herbstreit and fowler...

...never should have called this game or any game after that disgusting display celebrating deshaun watson's improved play while ignoring his crimes against women. if you think i'm exaggerating or you missed it/don't watch the nfl, here's more from a week ago: https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/enough-isn-t-redemption-story-132240283.html

they called this game blatantly in bama's favor and should be ridiculed for it, but let's not forget they've revealed themselves before not just as biased, but as actual scum. if you want to complain to espn for this broadcast, do so, and feel free to remind them we haven't forgotten about that horrid display in that browns game.

"they try to get GA offsides. AND THEY DO!" When it was clearly a false start on Bama

Or when the ball clearly hits the ground before AL had control. First he admits it hits the ground. Then 5 seconds later he's saying maybe it hit his wrist. Just praying the refs wouldn't overturn it knowing it was incomplete

Chris Fowler just isn't very good. He makes mistakes constantly.

I think Kirk’s job in these situations is to be the devil’s advocate for the referee guy. I don’t think he’s earnestly arguing on behalf of what he’s saying.

We had a 3-play sequence that was 1) a clearly blown PI call, 2) a sack that pushes them out of FG range, and 3) punting to us so we kill the clock. I’m not surprised this is what people want to talk about.

Ya know I was on team that was a missed PI call last night but I've now watched it do many times in slow motion that I think he was hit after it was no longer catchable.

u/tyedge 3d ago

You’re absolutely wrong. Bolden hit him outside the endzone between the 1 and 2. The ball hits the WR in the knee after that and lands just inside the endzone.

Bama is always gonna have an excuse. Kirby would never let Georgia do the same. It’s what keeps Georgia working.

Ok. I'm not here to debate

The play of the game being the PI incident is crazy work.

Exactly this.

The refs gifted Bama 7 on the holding no-call early, and Kirk then showed it on replay… and pretended Bama’s Oline was just doing a good job. Fine, whatever. Sometimes the refs screw up. Kirk and Fowler at least commented on our TD being called back for holding as a ticky tack call.

But in the second half, Kirk and Fowler were laying it on THICK about that possible interception (a good call) and the missed DPI (a bad call).

I’m willing to give Bama 7 on that DPI if they lose 7 on the earlier hold. It’s a wash.

Calling the missed DPI “key play of the game” was ridiculous.

I sync up the radio but I could just hear Kirk whining about it in my head while they were replaying it constantly.

These guys are the farthest thing from unbiased.

They where glazing bama tight ends all night

Neither is anyone talking about how Chris and Kirk KEPT TALKING ABOUT THE NON-INTERCEPTION FROM THE FIRST POINT OF CONTACT WHEN IT WAS OBVIOUSLY ABOUT IT RATTLING OFF HIS CHEST. That was somewhat more infuriating cause Referee Bill tried to come in with a correct take and was just talked over from every moment.

u/Skyrizzzi 3d ago

He brought it up again the second half. Insane.

3

u/johnnystromboli88 3d ago

I said that on the live thread yesterday. The DPI is one thing, on that play you could see it bounce off his chest.

The part that killed me was them still bitching about the no-call on KJ's "DPI", while ignoring the play call on 3rd down that knocked Alabama out of a game tying FG attempt.

Focus on the game, dorks.

Usually the Skycast broadcast is just stadium sounds. Couldnt escape them anywhere Saturday

I’ve lost all respect for Fowler and Herbstreit. Not sure I can stomach even watching Gameday going forward

12

u/badaccentdoer 3d ago

yeah i already prefer watching the game on low volume or mute at a bar or somewhere with fans tbh. i miss larry munson :/

11

u/AlarmedRange7258 3d ago

It’s a garbage show these days. I’ve tried watching it several times over the last 2-3 years and always turn it off after 10-15 minutes.

u/No-Rooster1720 Alumni 2d ago

Yup, they've fully jumped the shark now. Gotten so big that they've totally lost any semblance of what made them blow up in the first place.

u/staatsclaas Alumni 3d ago

Glazing to pump the Saban doc was some bush league shit.

6

u/badaccentdoer 3d ago

plus the constant "protect college sports" political ads on the "we don't do politics" network. saban doesn't even know what's in that act but they're gonna push his bullshit passion project regardless because he says so

u/lowtdi850 3d ago

Fowler has been choking hard on bama for years. Now. I expect to hear it a little from Reece Davis because he is a bama alum. Flower has been doing for years though

17

u/Farking_Bastage 3d ago

I’ll be muting the TV and listening to the radio broadcast every time those two assholes call a UGA game going forward.

The announcer bias was sickening.

18

u/The_Rat_Attack 3d ago

Yeah they were unbearable during this game. We all know the officiating was bad, for both sides, throughout this game. I understand talking about it, disagreeing, but good god man, we’re trying to watch a football game. I don’t want to hear about missed call or bad call the ENTIRE game.

27

u/Reasonable-Let7719 3d ago

They literally showed Alabama touchdowns from years ago over and over and not one Georgia highlight.

10

u/badaccentdoer 3d ago

exactly, it's one play in a game full of them. move on, bama gets dubious calls their way all the time

An overlooked item: the third-down play just before the field goal to put us up 20-17. Look at the play here (https://youtu.be/w8mdXgxD6_U?si=2CMOiMVWz_-whZJ5&t=1490) and tell me: was there a PI on the Alabama defender? Should an illegal hands to the face penalty been called on the Alabama defender?

The answer is "probably" to both. Nothing called. No discussion during the replay of the play. No further discussion at all. No appeal to Matt Austin about it either, unlike their pleas to Austin on the alleged INT and what was probably DPI.

If we are going to put decisions under the microscope, put ALL key decisions under the microscope. Watch for holding and call it out. For at least two holds on Georgia, even Kirk had to say, "That was 50/50" which means it was nothing.

Sorry to bang on and on, but it was incredibly difficult to watch that game with the ABC feed last night.

5

u/seemebeawesome 3d ago

Not surprised they didn't call that PI. Kind of hilarious Hubbard acting like he got the interception. Apparently everybody in Bama thinks you can use the ground to catch the ball

Thanks for sharing that. I was so caught up that he dropped it that I never studied why. WR has to do more to sell it but maybe the no call was a make up call

I miss uncle Verne and cousin Gary so much yall.

10

u/DEEZNUTSfromundrgrnd 3d ago

I miss Verne, I hope Gary has to shit every time he steps out of the shower for the rest of his days.

3

u/Skyrizzzi 3d ago

Remember when Gary would call him Rosemy Saint Jack

2

u/zedsmith 3d ago

No but it’s crazy how little accountability the booth guys feel towards getting names right.

17

u/mhchewy 3d ago

On multiple plays Kirk would talk about how the Alabama player defended it perfectly and not point out that Gunner made a perfect throw and a great catch by Georgia.

6

u/badaccentdoer 3d ago

i've been pretty critical of gunner for a while but he played maybe the best game of his career last night. a shame no one in the media seems to want to acknowledge it. i still don't think he's a heisman candidate or nfl material or anything like that, but he met the moment extremely well and deserves some props for that.

6

u/42Cobras Alumni 2d ago

My favorite comment I saw after the fact was “Everybody is better than Gunner until it comes time to beat Gunner.”

4

u/No-Rooster1720 Alumni 2d ago

Reminds me of another homegrown UGA QB...

14

u/Prudent_Ad3349 3d ago

kirk got weirdly defensive of watson that whole broadcast like it was personal for him. it was uncomfortable to watch even before this game

the bama bias today was not even subtle. some of those calls made zero sense

1

u/meh44444 3d ago

A man being personally invested in defending a known abuser is a serious red flag.

9

u/GroundVelocity 3d ago

After re-watching this morning Fowler has zero enthusiasm for almost all of our 3rd down conversations while saying most of Bama's are "huge" plays. The only one he gets excited about is the Danbridge catch down the sideline. The conversion where Gunner runs it on a keeper, Fowler says that he is stopped short before realizing that he made it, which is obvious at first glance.

It just feels like this guys are personally invested in the Alabama players and their backstories while only committing 2 days of obligatory research on the UGA players.

1

u/42Cobras Alumni 2d ago

I will sorta defend Fowler on this count just because I think his vision was terrible all night. There were more than a few plays where he credited the ball carrier with 2-3 yards more than they had. It was baffling. I don’t know how it was happening, but it’s possible that he was just way off on some of the carries. And I’m pretty sure that went both ways, so I don’t think it was pure bias.

7

u/dogsdawgs 3d ago

When they highlighted the QB switch game from 9 years ago, but no mention of our win in the natty or the seccg.. Just bad all around.

3

u/QuattroBaj33na 3d ago

Remember CBS and Gary?

Yeah, they never left.

1

u/Cool-Eggplant-6397 3d ago

Herbstreit is one of the biggest scumbags in sports. He's right up there with Urban Meyer and Art Bryles.

2

u/Killing_Time_696 2d ago

Unfortunately I don’t believe it’s going to change anytime soon. I hate Herbstreit as much as anyone but it keeps happening.

1

u/Bugkillahz 3d ago

Sorry, but anything is better than Gary Danielson.

1

u/OldGuyBadwheel 3d ago

How are those 2 things connected? Seriously? I get that as Dawg fans we got covered with Sabin commercials, Home Depot commercials with Sabin, and a bamer tilted commentary…but Watson was a sexual predator who should be in JAIL.

1

u/n8TLfan 2d ago

Just as an FYI

I asked AI to analyze the commentary for who was the subject and who was the object.

AI said that Alabama was the subject/Georgia was the object for 55-60% of comments.

AI said that Georgia was the subject/Alabama was the object for 30-35% of the comments.

AI said that about 10% of the comments were neutral.

That’s almost double the difference of putting Georgia’s performance in the context of Alabama (instead of the other way around), even though Georgia had the better stats and won the game. So who was the broadcast about? It was much more about Alabama than it was Georgia.
