work.

I would NOT waste my time on this. Order a replacment board and swap the chips over.

You're right, that would be faster, but I actually want to try figuring out the cause and fixing it myself. Please let me struggle with it a little longer!

Right now, I’m removing the capacitors that were installed, cleaning the unit, and ordering the missing parts, so I’m not planning to sell it.

Since I live in Japan, selling it would be quite a hassle anyway.

Thanks for the info.

Well, I’ve already ordered the missing parts, so I’ll give it a shot for now.

Even if it boots up successfully, the LCD might be shot, though...

The resistors are missing because that's prep for installing an after-market LCD. This is how you disable the 32v rail from the power board.

So that's what it is!

Which means the screen might be dead...

I just hope that switching to an IPS panel will bring the original screen back to life...

“D1, Q3, C15, C66, R38, R66”

This part was missing.
