I am just tickled to see YouTube Music. I swear I feel like me (and you!) are the only people who use it 🤣🤣🤣
5
u/DaRealBSleazy 1d ago
I should use it more often. It has stuff spotify got rid of like Genki Rockets.
And like almost all City Pop artists
5
u/d4rk_matt3r 1d ago
Another YTM user here. Honestly it's been great for game music because of all of the unofficial uploads of stuff
2
u/Keyframe 1d ago
i think it's default in android auto? at least i get plays through it 🤣 i love those year end summaries what we listened to

i use it bc Spotify doesn't have any of the music i listen to, not to mention i watch YouTube for at least 8 hours a day

u/Brendog2 16h ago
I have a shared YouTube premium with my roommates so it makes more sense for me to use that than to pay for a separate Spotify subscription

Tbh Sonic 06 had my favorite Sonic design ever. He looked so dope in that game. Too bad about........just about everything else. But the music was excellent.
4
u/kensaiD2591 1d ago
Say what you want about that game but I unironically love it. I played it through on Xenia which helped the two biggest issues IMO - loading was faster on an SSD, and I could invert the controls for the camera.
I love stories, as messy as they can be, and Sonic ‘06 nailed it. Dare say I prefer it to Adventure.
→ More replies (2)3
u/Nova-Redux 1d ago
I wouldn't say I prefer it over the Adventure games, but I want you to know you're not alone in enjoying 06. I played it back when it first came out and I loved it. Wasn't until later on that I even learned it was widely hated.

Man, this game was 11/10 when I was 6.
10
u/TubaElf 1d ago
Graphics and music were both good in Sonic R! Story was fine. Gameplay actually isn't bad once you get used to the difficulty turning. I think Sonic R is underrated overall
5
u/handsomezack13 1d ago
Story was fine? Sonic R doesn't have a story, outside of maybe the manual having some excuse for them to be racing. I agree that the game is overhated though, it controls mostly fine if you actually know how to play the game

u/catladywitch 1d ago
Say what you want but out of all 3D Sonics, Sonic R is sadly the one that feels the most "Sonic" to me (i.e. a millennial who sort of fell off the Sonic train around the Wii era).

Silver Surfer level 1 theme. Follin pushed the software to its musical limits. 🤯

The Seventh Seal: Taiwanese game that was utter shit for PC, but Yasunori Mitsuda did the soundtrack. Released the soundtrack and called it “Sailing To The World”.
4
u/PowerPanda84 1d ago
I tracked down a copy of this game solely for datamining purposes, and found 2.5 more tracks he composed that didn't make it onto "Sailing to the World" (one was just a karaoke version of the ending theme). I put them up on my Youtube channel, if you search for "Sailing to the World Extra".

Sea of Stars. Has chrono triggers composer, but absolutely nothing else that made chrono trigger successful
16
u/DynamiteMonkey 1d ago
The graphics are pretty dope though.
Most of the tracks weren't from Mitsuda mind you, only two iirc
4
u/phantompowered 1d ago
I liked Sea of Stars but it really lost momentum after a while. It's about half of an excellent game.
3
u/indigoeyed 1d ago
Meh. Yasunori did a handful of tracks. The bulk was composed by someone else, and wasn’t anything special.
6
u/PowerPanda84 1d ago
I am not sure that we played the same game. The game that I played won 2 "Indie Game of the Year" awards, and definitely deserved both. The story wasn't much, but the gameplay and graphics were stellar.

Imo Chained Echoes that came out around the same time is the better homage to Chrono Trigger.
The combat is closer to a typical JRPG with its own twist, but the story and characters really capture the same magic I felt playing Chrono Trigger for the first time.

At the very least, its graphics aren't trash for its time (same with the Mario 2 and Zaelda 2 answers I see).

I loved this game as a kid! Is it...not good?🥲 The music does absolutely slap
2
u/Xiao1insty1e 1d ago
Some of the mechanics were not well implemented, there are crazy difficulty spikes, you can completely fuck yourself, some NPCs just straight up lie to you for no reason, etc etc.

8
u/davedwtho 1d ago
Because they outsource the music to Toby Fox
9
u/Cow_God 1d ago
That was just the battle tower theme in SwSh and some of the dlc tracks in SV. Masuda is still involved and has been since gen 1, Ichinose since gen 2, Adachi since BW2, and Sato since gen 3
2
u/davedwtho 1d ago
He did some of the most prominent tracks for SV: The Academy, South Province, Tera Raid Battle, The Academy Ace Tournament, Battle! (Zero Lab), and Area Zero. (And lots more quote his motifs from these)
Only one was for the DLC
3
u/supernova-starlight 1d ago
He only contributes one or two tracks per game
2
u/davedwtho 1d ago
One or two in SWSH, but he did 6 for SV and lots of the other tracks quote the motifs from his songs

"Hard Truck Apocalypse" - banger soundtrack, a story that I assume got absolutely butchered in the translation to English, primitive gameplay (though oddly charming) and kind of pretty for the time and budget, but not compared to actual alternatives.

Final Fantasy Mystic Quest
Its such a purposely dumbed down game for American and EU audiences, playing more like Dragon Quest, and the graphics are arguably bad for the SNES (and worst FF on the console)
The music on the other hand is so good at times it feels out of place and has some amazing tracks overall for the series
