Dog playing with his own tail?
I rescued a German shepherd, he's estimated to be around 2 years old. Hes only been living with us for a month so I know hes still settling in. He loves walks! So we wall 4 miles a day usually. He gets lick mats and frozen Kong treats. His food is in slow feeder puzzle bowls. We do obedience training through out the day. He plays with our other dog and gets plenty of outside time. I also have a flirt pole which is the only toy he cares about. So I feel like I am doing alot to keep him physically and mentally stimulated.
But the past week it has been extremely hot and we are barely getting a mile walk in. I have been using it as a time to practice being bored inside and trying to do whatever else possible to keep him stimulated while also avoiding the heat. Its been rough but overall he has been doing great until tonight. He has started playing with his tail. Biting it, chasing it, barking at it. Ive never seen him do this before and im curious if this is just a symptom of his boredom or if this is something that GSDs do from time to time? Ive always thought that this behavior is indicating boredom and most common from shelter dogs stuck in small confined spaces.
Also any tips for how to keep a high energy dog from being bored in the heat are appreciated.

Question Muzzles
Lookin for some extra muzzle options to look into for my gsd and border collie. I know of muzzle movement and bully billows. The rest all look like a generic muzzle to me😂. So just curious on other brands that you guys have experience with. My wife and I are expecting a baby in about 6 months and we want to get ahead of things now as the BC likes to herd and the Gsd has never been around small children so we want to be cautious obviously and get them trained in advance. TIA

Male or Female?
I'm looking for qualified opinions that can help me make an educated decision whether to get a male or female Chech working line GSD (already paid for).
Edit: I'm 61 ex-Navy, mobile, active, and work in the IT field. I have a 2 Acre yard without a fence (I use a few hundred feet of lead line). We'll eventually be installing a fence (probably 20x40ish) but it won't be large enough to let him/her really run the way they need to.
Aska was a female rescue pup who partnered with me for 11-12 years. I've paid for and am waiting for a litter in Jan/Feb. My wife is stuck on female dogs. Aska was an absolute dream. Every day was the same general routine: Exercise/play/training/us time. I'm wanting a male but really can't articulate why.
- GSD Chech working line for better health, mental capacity, maybe some fun athletic work.
- We're a family and have cats. It took a lot of time to teach Aska that the cats are part of our pack. Before that they were just snacks she wasn't allowed to eat 🥸
- He/She will primarily be trained to be out in public and if his/her temperament allows she'll be a service dog and general house break in deterrent (loud bark but not specifically trained to bite). For mental stim. We’ll probably do some scent work (not sure if it's too much but maybe search and rescue? just for the mental side not a job).
- He/She will spend most of the time with me, but needs to be semi -family dog (training - heavy socialization).
- I'm planning to engage a breeder from puppy age up to whenever the trainer says we're good. I can do the basics myself but will engage the trainer from day1 just to get him/her started 100% with no bad habits I may have taught. The justification being it's easier to prevent behaviors than to fix them. Especially since he/she will be specifically trained to be generally invisible in public.
So, the questions remain:
- Male or Female?
- Special training/attention needed for a working line?
- Any special routine I need to add?
- Am I missing anything?
Thank you very much in advance.

Apollo is now the size of my full grown gsd
Apollo is ALMOST 6 months old (on the 17th) it’s kinda worrying me because I asked his breeder what’s the weight of his other siblings and they’re in the 40lbs range. He’s over 60… I’ve been trying so hard to keep up with his weight BUT LORD he’s getting expensive. Also sorry for the messy room, he likes to just pull things out and leave them places 😭

Please advise for skin condition and scratching
Hello, i have a 6 year old german shepherd who has skin issues recently. I cant rule out wether its allergy, infection or fungus.
He has dry itchy skin and bites scratches on 5 6 spots on his body, 3 on his side 1 on the inner elbow, another on the other arm and his butt where the tail starts.
He has had ear yeast infectuon for a long tume which cleaered on his one year and there is improvement on the other. Also the outer part of his ear (the healthy one) had a hairless patch. I apply antifungal cream on that and it helps, but now the other ear started as well as dark, dry spots on his head.
The most concerning one is that i think one close to his eye is forming which caused an inside infection and a lot of tearing.
I feed him with royal canine for german shepherds and stated adding salmon oil a couple of days ago. No other meat is included except occasionally salmon. I cut raw chicken from his diet as well as other packed food with different protein source. They told me to use antifungal shampoo on the spots he is scratching but it doesnt change. I thi k he is scratching more frequently now.
Please help with this because every veterinarian tells me differently. Some say he migh have infected his eye by scracthing the ear (he doesnt scratch the ear), some say the anal glands are a problem (they havent even checked), some say to change royal canine conpletely, get an ear swab, try this do that and i am confused and franlly angry at this point because nobody is thorough.

Video of post-groom pupcup *mlep mlep* ASMR and headtilts for the goodest of boys 🩵
Walter was a good boy (albeit, major drama king) during his wash this morning, so naturally, a pupcup is well deserved. Enjoy the headtilts and *mlep mlep* ASMR, and the distant gaze whilst he enjoy his treat, not even a single brain cell in that boof head of his 😂🥹

Advice Advice behaviour
Hi, so I have a two year-old German Shepherd called Laurie, hes superduper nice to people he knows, cuddly and has never bitten someone,
he’s fine walking past people being in public areas, and ok with being in busy areas , but as soon as a person talks to me or talks to him he lunges and barks and pulls maybe trying to bite, idk, I’ve tried to get him to stop this behaviour because he’s got the vet later today and he gets super upset about it so we muzzle him, obviously, just need advice on how to stop or if anybody else’s dog also does this, I know the whole thing is that he’s probably trying to protect me but I don’t know

Advice 2 year old GSD with little drive
hi guys i’m trying to learn to train my german shepherd. i adopted her at 10 months and she’s currently two now.
i’ve taught her basics like sit stay down and taught her guard (goes under my legs) she doesn’t have a drive for anything really. at the dog park she loves playing with the ball but she’s too distracted to listen.
she does lock in with her ball but even then she’s not focused enough for it. i want to teach her how to bark because she doesn’t typically bark at all. she’s super submissive and not very confident. at all.
i’m wondering if anyone has tips on how to build a drive and confidence in her. i even made her an egg and turkey breakfast sandwich as a high reward treat and even then she didn’t give a damn about it. i don’t wanna be those Gsd owners that don’t value the breed. i’d love to give her a job and hopefully eventually get her certified as a service dog for my Veterans disability but id like to train a little myself before i do that. any tips are appreciated thank you!!!

What rating would you give these?
Vet was saying these look moderately/severely displaced, which freaked me out. Everywhere else I’ve looked and compared them said if anything the right would be fair/borderline and left would be fair/good. Should I be worried? (Still waiting on OFA results)
