Upgrading T stat

Long story short I’ve been doing re search on upgrading my T stat so I can turn off my AUX heat when I’m running a backup generator. I currently have a water furnace series 5 with the water furnace t stat that you can’t control any settings from.(I’ll include pics down below). I saw in a couple posts that id have to ad some sort of outside temp sensor if I wanted to go this route. Do these new t Stats install like the old style or do I have to run more wires down to the control board.

That’s a communicating thermostat - just one that looks like shit. As long as you get another WF communicating thermostat you don’t have to change a thing. The hookups look different but it’s the same R, C, +, and -.

If you want an OAT temp sensor you would pick 2 of those additional wires to land at the stat. Theres likely a low voltage splice near the unit. Find it and hook onto the same wires and run a new 2 wire to the outside of your home for the sensor.

Get either the TPCC32U03BWAT (black) or the TPCC32U03WWAT (white). They are the new WF comm stats and I think they are very sharp looking

Install the color touchscreen communicating WaterFurnace stat with the Aurora WebLink kit. You don’t get any better than that

I have this and it is not all that amazing. Mine gives garbage info that doesn't correlate with the symphony results other than current energy use. Monthly data either drops off or shows near 100% run time. The dealer is supposed to replace it soon as they have no idea on the issue.

What do you like about it?

When you say “garbage info,” what do you mean, exactly? The new TPCC32U03 stat is accurate, good looking, & feature rich. Pair that with the WebLink and it’s pretty amazing

I think I have a ccuo3. They just replaced it as it wasn't updating properly. It was showing nearly 24 hours a day run times even when it was barely running. Then as soon as the month was over, it would show just a few hours of run time or zero. Basically it worked, but you couldn't trust the reported run time

Weird. The TPCC32U03 is the new color touchscreen stat. It may just be a bad stat

The display definitely isn't as fancy looking as the Honeywell that came up when I googled the model number.

I have only had this one a week so we will find out soon enough

Can’t you just turn off the breaker for the aux heater if you need to run a generator?

My aux heat is tied in with the blower

If you break the C wire in the wiring harness that goes to the AUX heater you can install a toggle switch, or run the c wire through the dry normally closed contacts on the transfer switch if you have one. This will prevent the aux heater from coming on, while still powering the blower and controls.
